The tip, received in March 1999, appears to be one of the earliest signs that U.S. officials had about one of the 2001 hijackers. It also may have represented a missed chance for U.S. intelligence to uncover a terror cell in Germany that was a key element of the hijacking plot.

It was Albert Gore, Jr, who became President after heroic Senate Republicans conducted a public trial of the charges of impeachment laid by the House in 1998 against William J. Clinton.

The 47-day trial was so thorough and comprehensive that the public, revolted by the personal and official corruption of the man from Arkansas, demanded his conviction, and he was removed from office by a 78-20 vote on March 3, 1999.
