February 18, 2004 -- California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger last night called for San Francisco to terminate its ongoing gay-marriage marathon.

"Californians spoke on the issue of same-sex marriage when they overwhelmingly approved California's law that defines marriage as being between a man and a woman. I support that law, and I encourage San Francisco officials to obey that law," the former actor said.

Fella, you're dilusional. I feel for you, but once again you fail to grasp what the other side would have done here. Bustamante would already have submitted legislation to make it legal for homosexuals to marry in California. Would that be better? True enough, I don't like everything Schwarzenegger is doing, but if you think Bustamante would have been better, you're smoking a rare blend my friend.

Yep. And that is the true state of affairs in our nation. Our choices continue to be dumb, dumber and dumberer...

If someone would have told me that from 1988 to today, just 16 short years later this nation would have melted down the way it has, I would have said it was impossible.

No illusions here, of course they would do that.

Would that be better?

Yes, because there would be a real opposition and a real alternative for the electorate come the next election.

True enough, I don't like everything Schwarzenegger is doing, but if you think Bustamante would have been better, you're smoking a rare blend my friend.

I would suggest you wait two elections and note what happens to conservatives in the California GOP before you pass that judgment. You clearly didn't learn from the Wilson administration and need a refresher course.

You and I agree on what we would like to see accomplished for this state and nation.  I believe we are in agreement that we are experiencing a serious decline in our civilization, at least that's the way I see it.  We disagree on a solution to the problem, in light of the choices we had available last October.

Let's go back five years and look at what the other side winning provided for us.  That should buttress your arguement against Schwarzenegger, since you do not approve of him being elected.  You believe that a democrat being elected again would have been superior to Schwarzenegger getting in.

Let's see... we would likely be another sixty to seventy billion in debt, we would see still more leftists (separatists and worse) installed into government.  We would see all manner of societal issues influenced by democrat values.  In short there would be not only a continuation of the last five years, with Bustamante it would have been substantially worse.  Bustamante is rabidly anti-gun rights.  He is a separatist.  He is an open racist.  I'm at a loss to see any upside whatsoever to him being elected.

Neither you or I am thrilled with Schwarzegger being our governor, but I fail to grasp how you can sit there and with a straight face state that it would be better to have continued the last five year's policies.

McClintock got something like 13% of the vote.  Even if he would have gotten elected, with his mannerisms and the democrats controling both state bodies, do you really think he'd have been able to carry out policies you and I would support?  I don't.

Am I glad Schwarzenegger got elected?  You bet I am.  Am I glad that it came down to that choice, frankly no.

Let me ask you this.  Are you planning on urging folks not to vote for Bush this fall?  IMO he's nearly as bad as Schwarzenegger.  If Kerry goes belly up and Hillary steps in, are you willing to urge folks to go with someone who cannot win until a true conservative comes along?  If so, I think you're sticking to your guns for all it will get you.  I don't see this as a winning policy.  This nation is in dire straights, almost to the no-return point.  Giving more liberals power at this time is essentially suicide.

I just emailed the following to the governator.

I urge you to put a stop to the blatant law breaking (gay marriages) that is ongoing in San Francisco by people sworn to uphold the law.

This is not a question of civil rights - but it is very much a question of respecting the law. Regardless of how one feels about gay marriage, they are breaking the law. Thus, they should face the same consequences as any other law breaker. Arrest them and then let the judicial system decide.

If they want to practice civil disobedience they should pay the cost. Dr. Martin Luther King and Ghandi, both spent time in the cooler for their convictions.

Simply ignoring it only encourages and emboldens future lawbreakers, frustrating the will of the people, leading to more bitterness, disrespect for the law and anarchy.

Please, forget the political calculations, do what you know must be done. (And if you must calculate - you would come out way ahead if you enforced the law. Imagine Reagan in your shoes, what do you think he would do?)

I urge other freepers to do the same. Maybe he needs to see which way the wind is blowing to develop some balls.

If it is going through the State Court system it wouldn't end up before the 9th...an appeal from the State to the Federal level would go to the U.S. Supreme Court.

Bill O'R says Arnie should go in and make arrests for disorderly conduct.

O'R can say this stuff on his show but he wouldn't last 5 minutes as a politician.

I'd love to see the Mayor of SF locked up for this, but in due time. Any heavy-handed knee-jerk reaction now could backfire and help these homosexual advocates promote their image as an oppressed minority.

We don't want to do anything that will gain them public sympathy.

Better to let them go on for now with this bizzare spectacle, which is turning the public off more and more, so when the hammer finally drops nobody will feel sorry for them.

I agree. I think it would be better if the governor just had the marriage certificate null and voided since the city decided to alter the states marriage licenses to partake on this "endeavour".
