[history]
February 18, 2004 -- California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger last night called for San Francisco to terminate its ongoing gay-marriage marathon.
"Californians spoke on the issue of same-sex marriage when they overwhelmingly approved California's law that defines marriage as being between a man and a woman. I support that law, and I encourage San Francisco officials to obey that law," the former actor said.

Clintons cabinet member Carol Browner is a homosexual and lives with a female San Fran. Calif area judge. Go figure

This is a State issue. What does the Ninth Circuit have to do with it?Nothing.

Arnold should use his power as govenor to shut the building
He has no such power. City Hall belongs to the city, not the state, and the emergency powers of the Governor do not extent to a dispute like this.
The only way to reverse this is the legal process which has already commenced. It will result in one of two things happening: either the marriages will nullified, or the California DOMA will be invalidated as violating the California or U.S. constitution. Since the plaintiffs have (properly, in my view) chosen state courts as the venue, the case is unlikely ever to reach the 9th Circuit. The State Court of Appeal and the California Supreme Court will decide all of the state and federal constitutional issues. If any federal constitutional issues are dispositive of the California Supreme Court's opinion, than they can be directly appealed to the U.S. Supreme Court. That's actually unlikely, too -- I suspect that the ruling will be confined to the California constitution, with respect to which the California Supreme Court is the highest court in the land.
The judges didn't really have a lot of choice regarding the preliminary injunction petition -- very hard to make a showing that irreparable harm will result to anyone as a result of people keeping illegal marriage licenses for a month or two longer before they're revoked. I think that the March 29th hearing date is quite abusive -- hopefully the Appeal Court will end up ordering a full hearing next week at the latest.

As predicted, in march The Trial Lawyers...brought to you by John Edwards himself. Good grief.

A small group of conservatives, one a lawyer, needs to take action.
First, a group of say five, needs to go in and demand a license for their "marriage".
Next, a guy needs to go in and demand a license to "marry" his dog.
Third, another conservative needs to enter and demand a license to "marry" his car.
Then the lawyer needs to file a twelve gazillion dollar suit against the city clerk and the mayor if the licenses are not granted, or hold a press conference with his clients if they are. If homosexuals have the right to redefine the thousands of years old institution of marriage, there is absolutely no reason why it should stop at "two" or at "persons".
The homosexuals pushing this need to be shown up for the lunatics that they are.

No, let me get this through you skull. You will be subjected to unlawful judicial activism until you, and your family, are de-homoized. All of this for a scant 2% of the population. Go figure.

Our tax dollars are being raped by those who need special treatment. I am living in a lunatic fringe universe where everyday I am challenged to help keep my family spiritually clean. PC does not allow a return to the time where loosers were pointed out as such. I do not shove my beliefs down anyones throat and do not understant what right others have to try to push thier agenda on the vast majority of Americans.

You better stop being so brutal with the truth! Some, here just can't bare to hear it and live with their pyric victory by way of Recall opportunism!!! (grinning Wasp)
Salting the party with "Log Cabin" Repellicans... Very good! I was thinking of going to SFO city hall over the weekend and trying to convince all the applicants to form a "straight line!"

What do you want him to do? Stand in front of the door of SF city hall with his arms crossed and a line of police with batons behind him? Put the fire hoses on the homosexual line up and blast them off the sidewalk? They would relish such an action to further their claim that this is civil disobedience, a la MLK.

I seem to remember, a few decades ago, that a certain public school in Montgomery, AL had a situation similar to this.......

I haven't even read any posts yet.
So... how are the people who were jumping all over the Governor for NOT reponding (i.e. doing the AG's job) now going to tell us that this is an evil, terrible response?
Because you know they will.
(Unless they do their other thing -- pretend it didn't happen.)

Does anyone else see the similarity between the Mayor of SF and the 10 Commandment Judge Moore. They both seem to think their morals are above the law & both are wrong.
To: aardvark1
I'm suprised noone has placed the San Fran mayor under citizen's arrest. You have the penal code numbers. The cops have to do something about it once the citizen's arrest has been made.
