A senior at Syracuse University is the subject of a discrimination investigation after spewing a racist and homophobic rant that was caught on camera. The young woman shown spewing hateful remarks in the video shared to Instagram has been identified as Hanna Strong, a midfield player on the women’s soccer team. Coach Phil Wheddon has suspended the Monson, Mass., native from the team in light of the allegations. The undated video shows Strong shouting at a black male student who is walking away from their confrontation with his hands up.

A group of senior clerics, including the Bishop of Salisbury, the Dean of Southwark and four retired bishops, wrote in a letter to The Times today that religious denominations should be allowed to choose whether to register civil partnerships on their premises. "Straight couples have the choice between civil marriage and religious marriage. Gay couples are denied a similar choice. To deny people of faith the opportunity of registering the most important promise of their lives in their willing church or synagogue, according to its liturgy, is plainly discriminatory," they wrote. The Lords amendment to the Equality Bill is likely...

The weapons included mayonnaise, ketchup and salsa –– but also pepper spray, a glass jar and fists. A difference of opinion over gay marriage sparked the incident, and emotions escalated quickly. Punches were thrown. A small group of men visiting Rhode Island this week urging people to support traditional marriage called the police. Offended by the men’s message, four young women now face charges of assault or battery and disorderly conduct. The youngest, 17, also faces a more serious charge — felony assault with a dangerous substance.... ...The American Society for the Defense of Tradition, Family and Property –– traveled...

How do sons of lesbians and single mothers develop their moral character without a father in their lives? That is the question that Drexler (psychology, Weill Medical Coll. of Cornell Univ.) tackles here, and her answer is based on extensive research: these sons develop into sensitive, caring, and communicative human beings rarely prone to aggression who are no less “all boy” than sons of traditional families. Maverick mothers, as Drexler illustrates, seek out male role models, “collect” friends to form an extended family around their sons, and often go outside their comfort zone to offer a variety of activities and...

HELENA, Ark. (AP) -- Republican Jim Holt brushes past the "other" issues to get to the central focus of his campaign to unseat Democratic incumbent Blanche Lincoln in the U.S. Senate race. "Every person in America has come together on this issue of same-sex marriage," the freshman state senator from Springdale declared during a recent campaign thrust to cultivate support in Lincoln's soil-rich but cash-poor home base in the eastern Arkansas Delta. "We have the issue. That is, we must defend our traditional values," Holt told supporters, hammering Lincoln's opposition to a proposed federal constitutional amendment to define marriage as...
