Brinkley Details Kerry's Meetings with 'Hanoi Jane' (Hanoi John and Jane are both liars!)

Presidential historian Douglas Brinkley revealed Sunday that Democratic presidential front-runner John Kerry personally met with "Hanoi Jane" Fonda at least twice during the days when the two played leading roles in the group Vietnam Veterans Against the War, including a never before detailed 1971 meeting in Detroit.
"The Jane Fonda incidents occurred in two places; one on a march from Morristown to Valley Forge when they shared a platform at Valley Forge," Brinkley told WABC Radio's Steve Malzberg.
"Then he met her in the more troubling Detroit Howard Johnson's Comfort Center [event], where there was this thing called the Winter Soldier Investigation."
It had been known that Fonda and Kerry had both helped organize the Winter Soldier protest at a time when he served as the VVAW's National Coordinator and she held the title Honorary National Coordinator.
But Brinkley, who wrote the definitive chronicle of Kerry's war years, "Tour of Duty," is the first authoritative source to suggest that Kerry and Fonda had a face-to-face meeting while organizing the event.
Brinkley's account of Kerry's contacts with Fonda suggests they had a much more extensive relationship than either of them are now willing to admit.
The activist and the top Democrat both offered accounts last week that minimized their contact during the 1970s, with Fonda describing efforts to link her to Kerry as part of a "big lie" campaign to discredit the presidential front-runner.
Of the Valley Forge protest, Fonda told CNN, "I don't know if we even shook hands."
For his part Kerry said through a spokeswoman, "John Kerry and Jane Fonda were just acquaintances."
During Winter Soldier Fonda and Kerry solicited testimony from alleged combat veterans detailing U.S. atrocities, though many of the accounts were later completely discredited.
The Kerry campaign has refused to return multiple phone calls from NewsMax requesting details of the Senator's interaction with Fonda during the Feb. 1971 Winter Soldier event.
On a related subject, Brinkley said that Kerry's Vietnam war wounds, for which he received three Purple Hearts, were not particularly serious.
Asked about the severity of Kerry's injuries, Brinkley told Malzberg, "They were minor wounds."

But the republicans must develop this properly. They are letting every talking head discuss the entire issue as being a "photograph" of Kerry sitting several rows behind Fonda. Do I really have to tell these guys that the side that defines the issue - wins?

So why are the veterans lining up to support him?Sheer ignorance. This letter appeared in my local paper today:
Kerry Truly Cares For Our Veterans
Editor, News-Register:
As another election year has come upon me, I find myself troubled on which Democratic candidate I will be voting for. However upon reading a recent letter to the editor in your paper the choice may be becoming clearer. I was astounded when I read the recent article comparing John Kerry to Jane Fonda. The last time I checked, Jane Fonda went to Vietnam to befriend the enemy and protest the war. John Kerry went to Vietnam to kill the enemy and fight for his country, nearly dying for it. Oh yes, he also became a hero saving some of his fellow soldiers in the process.
My father fought in Vietnam and rarely talks about it. Some memories are better left in our dark places. But sometimes you need men like Mr. Kerry who, by the way actually gives a damn about our veterans, to stand up and speak his convictions. I served in the U.S. Air Force for six years and was very proud to wear the uniform. I wholeheartedly support the troops in Iraq and elsewhere overseas. I salute and thank them for their sacrifice to this country and hope they come home very soon.
But as the days go past and more young men and women die on a daily basis, I find myself wondering what we are doing nation-building in a region who clearly hates us. I think Mr. Kerry has a valid point in wanting us to "share the burden." With our budget deficit soaring out of sight and with no clear exit strategy for leaving Iraq I fear the worst: more troops dead and a blank check for the war. I don't know just yet who I will be choosing to oppose Mr. Bush in November but I plan on taking a long hard look at John Kerry for president of the United States. By the way, you might want to ask yourself what our current president was doing during the Vietnam war while John Kerry was in actual harm's way during the war. Just something to think about.

"Anybody got the details"
Well not now, but I might soon.
I just finished filling out form SF 180 requesting ALL of Lt. Kerry's records for the period of 1966-1970 under the FOIA. It's going in the mail tomorrow :-)

Will somebody explain to me again what is relevant about what anyone did in the 1970s with regard to a presidential campaign 30 years later?
G.W. Bush has a record of six years as governor and three years as President. Kerry has a record of more than a decade in the U.S. Senate. Does anyone care to debate THOSE?
They are not running for General. They are running for a political office and both have an established history in politics which OUGHT to be the focus of the campaign.
It proves how shallow and baseless both camps are when they have to resort to things that happened 30 years ago when both were young and foolish.
Geez Louise! Usually I'm not fed up with a political campaign until summer. It's not even March and I'm already sick and tired of this campaign. Can somebody just fast-forward my life to next December - PLEASE??

According to what I have found, this "march" took place September 4-7, 1970. If there are any Freepers in the Valley Forge area with access to microfilm of the local papers, you might see if you can find any interesting photos.
I'll be checking what I can in Morristown.

Here's the letter I use:
"Just something about John Kerry that's fairly well-known but hasn't been getting much play in the "mainstream" media:
Senator and ketchup millionaire John Kerry's political m.o. has been to attack his opponents as un-American
and unpatriotic while portraying himself as some kind of war hero. Just this year, he's pulled this with Dean,
Edwards, tried it with Clark, and now he's trying it with the president.
What Kerry should be concentrating on and telling us is where he stands on the real issues and what his plans
would be if elected. But he's got nothing.
So now it's time for Senator Kerry to come clean and tell us:
- Why he voted for the war and then withheld his support for the troops in the appropriations bill.
- If he pulled strings to swing getting an early discharge from the military.
- Why he actively demonstrated against the government while still a military officer.
- Just whose medals did he throw away and why he now presents himself as a hero proudly displaying
those medals in his office; what does he think the reaction of our veterans would be if he pulled a stunt like
that today?
- Why he wrote, in "The New Soldier", that the average American in Vietnam was guilty of war crimes
and why does he mock WWII vets on the book's cover.
- If he actually witnessed these war crimes taking place, why didn't he report them to his superiors instead
of waiting a year and then making a spectacle of himself in front of congress and the world press.
At the very least, Kerry owes his fellow veterans an apology for his part in the "anti-war" (meaning anti-American) protests in the early 70s. It also wouldn't hurt for Kerry to apologize to the president for questioning his military
service.
So, c'mon, Mr. Kerry: step up to the plate and show us what you have!
But, somehow, I don't believe that Kerry is man enough to answer the challenge.
John Kerry may well have shown physical courage in combat some 35 years ago but has been nothing but a
shameless opportunist ever since."
Constructive criticism is, by all means, welcome.

All I see are a few guys behind him on stage.
