Kerry's Anti-War Record Discussed at White House Briefing
2/10/2004 | Jeff Gannon

Posted on 02/10/2004 2:56:29 PM PST by Jeff Gannon

This was the exchange at today's White House press briefing, much of which focused on George W. Bush's service records with the National Guard.

JEFF GANNON (Talon News): Since there have been so many questions about what the President was doing over 30 years ago, what is it that he did after his honorable discharge from the National Guard?

Did he make speeches alongside Jane Fonda, denouncing America's racist war in Vietnam?

Did he testify before Congress that American troops committed war crimes in Vietnam?

And did he throw somebody else's medals at the White House to protest a war America was still fighting?

What was he doing after he was honorably discharged?

MR. McCLELLAN: We've already commented on some of his views relating back to that period the other day. And, obviously, this was a time period also when he was going to get his MBA at Harvard. But the President was certainly proud to serve in the National Guard.

TERRY MORAN (ABC NEWS): And would the White House consider those actions by Senator Kerry, that Jeff mentions fair game in the political season?

MR. McCLELLAN: Terry, I think -- I know that that's a way to try to draw us into a Democratic primary that is ongoing.

Somebody should tell Lurch, The Frenchie, that when you come to a real fight you need to bring more than wine.

Jeff,

Great job. It must be quite frustrating. I've been making long distance calls all day to networks to log complaints against their White House Correspondents. It was an embarrassing display of not only bias but lack of professionalism.

He's coming for us. Might very well be the last gasp of the 60's radical left. Are we ready?

I hope you know how truly eloquent you are. You say all that is in my heart, only better. I always read your posts and I just wanted to express my gratitude for your unwavering support of a wonderful President. If America chooses to turn her back on President Bush, she will feel the loss for many, many years to come. It seems to me that the Democrats/media are overplaying their hand and they will only continue to do so. May the public see the truth of what is going on before it is too late.

Here, the WH spokesman was given the softest pitch he will ever receive and what does he do, he ducks. Our guys are friggin' cowards and wimps and if they don't learn how to fight they will be history. The other side cheats, lies and steals and our side won't even fight back.

No,no,no! We don't want to destroy Kerry before he gets the nomination.

We made that mistake with Dean.

Congrats to Jeff! You did an excellent job! KEEP IT UP and WE WILL PREVAIL!

I also want to point out what John Kerry is doing NOW to undermine President Bush's foreign policy. This is real Hillary-style chutzpah from Kerry:

ON FOREIGN ASSIGNMENT - KERRY

With it increasingly clear to his campaign that he will win the Democratic presidential nomination, Sen. John Kerry is planning at least two trips overseas, most likely in April, so as to allow those visits to be integrated into his campaign propaganda.

Kerry is putting out feelers to British Prime Minister Tony Blair, as well as French President Jacques Chirac, about holding meetings with him during a European trip. As well, the Kerry campaign is examining his schedule to allow for a trip to Israel, and perhaps several Arab nations.

"There hasn't been talk of Iraq, though as a U.S. Senator and veteran of combat, it would certainly be appropriate for him to venture into Iraq," says a Kerry campaign staffer. "We have received indications from a number of young men and women in Iraq that they very much want Senator Kerry to visit them. His leadership just shines through."

The trips are one of a number of steps the Kerry campaign is taking as it rolls through the primary season. Another is continued opposition research on the President. According to a staffer on the blue-ribbon 9/11 commission, several Kerry Senate staffers, as well as associates of the Kerry campaign have reached out to longtime Democrats working on the commission about the work the group is taking.

"We're hearing Kerry is trying to pull all kinds of strings to find any damaging material on the Bush administration pre-9/11," says a Republican working with the commission. "We've been warning about this from the beginning. We've got men and women working here that cannot contain their hatred for this administration. Frankly, we don't have that much damaging material, but if there's stuff here, you can bet the Kerry campaign will get it."

I thought this was a joke also till I read the comments. Way to GO!!!

Same here. This is great.

Especially after McAwful was spouting off about how he couldn't wait to see Kerry with his "chest full of medals" go up against Bush.

When the WHOLE truth gets out about Kerry, he won't get the veterans vote and he will will wish he hadn't made his Vietnam service such a campaign issue.

Dean destroyed Dean with help from the media who couldn't ignore the implosion. I think a better strategy would be to encourage a longer dem primary season. We should be helping Dean now, if possible, and hurting Kerry so there is more incentive for them to trash each other. It also diverts their money defending themselves from each other. What we'd love is a wide open contest through the summer. Unfortunately, its already over and Kerry will get it.
