[history]
February 10, 2004 -- Saudi authorities have arrested a fighter pilot under suspicion of planning to crash a jet in Israel in a Sept. 11-style terror attack, it was reported yesterday.
The pilot had allegedly been recruited by al Qaeda to carry out the homicide mission against an undisclosed target, Israeli TV reported. Saudi investigators are rounding up other people who may have been involved in the plot, and the investigation is continuing, the report said.

We need to take the audio of that quote and run it under the video of the 2nd plane hitting the WTC. Or maybe put the audio on a loop and let it play continuously, while people watch the WTC being destroyed and human beings leap a thousand feet to their deaths.

Maybe filming the farewell video in front of the plane was a mistake?

Someone needs to send him multiple copies of the Freeper terror thread...the latest suggestion was that there are some 30 WMD devices deployed in US cities.

For what it's worth, the Saudis deny the story. Of course this is why Israel wanted the US to enforce their agreement with Saudi Arabia and not base aircraft near the border.

Official Source Denies Saudi Arabia Foiled an Air Suicide Attempt Against Israeli Target
www.spa.gov.sa/html/archive_e.asp?srcfile=614654&NDay=10/02/2004&wcatg=0
Riyadh, Feb. 10, SPA (Saudi Press Agency)-- An official source at the Ministry of Defense and Aviation has denied a report circulated by some media quarters while quoting the commander of the Israeli Air Force.
The report had claimed that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia had foiled an air suicide attempt planned to be carried out by a Saudi pilot against an Israeli target.
According to the report the pilot, who was planning to launch the suicide attack against Israel under directives of Al-Qaeda Organization, had been arrested.
'The report is entirely fabricated and false', the official source added.

Twenty years ago, all fighter pilots in Saudi Arabia were "extra princes", members of the Saudi royal family and the elites. I don't know if this is still the case or not. But if it is, for one of these privlidged people to go along with a suicide pact would be extraordinary. The few Freepers (not me) who have served with them describe the Saudis as very competent, well equipped too.

Hmmm...interesting. The lower half of the article, apparently unrelated to the title, makes it appear as though the Saudi pilot was going to attack becuase of the fence, not because of all the Irlamist rhetoric about how evil all the JOOOOOZ are.
Is the arrest real, a ploy by the Saudis to inferfere in the internal workings of a sovereign nation - which they don't generally recognize - or is the arrest and plot REAL, but the fence angle going to be spun into a Pali propaganda coup against Israel's right to protect itself?
They'll say it couldn't work because it can't protect against planes. I ALWAYS said it wouldn't work, but it's Israel's right to build it. It's the right to build it which is the distinction here.

The terror angle will be ignored in the media. The plot will be blamed on Israel's effort to build a security fence against homocide bombers.

It was sort of a mystifying article. But I think the fence thing may have been reportorial spin.
The Saudis are/are not our friends. They're our friends when they think that AQ is targeting them, since AQ hates the Saudi ruling family, or at least parts of it, almost as much as they hate us and Israel. I suspect this was one of the moments when they found out that AQ was targeting them, so they were our friends at that particular moment.

Hmmm, even more interesting. Of course, early denials of true events are frequent in the Saudi government, making all news coming from there HIGHLY confusing. Guess we'll wait a bit and see what the next Saudi official says.

"But I think the fence thing may have been reportorial spin."So do I and we'll know in a few days if THIS is the story that starts the latest anti-fence, propaganda blitz. Agreed, the Saudis are not our friends. What the royals do, they do for themselves. All alliances are extremely...shall we say fluid things in the Arab world. Still, diplomacy is a different animal than friendship and as long as we KNOW just how fluid Arab alliances are the safer we'll be. Unless we kill them all, we still have to deal with them.
