I don't know what to say. No Canadians are going to come to Rochester except for a few who have something to do here anyways. I can't wait to ride my bike to Toronto every weekend, that's for sure. Oh well...

They should rename it "John K. Ferry" and the press will promote it for them.

Just one more government boondoggle on top of the $60 million bus station they want to build.

Are these Canadians in for a surprise when they hit Rochester. I was born there at St. Mary's Hospital about 60 years ago. It WAS a great place to grow up. Now, I roll my windows up to deflect any bullets and pray I get out of the city safely. Rochester is a cruddy, dangerous city. (51 murders last year).
People will go to Niagara Falls or the Vineyard areas by the Canadian Bridge routes at Buffalo or Syracuse. No need for the Rochester Ferry.
Why not improve the beaches (including Durand) for ROCHESTERIANS instead of dumping ferry money down the drain. Check the old photos of Durand at Rochester History Photos. You'll be stunned at what it was and what it is.

Visit Exotic ROCHESTER!
The Playground of Lake Erie! The above image is not to be taken as an actual representation of Rochester.
The body of water depicted is not necessarily Lake Erie. Your experience may vary.

I went to the U of R and still have some friends there though I haven't been there for about 25 years. I thought that back in the late 70's they had a largre urban renewal project going on? The kind of thing where you bought an old building for a song but promised to spend money to fix up.

I don't know what to say. That is pretty thin gruel to hang eco development upon.
What happenned to Xerox [tm], and KODAK???
Remember those QUAINT little letters Xerox used to send out to people who turned Xerox into a generic "xeroxing", asking them to stop misusing their Trademark???
Today they are grateful for the free advertising!!

Rochester is on Lake Ontario anyway...Dang. I knew that didn't seem right. Cleveland, Rochester, I get 'em confused all the time. :-p
OK, take two in my pro-bono work for the Rochester Chamber of Commerce:

"When they (Canadians) hit Rochester"... pardon me but IMO it's "if" and not "when" as I do not predict any Canadians coming over on the ferry, at least not to see Rochester.
Are you in the region, and would you like to be added to the ping list?
best regards from the city of Rochester.

State urged to promote ferryExcuse me. I thought this story was about a gay affirmative action case.

I'm in Monroe County. Rochester is my hometown and I have to go there a couple times a month for business. I'm VERY familiar with the city. My parents lived in Rochester until a few years ago.
Would appreciate the Upstate ping. Thanks

Yeah, I've live in the Rochester area and would appreciate it if you would add me to your ping lists. Thanks!

I agree...It's an "If"...AT BEST. Of course, no one ever mentions maintenance of the harbor. I remember when they lost their Port Authority status, one of the explanations was the cost of dredging out the Channel every year. Wonder what the maintenance costs are....ya know...all those hidden things....just like a house, Custom House & Employees etc..

I'm hoping to ride this thing once before the bankruptcy filing (which will be preceded by the taxpayer bail-out).
I'm sure Canadians can't wait to come over and spend their hard earned money (less 40% exchange rate) to visit Nick Tahou's, Empty Kodak buildings, Midtown Plaza, and our shiny new bus station.
Abbotts however will make a killing, as they should.

State Urged To Promote FerryI thought Massachusetts already did that.
Oh, oops, that's ferry, not fairy.

Would've been very convenient when I was attending law school upstate and visiting family in Toronto. Of course, then I couldn't have stopped in Casino Niagara...
