Just heard on WCBS newsradio NY that CNN reports Carlie Brucia found dead in Sarasota.

He was a drug addict, doing drug addict behavior. How could anyone have known that he would kill a little girl? Again, his one past assault case was on a grown woman. His neighbor was on TV last night and said this shocked him. The neighbor commented that this guy would have him watch out for his wife and kids when he was away. The neighbor also said that his granddaughter used to go over and play with this guy's daughters and he never felt uncomfortable about him.

Aaaah, poor thing. He was such a good guy and great with the kids. He just had one or two bumps in the road and is trying to improve his life. Lets all give him another change. BULL!!! WTH, get out from under that cabbage leaf. He's had chance after chance after chance and each time a defense attorney and judge has let him off with nothing more than a slap on the wrist. What is it about 17 freaking arrests and a previous attempted kidnapping do you not understand? That woman was a young 20 year old, not much older than Carlie, but noooo, you seem to be on his side in that too. His current pobation officer reported to the judge Dec. 30 that the sicko had broken probation, failed drug tests, etc. but the judge was willing to over look his actions once again. If the judge had done his duty to protect society, Carlie would be sitting in school with her friends right now. Hopefully you do not have children.

There's no excuse for failing to issue an Amber alert, waiting until the parents can be ruled out as suspects. The only time it should cause delay is when it is HIGHLY LIKELY that a parent has abducted a child (as in a custody dispute, or when abduction has been confessed or previously threatened)

The parents aren't going anywhere, for one. For two, issuing an Amber Alert in a case like Carlie's males sense. She was known to be walking home alone, had been spotted walking alone by a neighbor, where her dad went to get her and didn't find her....

Assume he was lying and that he had killed his stepdaughter.
An Amber Alert could still have gotten info and tips leading to more evidence or witnesses or her recovery.

I don't think anyone thought for a moment that she had run away, FWIW.

IN a case like this, tape or no tape, issue the Amber Alert. The man who witnessed a young woman in a red top struggling with, and trying to run away from, a man might have been reported more swiftly if her decription and an AMber Alert had been issued.

There is a recent murder where a 61yo art gallery owner was stabbed and mutilated. Smith has an affinity for knives. Would really be something if they tie him to the art gallery crime scene.

He was acquitted by a JURY. A judge is ABSOLUTELY powerless to over-ride an acquittal by a JURY. The JURORS should be the ones who don't sleep too well tonight.

Lawyer was probably Court-appointed. He or she was doing his or her Constitutional duty in representing the piece of crap.

Now, I don't know the facts, other than what was reported in the Press -- which is always suspect -- but on its face this JURY decided to believe his story over hers.
