Statement regarding the Super Bowl halftime show
www.superbowl.com ^ | February 1, 2004 | NFL

Statement by NFL Executive Vice President Joe Browne regarding the Super Bowl halftime show:

"We were extremely disappointed by elements of the MTV-produced Halftime show. They were totally inconsistent with assurances our office was given about the show. It's unlikely that MTV will produce another Super Bowl halftime."

You missed an "interesting" evening. Plenty of flaming about the Super Bowl, etc.

Well, O'Reilly has got a story for his show that will go with his favorite theme for the last 6 months. Disgusting!

Let me apologize for the pressing questions that may have offended you. It was not my intention as you seemed to converse with an openness about you and your wife's sexuality. Had I known you would have found it offensive, I wouldnt have said it. But I guess we both know how it feels to be utterly disgusted and offended this evening?

Her National Anthem was great...anyone else agree?

Aside from the 45 minutes it took to sing, it was fine.

Perhaps he should try DU.

You think? Well, let's look at this PC. You and I have been here similar lengths of time.

We all have different opinions about things.

Apparently mine is different from yours on this. But I would wager that, over time, my opinions are more similar to yours than not. I am quite certain I have added positive ideas to this forum. Not just for the forum's sake but just because some of my thoughts have been worth considering- period.

Is this to say that I am always right? No. I know I am not. But nobody is.

If JimRob agrees with you- fine. I'll go. Whatever. This is tonight. I guess it seems really important- tonight. But there is next week. Next month. Next year. We're not all going to agree tonight- next week etc. The point is- do we share more over the long term than not?

Hey, if not... Fair enough.

Well since I was at a friends house with about 30 others it's pretty hard to walk over and switch someone's else's T.V off...

The half time show sucked even before the incident with Janet, MTV produces no talent shows and they should not be on Professional Sporting Events.

At least she looked beautiful...meaning she was fully dressed, and she is gorgeous. I think she did a great job.

I watched the whole game, except the half time. I started reading after I saw the flag as clothing and muted it. Glad now that I did.

You are being a hypocrite and then threatening me because of your hypocrisy

You insulted my wife and I asked you not to reply to me anymore. A gentleman would have accepted that. You did not.

I ask you once again. Please do NOT reply to me again. Not even if my life depends upon it. There is nothing you have to say that I would care to hear. If you don't reply to me anymore, I won't reply to you.

That's fair. Please...

They did say "advocacy ads," but the comments were always clarified with "because of its controversial nature and content."

I guess I over-paraphrased that one.

Thanks, I have written the NFL, CBS, AOL Time Warner and now the FCC voicing my strong objection to what took place, it was disgraceful!

If enough of us contact them demanding the heads of those involved, rest assured, ...heads will roll and to quote Donald the TRUMP, some top execs are going to hear:

"Your FIRED"

The viewing public is "Mad as He** and we are not going to just sit back and take it anymore"

you don't have the right to subject others to your personal moral standards who are offended by such.

Well, this is fair enough. I understand that Americans are very prudish. But, I suppose where we differ is, I don't view television as a right. If you think television is bad- get rid of it. I did- a long time ago. I don't view it as a natural right to watch the Super Bowl (to start with). There's a lot of aesthetic arguments that devolve from there. The whole cheerleader thing for example. It's gratuitous sexuality. And if this is bad- ok. But the status quo seems to be that gratuitous violence is ok and the gratuitous flesh is not. This just seems preposterous to me.

One last question for you:

Let's say you and your family are in a public place and someone rips your child's shirt open, exposing his breast. How about if someone ripped your wife's shirt open, exposing her breast. Which would offend you most? And why?

(I am personalizing this question because you've clearly stated that viewing nudity in others is ok with you. I am NOT trying to offend. This is a serious question.)
