Statement regarding the Super Bowl halftime show

Statement by NFL Executive Vice President Joe Browne regarding the Super Bowl halftime show:

"We were extremely disappointed by elements of the MTV-produced Halftime show. They were totally inconsistent with assurances our office was given about the show. It's unlikely that MTV will produce another Super Bowl halftime."

The halftime entertainment is supposed to be music, not a strip show.

LOL. And this concerning an event that features scantily clad women called cheerleaders? Why are they there? What purpose do half-dressed cheerleaders serve if not to titillate?

Speaking of boobs...I see Gray Davis in a picture next to this one.

Was Gray selling hot dogs or programs at the Super Bowl? I missed it. ;-\

Not only did she perform beautifully, but looked incredible, too.

There is serious overreaction on this thread - it is not about sanctimony - it is about making a bigger deal about this than it warrants, given how much is already shown on TV.

Tell me how many other times we've seen a naked breast on network TV on a family show (I'm not talking about NYPD Blue here). CBS crossed a line here tonight, and that's why we're up in arms.

I'll tell you the real problem with the halftime show: it sucked.

But they've always sucked. That isn't news. That's why they have to stage strip-a-thons and pretend it wasn't planned.

My all-time favorite Super Bowl halftime moment was when Stevie Wonder tried to dance on a row of steps a few years ago. You just knew the 30,000 lawyers in attendance all reacted like they were at a Viagra convention. It's a Wonder he didn't fall over.

You may be too young to understand this,

How young do you think I am? Seriously.

I'm almost 40.

I don't think breasts are evil. It's pretty simple. I found Kid Rock's display with flag to be worse and the lesbian kiss between Madonna and Spears to be much worse.

Normally, I only watch the Superbowl for the funny ads, but this year (and last) the games were pretty good - usually one side really blows out the other. I was extremly dissappointed with the 1/2 time show (I've yet to see one that was worth watching). However, I enjoyed the ads tonight and the fact that I won some money doesn't hurt at all.

I suppose it would have been out of the question to have Norah Jones or Diana Krall or Dianne Reeves or someone who can actually carry a tune and enunciate her words as the halftime act.

But then they couldn't have had rap and hip hop in the show.

>> I must have gone out for a beer...

I'm not a football fan anyway, I was watching with the wife but not paying much attention, plus I was in & out of my office to check in here at FR. But at halftime, I saw the lineup as they were coming out, the wife said something about Kid Rock (who I wouldn't know if he jumped up and bit me) boinking with Pamela Anderson. I commented that they'll probably catch their respective STDs from one another, then asked if this is the sort of entertainment people who watch the Super Bowl really want to see. She said yes, most people are younger than we are, and that's what they like.

J.J. was "entertaining" 20 years ago when she came in on the coattails of her infamous sibling (brother, sister, not sure anymore) and is past her prime, as the photo on the Drudge site shows (I used to think of her as a fairly nice looking chick, but that notion has been forever dashed).

Well before K.R. started the crotch grabbing, I was outa there, went to the supermarket and grabbed some things for dinner, and got back late enough to have missed the whole sordid affair. Probably wouldn't have been so fortunate if I had just gone to grab a beer, but I missed most of the cacophony that passes for music these days, and would have been spared the sagging boob shot if I hadn't been so durn tempted by someone upthread to go check it out, and having had those memories of the J.J. of nearly a generation ago... Somebody shoulda told her, the time for her to pull off stunts like that has passed.

I was rooting for Carolina, and thought Indy got completely shafted by the ref's non-calls, but in this game, if anything, the Patriots got it harder from the refs. All week long the NFL had been saying that they didn't want the refs determining the outcome, sending all kinds of signals that they would once again look the other way when it came to interference and holding. But once the game started, they were calling it much tighter than they had been, and the Pats got several of those penalties.

Who buys NFL related items (clothing, video games, etc)? One that listens to Norah Jones or the one that listens to P Diddy?

Also who wants to listen to a relaxing jazzy song when you want to get pumped up for the game?
