Having completed our tax returns tonight, all I can say is, YEEEHHHHAAAAWWWW.

Those child tax CREDITS made me feel like GWB was giving me a personal bear hug.

That's what is different about us, though, Huck; I want EVERYBODY to get their taxes rolled back, not just me and my husband.

And I want world peace and universal happiness, but in the meanwhile, with the gubmint being what it is, I'm concerned mostly with protecting my own. I supported the Bush tax cuts that applied to me. If when the cuts expire, mine are extended but someone else's are not, it's not going to be a deal breaker for me. You know? And that's probably what will happen. I think I am up to like the 31% range or whatever it is now. The 36% is gonna take the hit, I think. Won't affect my paycheck. Wait until the boomers start to retire. Let's see how many people are worried about MY taxes then.

In the 90s the top rate was what? 4 points higher? We had plenty of business creation and job creation then too. If the top rate went back up, as it likely will, businesses would still be created.

But get that number up high enough and you won't hear a complaint from me.

So it's just a case of whose ox is being gored? Explain to me why someone who makes $200K, or $300K, or whatever arbitrary amount you care to name, should be taxed at a higher rate.

Do they use more government services? No, on average people actually consume less government services as their income increases. It sounds to me like you buy into the whole "tax the rich" concept - "Rich" being anyone who earns a dollar more per year than you do.

This is someone else's post, but speaking of child credits, that's a redistribution of wealth from childless taxpayers to taxpayers with children. What gives? You don't support that do you?

It is amazing that opposing liberal Bush policies is equated to being somehow liberal on this forum

So it's just a case of whose ox is being gored?

It's definitely a HUGE factor. But I am sure that's just me, right? Everyone else puts their neighbor's concerns ahead of their own. I'm the only one being evil here I am sure.

It sounds to me like you buy into the whole "tax the rich" concept - "Rich" being anyone who earns a dollar more per year than you do.

No, I buy into the don't tax me concept.

I have to correct a little of this source. Kerry is even worse. I also posted some of his easiest to find lowlights on bills he cosponsored or sponsored. That's not counting his voting record.

Safety Devices on All New Guns
Actually Kerry wants to ban all so called unsafe guns. The Small Print is from 1997-1998 congress - Bill S2185

Background Checks on Gun Show Purchases

We have that now, but Kerry goes way beyond that by banning gun shows through red tape, through registering all vendors and banning private sales. (1999-2000 - S443)

Require Safety Course, License Before Gun Purchase

Somewhat favor for Kerry? Considering that he pushed for a $10 license fee for ammo dealers, putting ammo under the same rules as firearms, bans all 'armor piercing' ammo that isn't designed for what the Sec of Treasury calls "Sporting purposes", I have no doubt where he really stands.

Allow Lawsuits Against Gun Manufacturers Somewhat Favor

He;s fillibustering....

The Patriot Act Strongly Opposes

He voted for that freedom grab, and now he 'opposes it'??? BS. He had his stance to take a lead on it and he failed immensely as he is a failure of a senator.

The War in Iraq Somewhat Opposes

Didn't he vote for that as well?

Embargo on Cuba Somewhat Favor
Considering he backed PNTR for China, backed the Sandinistas, and also opposed any aid for Afghanastan when they were helping the Soviets, I have to doubt this too. He's likely just staying quiet about it so he doesn't make the Cubans mad like Klinton did.

U.S. Involvement in NAFTA Strongly Favor
And MFN for China too, and I'm making sure this gets out to the union membership since I doubt the union leaders will do so.

Mandatory Labor/Environment Standards in Trade Agreements Somewhat Favor
Bwahahahahha. His past record says otherwise. At least Bush is honest about the trade stances, even if I disagree with them.

Additional Tax Cuts for Businesses Strongly Opposes
Who Hoo! More jobs going overseas. Thanks Johnny.

Also Back in 85-86, he backed increasing superfund by rasing excise taxes.(S Amendment 577)

He also pushed to raise tobacco taxes, and voted for Klinton's 1993 tax.

Tougher Fuel Efficiency Standards Strongly Favor
At the cost of more jobs. -------------

That said, John Kerry is so bad, if he wins, I'll be wishing for the days of Bill Klinton. He's IMO the worst of all the dems running.

Nothing like a little class-warfare to prove your conservative credentials.

It has nothing to do with class for one. I'll give you a non-income tax example. Let's say the gubmint decided that in order to fund the president's new 15 billion dollar marriage counseling proposal, they were going to put a new federal tax on cauliflower. I would not have a problem with that at all, because a)if they are going to pass this stupid ass program, it has to be paid for, and b) I don't like cauliflower. Now, if they proposed to tax pistachios instead, we'd have a problem. So you see, class has nothing to do with it. I am looking out for mine, whatever class I happen to be in. And I couldn't care less about "conservative" credentials, especially the way "conservatives" rationalize big government these days.

Then why not raise the top rate to 70% - Like it was before Reagan. After all, businesses and jobs were still created then, right? Hell, raise it to 100% and confiscate all income above some number you determine to be sufficiently affluent. Then take the proceeds of those tax increases, and give them to the poor, unemployed people at the bottom of the income ladder. You know, from each according to his ability, to each according to his need.

Have you ever heard of the Laffer Curve? It's been empirically demonstrated time and time again to be valid. The higher the tax rate, the slower the rate of business growth and job creation, and the smaller the marginal increase in tax revenue. At some point, increasing tax rates decreases tax revenue.

Ronald Reagan is definitely one of my heroes, but not because of his budget deficits. For the most part, I admire Reagan as a salesman.

You want taxes raised on one segment of the population simply because they can "afford" it. That is Marxist and has no basis in conservative philosophy. Everything beyond that is just more Marxist rationalization to bolster the original Marxist proposition.
