A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day....01-27-04....Political Pictionary, III
Billie

A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day
Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997.   Over 100,000 people have registered for posting privileges on Free Republic, and the forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.
A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day was introduced on June 24, 2002. It's only a small room in JimRob's house where we can get to know one another a little better; salute and support our military and our leaders; pray for those in need; and congratulate those deserving. We strive to keep our threads entertaining, fun, and pleasing to look at, and often have guest writers contribute an essay, or a profile of another FReeper.
On Mondays please visit us to see photos of A FEW OF FR'S VETERANS AND ACTIVE MILITARY
If you have a suggestion, or an idea, or if there's a FReeper you would like to see featured, please drop one of us a note in FR mail.
We're having fun and hope you are!

I'm not sure actually. I know he's on a couple here at FR -- just not sure about yours. Thanks for asking -- and feel free to add him to ANY prayer list -- we'll take all the prayer we can get to surround him with God's grace! :0)

Am I truly blessed, or what??!!

* ICE STORM REPORT*

Yesterday I posted why I was delayed in appearing on the thread, besieged as we were by an intense ice storm.
I still can't get over the hours of lightning strikes that accompanied it, complete with strong sounds and interrupting power!

It rained heavily all day and night, temperatures finally getting up to about 34 and then dropping lower again.
The next problem was cable television going off at 10:30 p.m.!!
That still was so this morning, and turning on the radio to a local station, heard the news that we had been spared a real horror - -

You might recall my sometimes describing where I live is just below a wide diagonal line from Augusta to Columbia as the normal flow of systems, missing my location.
Beginning just one mile north up the road from my house and going beyond, last night there came devastation equivalent to a tornado ripping through several counties north and northeast!

Callers compared it to what Hurricane Hugo did a few years ago.

With the accumulation of rainfall and ice, and then even heavier rainfall and lowerer tempertures in the evening on top of that, the storm intensified again and flattened thousands of acres of pines and other trees.
The highway up to Aiken and over to Augusta from here is impassable, trees dropped all over the road.
(There are many planted pine forests for cash crops, one caller saying he had just lost 70 acres of his pines in the matter of a few minutes.)

Callers to the radio station from these areas described the horror of the storm descending, trees snapping with "heavy gunfire sounds."

Augusta, Georgia across the Savannah River still has over 60,000 homes without power - towns just north of me will be off for 2-3 days, and power crews from Florida and other states are being rushed in to help with the aftermath.

Our cable television tower is located in one of those towns, and although it will be a priority for restoration, I might have to stay on Free Republic to get word on tonight's New Hampshire Primary results...

While this morning we had power, at 10:25 it went off, as did much of Barnwell. The problem was fixed a little over an hour later, though, and I'm hurrying to post this before - - who knows what next?!

Counting blessings indeed this day....

Hastening to post before another disaster, Billie, that while you create many, many outstanding threads, this one is just plain brilliant!
We can barely begin to perceive the hours of searching you had to do for just the right phrases and graphics, and can only appreciate the stunning results!

Perhaps Freezie should hold a "Why We Love Billie" Top Ten List Contest...

Naw....it would have to be the Top Thousand..:))

Is your brother on our Prayer list?

Yep! ;)

Below are names of some of our FReepers' loved ones who are serving our country. If you have someone you would like to add, please address a post to Billie; Mama_Bear; Dansangel; Dutchess; Aquamarine; and/or deadhead, and we will add their name to this list. As we pray for them, we pray also for all our nation’s leaders, and military personnel, and their families and friends. May God hold them close to His heart.

"Wow! Just one mile away? You really dodged a bullet! Thank God."

You know, Valerie, it also is so that not far below us in this county, there often are tornadoes that hit and miss this small town.

I like to think we are 'protected' by the fact in the 1920's, my minister grandfather had one of the churches here.
My cousin, Betsy, and I once had a great conversation about the effectiveness of prayers surrounding those we love, and conclude theirs for their children and grandchildren still affect us!

The church is one mile away from me in the center of town, just off The Circle in front of the County Courthouse.

Often while driving in the area, I have felt my grandparents' presence and enveloping prayers...

Emphasizes the importance of protecting all those we love with our own prayers, no matter where they are or how far down the Long Line...

Yup! Maggie, I do ask myself often: where does she get this stuff? 'Cause I do web searches too and I don't find things like this. She has secrets, Billie does. Perhaps a thousand of them.
