HAVANA (Reuters) - Robert Redford (news) showed his new film about Che Guevara, "The Motorcycle Diaries," to the widow and children of the legendary guerrilla fighter on Sunday.
"I came to present the film that I produced on Che Guevara and I am very happy to be in Cuba," Redford told Reuters before the private screening at Havana's Charles Chaplin cinema theater.
He watched the film with Guevara's widow Aleida, daughter Aleidita and son Camilo, as well as Ramiro Valdes, a top military commander in Cuba's communist government who fought with Guevara and Fidel Castro (news - web sites) in the Sierra Maestra mountains.
The film, directed by Brazilian (news - web sites) Walter Salles, is based on the diaries that Guevara wrote on a nine-month bike trip through South America in 1952 when he was an asthmatic 23-year-old medical student.
The trip opened his eyes to poverty in Latin American and he later joined Castro in Mexico where the Cuban leader was organizing a landing party to launch a guerrilla movement in Cuba that triumphed in 1959.
Guevara was executed by army troops after his capture in 1967 in the Bolivian jungle, where he had tried to start another revolution.
Redford flew to Cuba on Friday from the Sundance Film Festival (news - web sites), of which he is a backer and where "The Motorcycle Diaries" received a standing ovation at its debut a week ago.

The most telling comments have been emboldened by me; otherwise, the article stands unedited.

Redford to Oscar Biscet: I strongly believe that the right to dissent and free speech is more important than ever...but that it only applies to rich, white, Anglo-Saxon males like me.

Yo! Bob! Are you going to show the film to the political dissidents being held in Castro's prisons?
To: All
We need to depict his name correctly Robert REDford.

Damn, I hate to burn my copy of Jeramiah Johnson, but I may have to. Funny how far out of sinc REDford is with that charactor.
Oh well, the book, Crow Killer was better that the movie anyway.

There was an honest, for a change, biography, of this "Saint" of the Progressive Religion published a year or two ago. If anyone remembers the title and author, please let us know.

Guevara is best known for leading peasants into their Cuban anti-Batisto revolt that exacerbated their poverty.
More Cubans are hungry today than prior to their Revolution, and a 5 pound bag of beans is about the most that even the good looking hookers can hope to earn per trick...at least for the ones who aren't permitted to sell themselves to European and Canadian tourists.
In the meantime, the ghosts of those murdered and slaughtered by Castro and his willing Leftist minions have yet to see Justice...a fact that is far too inconvenient for the trendy Intellectual Left of the civilized world to dare mention in public.

I would have thought he would have watched the film with Juan Valdes who would at least have given him a fresh cup of Joe...

Redford made a film on Che Guevara? What a dope. How is it possible that the silly glamorization of Che goes on and on?
Hitler's messiah complex was no different than Che's. That's the real lesson of the 200 million dead at the hands of the Messiahs of the 20th century
