Rush's PERFECT comments Re: Donovan McNabb
me

Posted on 01/19/2004 9:26:26 AM PST by Pukin Dog

For those who missed it, Limbaugh performed the most perfect comments on Donovan McNabb this morning by not even mentioning his name.

Instead he contrasted the way that Payton Manning came out and took responsibility for his performance against the way that the media instantly set out to blame the Eagles' wide recievers for what happened to them.

It was the best revenge, because by not mentioning McNabb, no one in the media can say that Rush attacked McNabb, but to all us football fans, what Rush DIDNT say, was LOUD AND CLEAR. Thanks Rush!

The only way to end the McNabb hype and fraud is to let it leak out to the press that he is a conservative, Republican Bush-backer...

let's not forget that it was rush who picked this fight, not donovan. oh right, we're not FORGETTING, just IGNORING...

Yeah, I 've been listening to sports talk radio 610 last night and today and McNabb is getting a pass. The wide receivers stunk, but so did McNabb. Three points. Three stinking points. It was a disgrace.

Take it up with the NFL rules committee, according to the rules currently in place, McNabb was not down.

Actually it's Rush's fault Philly lost. His racist comments put so much pressure on Mcnabb that there was no way he could live up to the pressure.

Actually one of the announcers yesterday (I'm pretty sure the odious Chris Collinsworth) posited that McNabb had "so much" to overcome this season...with those unfortunate remarks on ESPN and all...

So the blame has already been assigned.

So show me the rules. It was a legal hit on a quarterback who is known to be able to scramble to make plays. Should the defender have waited until McNabb rolled over and was in the process of getting up to satisfy you or would you have rather had him wait until he was completely upright and on the move again?

It would seem to me that there are no such rules when I see a defensive lineman come screaming around the blind side of a quarterback and nail him from behind so hard that he drops the ball and has to be helped off the field.

I was only half watching and what stood out were the drops, interceptions, and the Eagles inability to tackle. Seems to fit that decription.

Right you are...the reality is there was enough blame to go around for why the Eagles lost. However, the mainstream sports media obviously decided that no blame should be placed on McNabb even though he was just as responsible as anyone else.

Limbaugh was right about the media...and after this game the media proved it.

Now, we'll probably see McNabb throw four TD passes in the Pro Bowl since the defense can only rush four men...

Except of course that is the accurate way to place the blame. Manning never got in a rhythm, the Eagles receivers constantly dropped balls they got both hands on and allowed cornerbacks to make unopposed plays on the ball.

Absolutely not. A QB who slides FEET FIRST is deemed protected. But a QB who slides any other way---i.e., diving, rolling---is NOT protected. Please read the rules before you post. A QB who has not been down by contact---as the refs said they thought was the case---is free to get up and run or pass, period.

Donovan McNabb has no lost three straight NFC Championship games. No other quarterback in the history of the NFL has done that.

I'd agree, the topic of the moment however is the shot McNabb took.

shesh, if you think it was rush who picked the fight with McNabb, you sure weren't listening to what Rush said initially that started all of this.

It was the MEDIA Rush was talking about not McNabb per se.

Sounds to me like you're just another Rush hater.

Collinsworthless is exactly that. McNabb didn't have to "overcome" anything. He had a nice Campbell's Soup commercial, several other deals, and is given a pass by the media, especially by little Tommie Jackson and Chris (Lieberman) Berman on ESPN. It's ridiculous, and on THEIR part, it is all race.

Rush should hang it up. He is never, ever going to be a football announcer on any network at any time.

My mother knows more about football than Rush does, but what he was observing early in the season about McNabb and Culpeper and Brooks and McNair, compared with the treatment of Favre and Manning, was obvious. Glad that he's able to extract a measure of vindication today.

Two white QBs in the Super Bowl - boo hoo Michael Irvin, Tom Jackson, et. al.

a quarterback who is known to be able to scramble to make plays.

oh, so now we somehow take into account the abilities of the QB? this application of rules is getting more and more subjective, no one considered his abilities on third-and-10 last week before blowing THAT play dead.

the league has rules, however misguided, in place to protect QBs. god forbid it was brett (makes FR sweat) favre.

but again, it didn't significantly affect the outcome, so I'm not too upset about it. I'm more interested in putting these idiots in their place who think he should have played through the injury - half of whom probably can't climb a flight of stairs without being physically taxed. the man played a game on a broken ankle. I question the toughness of pinkston, thrash, etc. - not mcnabb yesterday.

Emmm, I'm a Cowboy fan, and I think Danny White lost three straight, 1980-1982.

All true. But Rush doesn't know the rules of sports media. You never call out a player by name. Even though Rush's comments toward the media were accurate, by suggesting that McNabb wasn't the second coming of Johnny Unitas is a "bulletin board comment". Add race to the mix (no matter how poorly out of context) and the thick-skulled teammates of McNabb as well as the well-identified media types will howl.

McNabb and Manning should play for the Patriots.
Even if you have a mediocre day the defense will get you the win.

And a bonus is you don't have to face the Patriot's defence - tom

McNabb is a good QB and a decent guy. He hasn't blamed his receivers or bad mouthed his teammates. His injury is legitmate and he tried to play through it.

Manning is a great QB and New England had him and the Colts offense scouted perfectly. You can say the same thing about what Carolina did to the Eagles.

McNabb is not a political figure and didn't ask to be part of a controversy. I defend Rush to no end, and I've cut back a lot of my watching ESPN since they pushed him off, but there's no point in running down McNabb.

I'm indifferent toward Rush, with a lean toward liking him because he tweaks liberals. I've followed the entire situation rather closely, and it's clear that Rush dragged McNabb into a situation he wanted no part of. It was unprofessional and inappropriate, period. Rush made a mistake, but it doesn't necessarily change my opinion of him.
