Rush's PERFECT comments Re: Donovan McNabb
me

Posted on 01/19/2004 9:26:26 AM PST by Pukin Dog

For those who missed it, Limbaugh performed the most perfect comments on Donovan McNabb this morning by not even mentioning his name.

Instead he contrasted the way that Payton Manning came out and took responsibility for his performance against the way that the media instantly set out to blame the Eagles' wide recievers for what happened to them.

It was the best revenge, because by not mentioning McNabb, no one in the media can say that Rush attacked McNabb, but to all us football fans, what Rush DIDNT say, was LOUD AND CLEAR. Thanks Rush!

Marino is leaps and bounds ahead of McNabb - with one SB granted (I brought up the standard I know)

Stack McNabb against these truly great QBs (SBs, QB Rating, pure numbers)

John Elway
John Unitas
Dan Marino
Steve Young
Brett Favre
Fran Tarkenton
Otto Grahm
Joe Montana
Joe Theisman
Joe Namath

Running QBs cannot get you a championship Roger(the dodger)Staubach, and Steve Young fans will differ. What was Steve Young, but a slightly slower white version of Michael Vick?

He said the press was rooting for McNabb to do well because they wanted to see a black QB succeed. That's not racism.

Actually, it is.

ALL teams want players who can pull off big plays when they have to be had, but it is my view that the DEFENSE made them a winning team the last four years...big play makers by themselves cannot assure success...the odds catch up with them.

Absolutely. The success of this team is predicated on their defense. The "D" has come up with huge stops many more times than McNabb has engineered game-winning drives. In many respects the Eagles have had success in the playoffs right up to the point they ran into a defense as good as their own (or better, last year). At that point it becomes a battle of which offense can play the field position/ball control game better; they've been found wanting three straight years now.

Yep, scrambling ability alone won't get you any jewelry (without the necessary QB attributes you listed above). ....and McNabb just doesn't have the goods.

(Btw, I forgot Montana and Steve Young on my list. .....and Hostettler could scramble a little too. But the vast majority of Super Bowl-winning QB's were pocket passers).

Actually I'd say there's a C which seems more likely to me: throwing in the towel. McNabb finished a regular season game on a broken ankle so his willingness to play through pain has been established. But by that point it was a 2 score lead and nobody on the Eagles team seemed to have any will left (the defense had just completely failed to stop Foster and the receivers were now running routes and not even turning around to look for passes), I think Reid gave up and felt there was no need to keep McNabb out there. BTW my thinking that is NOT a compliment to Reid.

PAY ATTENTION: Rush was speaking of the MEDIA making it a race thing...If Rush was making it a race thing, WHY DID IRVING SAY "Rush has a point?"

You are just plain wrong.

You've been right on so far, except don't mention Joe Namath with this group. I grew up idolizing him, but his career was short, his numbers not "great", more like average. His claim to fame was the Super Bowl guarantee, and he was truly a product of the NY media.

Even Walsh said the Young did not become great till he learned to be a Passer, not a runner.

"I agree with you re pocket-passing, but he IS usually good at exploiting it with his running skills. Not on Sunday, though."

At playoff time, defense coaches with their superior defenses are concentrating on stopping the strength of the Eagle offense -- McNabb's ad libbing -- with spying, keeping him contained, and blitzing. Perhaps, the Eagle offensive coaching staff can be faulted for NOT anticipating this, and for neglecting preparing McNabb for "Plan 'B'," but this now THREE YEARS IN A ROW.

I hate the Dallas Cowboys, but even I could see that it was a disgrace for that team of the early 1990s to get broken up like that just because of stupid salary cap rules.

McNabb needs to get into a system (or team) that can truly develop his arm. I don't think Philly is it. He has so much more to learn about being a great passer, and I don't think Andy Reid is the guy to teach him. BTW, who is the QB coach in Philly? If he truly has potential, then that potential needs to be developed. But if Philly keeps relying on his scrambling skills, they will never make it to the SB.

I'm not disputing that. But you're saying McNabb can't be great without making it to two or three SBs, Marino only made one so by that yardstick Marino was not a great QB. I'm not saying McNabb is great, just saying that's not an even yardstick.

It is racism on the part of the MEDIA, not Rush.

"I watched that entire game last night, including post-game coverage. They really did blame all those interceptions on the receivers, not McNabb! It was almost surreal."

And as with Rush's comments, it was *the press* doing it. McNabb made no excuses in his interview. He is a class act.

On whose part? Rush's? ..... or the members of the press Rush was referring to?

good points...But how about a "d" option, Reid gave up on McNabb, injury was an excuse to bench him without hurting his feelings or getting heat from the press?

Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaah, the best that could have come from it, was a 15 yard penalty, that would have won the game for the Iggles I am sure(sarcasm off). Football is a MANS game, played by tough MEN. McNair is the same color as McNabb, but made of much tougher stuff. Barring a Theismann type injury, NO QB worth his salt, would sit on the sidelines unless the coach makes him, or he cannot walk or throw.

The coach says sit down - fine.

He did not wimp out (though one could mention that other 'great' players have actually hid worse injuries from the coach and played well).

But the fact that the coach benched him only bolsters my point that McNabb is overrated and over-hyped.

Those guys won, and did what they had to do when things broke down, but prefered passing first...

You always get the feeling even when he drops straight back that McNabb can't wait to get out of the pocket and ad lib before routes get fully run.
