OK, gang.
Barring a catastrophe or another 9/11 attack, it's pretty much a given that President Bush will be re-elected in just under 10 months from today. That's been already listed here on FR today. And Jay Currie has a VERY good point. The Dems KNOW they've already lost this election, and are using it to position for 2008 and, God Help Us, Hillary.
Who do we have / want who is in position to run for the Republican nomination in 2008 ???
Given that President Bush would want to have his successor continue his policies, who you all of you think is a worthy successor to George W. Bush, and our best defense against the Hildebeast ???

That would be for Rudy to kick her A$$ in the '06 NY Senate race, then the only Klintoon we would ever have to fear would be Chelsea! Which is exactly why HILLARY! will not run for reelection. She will leave the Senate and start her 2 year campaign for President.
There has been a lot of talk about the Hispanic and Minority votes --How about a CONDI / MIGUEL ESTRADA ticket

I'll go with Owens, and Condi as Veep. Rice won't run for Prez in '08 and she shouldn't. Someone who has never been elected to office will not win the Presidency, except under the most unusual conditions (i.e. Eisenhower). The Presidency is, like it or not, a political position. She'd be a perfect Veep and would gain valuable campaigning experience. Other possibilities (Rudy is too far left on social issues and would be better as Senator or Governor from NY) include Bill Frist and (assuming he retires in '06 from the Senate), Jeb Bush.

Well -- Condi is pro abortion -- so that should fracture the party and insure the victory of Hillary.
No chance -- none -- that pro-life folks will stay in the party for that.
To: Salgak
I'm quite sure the movers and shakers over at the RNC are way ahead of us on this one.
The reason I say this is they remember the period of over half a century the Republican Party was wandering in the political desert, having lost to the Dems in both houses of the Congress during the '30s, '40s, '60s, and the '80s, as well as having run pallid Presidential campaigns during the '90s.
Provided Rudy G. remains healthy and his cancer stays in remission, he could indeed be a formidable opponent to Hillary; then, perhaps in 2012 or 2016, Jeb Bush could be the frontrunner. For the time being, let's just hope we can fillerbuster-proof the Senate, so the judicial nominees this president has put up can finally get through.
-Regards, T.

Rudy, sadly, is a womanizer....too many, clinton-like behaviors would be brought up and slung around.
I agree that he needs to beat hillary in the senate race of 2006.

(* Bill Owens 2008 *)
To: BlackRazor
Haven't looked into Bill Owens that much, but George Allen would be high up on my list. If I was to pick a candidate to run in 2008, it would be someone who could continue to carry the torch on the WOT and do something about the illegal immigration problem. The economy at this point is a non-issue, 2008 is a ways down the road and it's hard to say what the economy will be like 4 years from now, but the WOT will be fought for a long time, and the illegal immigration situation seems to be inherited on to the next administration. Someone needs to stay the course on the WOT and put a stop to the illegal immigration.

I saw an interview with him about a month ago, and, in response to his presidential aspirations, he gave the wishy washy "I have a lot here to do in Florida so I can't think about the presidency" answer. He did not deny that he might run.

We Republicans are going to have to start grooming a Latino candidate for prez in 2008, if we want to get the majority vote. I'm not certain that the candidate would have to be latino - but certainly the VP could/should be. As for the candidate, I'm a big fan of Rudy G. I think that he has the chutzpha to take the Hildebeast on and decimate her in a way that wouldn't alienate the electorate. 2008 is a must for us, and we all know that the Hildebeast is running like a dog after a deer.

I was hoping the same thing would happen, but so far it looks like Cheney is staying. I like him, too, and I know he's been valuable to the administration. But I really don't think he wants to be president, so it makes sense to me for him to side step and let someone in there so they can run as VP.
One scenario is that he leaves his VP post mid term (Citing health problems perhaps), allowing Condy or someone to step in.

Good question! I kind of like Condi Rice, too. Very solid on national defense. Whoever it is, Republicans have to relentlessly attack rats on two fronts: defense and taxes. It's absurd rats are attacking Dubya on the deficit.
To: Pubbie
The Hispanic vote is tiny because 33% of all Hispanics in the country are here illegally - and 33% of the projected increase in the Hispanic population will come from Illegals who can't vote.Sorry, what I meant to say was, we should run a Latino in 2008 if we want to get a majority of the post-amnesty vote.

Let them fantasize... they will wake up when it's clear she won't run. IF Condi Rice is as smart as alleged, then she definitely will not run for President on a GOP ticket. Although I doubt she is as smart as alleged... I think we have sort of a Donovan McNabb phenomenon going on here - people very desirous that she succeed in politics because she is a black woman.

Condi has never held elective office and is single. I think both could hurt her, especially being single.
