"It's cheaper to pay these guys $20 and get rid of them than waste an attorney's time on them," Castillo said.

And if we were really a 'hate group' we'd have just hired somebody to shoot them all and steal their wallets. ; * )

Heh heh heh.

Now all we have to do is brace ourselves for the howls of "right-wing censorship" and "McCarthyite tactics" that will surely come from the Fresno Bee and the other local media outlets.

Would that be an opportunity to not get her @$$ thrown out on the street?

Mayor Alan Autry said at the time there is no evidence that Free Republic is a hate group and called the news release "inflammatory, reckless, irresponsible and dangerous."

Does this mean there is evidence now that Free Republic is a hate group?

Yes, now call me a hate group, so I may call my lawyer, and have a down payment by noon. Hurry up, dammit.

Charles Doerksen, Free Republic's lawyer, said the city agreed to retract Reyes' comments and pay money to Free Republic.

So, does the City of Fresno get a receipt for their contribution to the current Freepathon?

Well, the article did mention that the settlement would be signed either today or Monday.

Maybe it'll be just enough to finish the D@mn FReepathon. (j/k)

"It's cheaper to pay these guys $20 and get rid of them than waste an attorney's time on them," Castillo said.

Neither Doerksen nor Castillo would say how much money was involved in the agreement.

It sounds like the $20 is just an example, probably designed to give the impression (correct or not) that FR did not receive significant compensation.

Well, there are some topics that do tend to bring out the more combative side of some of our brethren.
