How dare that man say that I would not do the jobs, any job it takes, to put food on the table of my family. How dare that man say such a thing. That I am a lazy American, and the only Mexicans who come here illegally have the character to do a job, any job, to put food on the table for their family. He can go to Mexico and not come back. My forefathers lived in a wooden box pulled by a horse with a canvas for a roof called a horse drawn wagon, to go somewhere, to put food on the table. My forefathers worked in dirty mines, chucking broken quartz and rock into wagons, to put food on the table. I will do the job, I will get up on someone’s roof and put up shingles, I will paint a wall, I will pick up garbage, to put food on the table for my family. I am an American. And I am proud. And I have the character to do anything it takes. How DARE this President say I won’t do the job it takes if that is what it takes to put food on the table for my family. How DARE he say that. I am an American. I will work. My character, and the character of my forefathers, brought the FREEDOM of this nation, not some illegal alien from Mexico. I will put MY character up against them any day, any place. damn right bump sir!

Well now look at it this way, Bush like so many others that want to serve the country, was born with a silver spoon in his mouth.

Dobbs has been all over this issue for ages. And he's been correct. Too bad those living close to Imperial Rome don't realize the waste they are laying to the rest of the nation.

But, maybe not, in that, I would wager, if some Democratic candidate, spokesperson, politician (with a D next to the name) went back to early Democratic Party roots, and focused on the interests of American workers, that is hit on the issues of exporting American jobs to India et all, off shore outsourcing, and yes, what the invasion of illegal aliens from South of the Border is doing to undercut living wage jobs in the USA for labor, I would predict this person would rise like a comet, a meteor,

If he was Pro life and Pro gun he would have a Hell of a GOOD chance

When we lived in the Cayman Islands, you had to have a "work permit" that was renewable every year. Each job had to be advertised once a year, and if a Caymanian was qualified and wanted the job, then your work permit was revoked.

There were plenty of jobs the Caymanians didn't want, and for the most part, folks from neighboring Caribbean countries did that work.

If there wasn't a skilled Caymanian available to do a specific task, the company would hire someone other than a Caymanian.

I think there should be recognition that there are jobs that Americans don't want, or let's put it this way, have moved away from.

Migrant agriculture workers seem to me the perfect example of jobs that most Americans would have a hard time adapting to.

But a system should be in place that allows a citizen to take precedence over a "work permit" holder, should they want the job.

This may be a brilliant move on Dubya's part - come out for a ridiculously lenient immigration plan, then let the hard-core conservatives come out of the woodwork and smack the thing down before it gets two inches off the floor.

He gets the Hispanic vote, and no harm done.

I didn't see the Dobbs program, but am listening to Michael Savage right now. Savage is predicting GWB will lose re-election because of this.

Sean Hannity earlier was decrying GWB's pandering. Neal Boortz is calling the issue Hispandering.

GWB and Rove need to open their eyes and ears. PEOPLE ARE AGAINST THIS. This issue could very well be GWB's equivalent to "read my lips; no new taxes".

If Congress does pass this, and GWB does sign it, GWB will be defeated by apathy and disinterest from his "base". The only hope now is that Congress doesn't pass it.

I sometimes have had great difficulty with this POTUS. However, our current way of dealing with illegal aliens is unconscionable. It is unBiblical. And we can do better. Are there Americans clamoring for jobs in the fields of Florida/California/Michigan/etc.? Are there Americans clamoring for jobs in chicken houses in Arkansas/Mississippi/Kentucky/etc.? Or have they been told they're better off accepting a welfare check for a higher amount than they would earn working 60+hours a week? Apparently, there are lots of aliens willing to do the work.

Dobbs is just pissed that Bush just sowed up a GOP majority for the next 50 years and that the RNC oustmarted the rats yet again.

So the details of this measure will be left to the Senate and House.

Of the 8 million some illegals in this country I wonder how many of them have verifiable long term living wage jobs. Contrary to what activists and RATS say about all illegal being able to support themselves and contributing to the economy I don't believe that 30% can qualify as having a guaranteed job or a consistent job history.

I wonder how many employers will be sued for giving jobs Americans want to immigrants under this plan?

He really got my blood going, he was right on and no fan of illegal immigration...

I am outraged by Buffalo Bush. How dare that man say that I would not do the jobs, any job it takes, to put food on the table of my family.

How dare that man say such a thing. That I am a lazy American, and the only Mexicans who come here illegally have the character to do a job, any job, to put food on the table for their family.

I am an American. I will work. My character, and the character of my forefathers, brought the FREEDOM of this nation, not some illegal alien from Mexico. I will put MY character up against them any day, any place.

Against any one.

Including you, Mr. Bush.

Me effing too.

Our President is destroying this country. I've been a lifelong Pubbie since 1964. I'm thinking of switching and going for the Liebermeister. Allowing ILLEGAL immigrants legal status is against the law. Where is John Ashcroft on this issue?

Damn, I am so pissed-off at W that I switch the channels from Fox to CNN and back, just so I don't even want to hear this sell-out by a man that I loved as Commander-in-Chief.

Well said.

As I look at the peanut gallery posts it is humerous that rather than address your statement you are being derided personally. Oh well...some just try to raise themselves by putting others down. Poor for them.

I voted for Pres Bush. I am glad he is the Pres at this point in history. I do not care for his position on the Illegal Invasion. I do not think there are any simple answers. Those here and established must be dealt with. Those coming in should be held accountable for breaking our laws. And it is IMPERATIVE to cancel the 'Anchor Baby' programs.

Good post.

Does your "character" stand up to all illegal immigrants...or just those from Mexico?
