NONE of these people will be naturalized citizens. IF THEY CHOOSE to, they will go through the same process as you did. I think you are all being very short-sighted here.

Wait a minute. None of this happens without Congressional action!

It's not like Bush just waved a magic wand. There WILL be debates and hearings.

You are correct, sir!

Here's the rub: Congress would have to write legislation for the changes to take effect.

Pay for jobs should NOT be set based on a reasonable or living wage. They should be based on market competition. Anything other than that is pure socialism.

English is conquering the world as the prime language, yet people here are terrified that somehow this nation will become a nation of Latinos who speak Spanish. C'mon.

I know, from Ohio it seems ludicrous.

But spend a few months in California & you'll be singing a different tune.

And now suddenly all these illegals will be granted 3-year-visas and services paid for by my tax dollars.

What services are you referring to? Remember, under this program, these workers would be here legally only if they have a job, and their family can only come in if they can be supported by the worker. Any services they receive (schools, police, etc) will be paid by their tax dollars as well (since they will be here legally, they will also be paying taxes).

No. I'd prefer to see the law enforced and have the illegal immigrants rounded up and deported.

That would be a Michael Jackson/Madelyne Toogood/Steve Irwin media moment extraordinaire.

ABC/CBS/NBC/CNN/PMSNBC/PQR/XYZ would have their cameras lined up at every border crossing in the country, broadcasting live as families shriek as their illegal loved ones are dragged across the border in chains.

America would be pounded into submission after that.

Another possibility is to bring the troops home from Iraq and Afghanistan and put them on the border between Mexico and the US.....

right now we are helping shape a provisional government in Iraq. One of our governments recommendations of this new Iraqi government will be control of IT'S borders for safety and sovereignty....should we as citizens of this country expect less from these same government officials on our own borders?

Do you actually believe these "new immigrants" will follow the regulations and requirements as required by this new policy or will simply blow them off as they did when they came here "illegally" in the first place?

The so-called "reforms" years ago to hold employers accountable and prosecutable for hiring illegals were a joke and never enforced.

I recently drove nearly the entire west cost of this country and from what I saw, it is hardly full up.

I spent a summer picking veggies. Pay me enough to live on, and I'd do it again.

You are an exception, really. How many welfare recipients have the same attitude? I dare say very few. Why? Because some where along the way, they were led to believe that they are too good for those jobs, that those jobs are beneath them. And instead of adopting the mantra of hard work, they adopt the attitude of why bother. It is truly an attitude shift in this country. The idea of working hard to get ahead is going the way of the dino, and is being replaced by the 'I deserve better' attitude.

You must not live in a border state!

I'm in a mid-Atlantic state and they're overunning a good portion of the low income areas of town.

Well, here are the facts:

1. Bush's plan will legitimize and legalize the millions of illegals already working in this country by giving them legal status to be here.

2. While this is supposed to be temporary, provisions are included for renewing the status after a 3-year period.

3. Bush said that families could come, which means babies born here who are automatically US citizens. We have provisions in place NOW to let parents of US citizens remain in the country...eventually gaining citizenship themselves.

4. Blue cards will lead to green cards will lead to permanent resident status will lead to naturalization.

5. While Bush does not call this "amnesty," I see no difference between amnesty and allowing people who are illegally in this country to stay and continue to work, with official legal status. That's amnesty.

Essentially, this is an open invitation to citizens of Mexico to cross the border, find a job, then gain legal status. Those already here are home free. Those who enter illegally will soon be home free. This is a very, very bad plan, indeed.

Guest worker programs are nothing new and this plan solves many problems - border control, shortage of workers, assimilation, etc.

You need to take a deep breath before go on a blame game against this magnificent President.

A couple of Mexicanos were digging a trench for me to put some wires into last year. They were amazed when I jumped in and helped them dig.

They were even more amazed when I started singing, "Cuando caliente el sol, aqui en la playa..."

We got along pretty well after that.

No, it wasn't an EXO. This has to go to Congress to get hashed out. It's not like the sky is falling crowd won't get a chance to have any input.

Now pardon me, there are fifty Mexicans trying to invade my backyard and claim it for "Aztlan". They're in my damn pool and they just ran up their damn flag on my house. I think they're being led by the Clone of Pancho Villa.

Be Seeing You,

Chris
