Iran's Nuke Project Could Be Destroyed in 2 Days
Conventional wisdom asserts that Irans nuclear facilities are so dispersed throughout the country and have such well-hardened defenses that it would be very difficult to take them out quickly. But a former senior CIA operative has told The Jerusalem Post that the United States could put a stop to Irans Manhattan Project in two days. link: 81 comments
Did we, and thus the opposition, really need to know this right now?
Well, it really doesn't say anything that isn't already known. We have had the capability for over a decade.

BTW, we also already have nuclear bunker busters in our arsenal...

Stephen Walt's War with Israel
The left is frothing over a new article from Harvards Kennedy School of Government that will no doubt be featured in every CAIR press release from now on, a lengthy diatribe about the Israeli lobbys control of the United States, and our need to have closer ties with Islamic nations.

Heres Part One of a provocative, closely reasoned and very readable essay by J.R. Dunn, former editor of the International Military Encyclopedia: Prospects of Terror: An Inquiry into Jihadi Alternatives.
For those who cannot understand how it is that the big-government, nanny-state "liberal" left finds kinship with fundamentalist Islam and fascist dictators - an interview with poet Ali Ahmad Sa'id, who is known by the pseudonym "Adonis"; Adonis: "On the other hand, if we are slaves, we can be content and not have to deal with anything. Just as Allah solves all our problems, the dictator will solve all our problems." Comments (9)
Who Will Save Adbul Rahman (Michelle Malkin Slams Craven Silence On Plight Of Abdul Rahman Alert)
There's an ambitious article by JR Dunn at American Thinker which tries to sketch out where the long struggle with radical Islamism is headed. The excerpts below give a flavor of its principle argument. But unfortunately the American Thinker article stops in a cliffhanger-like fashion until the sequel, Sidelining Europe, is published tomorrow. Yet it's not just radical Islam that is consciously re-examining its strategy. Jed Babbin at the American Spectator is pondering the same question for the viewpoint of -- for want of a better term -- conservatives, casting it as a contest between Wilsonian and Jacksonian approaches. (Hat tip: Powerline) Babbin argues that President Bush has taken the Wilsonian approach to victory by "democratizing" the enemy to destroy its theocratic social base. Alan Johnson, editor of Democratiya, a journal dedicated to "a renewal of the politics of democratic radicalism by providing a forum for serious analysis and debate" passionately argues that the Left has blinded itself to the obvious fact that radical Islamism is the chief totalitarian menace in the world today. He says the Left should step up to the plate and take up the resistance in a manifesto called How democracies can defeat Totalitarian Political Islam.
This belated flurry of strategic thinking means it is increasingly accepted that September 11 wasn't simply a gigantic crime -- an Oklahoma City bombing writ large. It was the end of an era and beginning of a new one. We are not, as JR Dunn so eloquently put it, about to "go back to everyday life, the way things were before all that unpleasantness in lower Manhattan and Washington those long years ago". That may be terrible news for those who believe the 1960s never ended, but there it is. We are adrift on a dark sea... 44 comments links to this post

Alan Dershowitz is righteously pissed off about the Walt-Mearsheimer anti-Israel article published in the London Review of Books: AIPAC study is ignorant propaganda.
The primary flaw in the Harvard "study" is that it is based on circular logic, thus:
a. Israel is bad.
b. Because Israel is bad, Arab states rightully hate Israel.
c. Since we need the cooperation of Arab states, we ought to do what they want.
d. What they want is for us to side with them against Israel.
e. If we don't side with them against Israel, then they will work against us, and damage our national interests.
f. Therefore, in order to promote our national interests, we should abandon Israel.
g. Those groups like AIPAC that want us to cooperate with and help Israel, are therefore working against our national interest.
h. The counter-argument that we should side with Israel for moral and strategic purposes are false, because:
i. Israel is bad.
Starting with the premise that Israel is bad, they come to the conclusion that Israel is bad. Along the way, their train of thinking entails us dhimmifying ourselves to the Arabs.

ABC may not be covering Saddam Hussein's trial very well, but it has provided excellent coverage of the newly-released Iraqi Intelligence Service documents captured by coalition forces after the dictator's fall from power. Earlier today it added two more significant documents to those it had already translated, and the new material shows more evidence of Iraqi cooperation with al-Qaeda: The first document (CMPC-2003-001950) is a handwritten account, The second document (CMPC-2004-001117) is a typed account...This shines an entirely new light on the OFF scandal. Not only was the UN complicit in helping to support and sustain Saddam Hussein's grip on power, but it also enabled Saddam to buy enough intelligence from a permanent member of the UN Security Council ... the same one that now wants to block action against Iran. Speaking of Breitbart, I heard him interviewed by Richard Miniter, sitting in for Michael Reagan. He was talking about this Hollyweird agent, Pat Dollard, who had an epiphany while having lunch with Steven Soderburgh, who was telling him about how he was making Syriana, so he could brainwash Americans about the ME and how everything is about oil. Dollard quit his six-figure job, got a camera crew together, and went to Iraq to shoot a documentary about our brave troops, currently titled Young Americans. He's been hit twice by IEDs (he's still got shrapnel in his legs), and he can't get anyone in Hollyweird interested in his documentary, because it's pro-military, pro-war, and pro-American. |

Deus ex Tel Aviv
Glenn Reynolds of InstaPundit writes in Friday's Guardian (UK) over the ill-advised view some hold that the international community need not be concerned with Iran's pursuit of nuclear weapons because Israel will handle the situation. I've noticed a hope on the part of a lot of commentators for a sort of Deus ex Tel Aviv, with people reassuring themselves that the Israelis will strike, as they did at the Iraqi Osirak facility in 1981....I do a regular series of podcasts and our most recent episode featured an interview with Daniel Ayalon, Israel's ambassador to the United States. He made it quite clear that Israel regards the Iranian nuclear programme as the world's problem, not Israel's problem, and that the world shouldn't look to Israel to solve the world's problems...Regardless, however, I don't think that the world can look to Israel to pull its chestnuts out of the fire. And, I have to say, I don't blame the Israelis for taking that attitude.
Strategy Page has an excellent overview of the often overlooked chemical and biological weapons program underway in Iran. The seriousness of these programs is undeniable. "These are weapons of mass destruction and American policy is very clear: If attacked by chemical or biological weapons, the United States will respond with nuclear weapons."
SP reports that "American intelligence agencies estimate that Iran is producing 1,000 tons of chemical weapons a year, including mustard gas, phosgene, and various cyanide agents." Intelligence also suggests that "Iran is working on smallpox" and "two types of biotoxins: mycotoxins and ricin."
Iranian IEDs have been found throughout Iraq, their desire to obtain WMD is undisputed, their president is a danger to regional and world security, and as both we and SP note, is a sponsor of terrorist groups, including Hezbollah, Hamas, PFLC-GC, and Islamic Jihad.
Ex-left wing goddess, one time Muslim bride, anti-cultural relativist, and as Bat Ye'or called her "daring lover of the truth". I was unfamiliar with Phyllis Chesler until I heard her speak at The The Middle East & Academic Integrity on the American Campus Conference At Columbia University over a year ago. Her remarks blew me away and the more she revealed the louder she was heckled by Pro-Palestinian inciters in the room. Inciters, thugs - these fools had their phones play loud music, their walkie talkies go off , but Chesler never flinched, stumbled or faltered. She gave it right back and made sure her story was told. I subsequently have written about her numerous times and strongly recommend you review her extensive body of work...in The Death of Feminism : What's Next in the Struggle for Women's Freedom, the level of anti-American and anti-Israeli propaganda and intolerance towards all those who do not kow-tow to it is fairly monumental on many feminist list-serv groups...
I was literally "purged," Stalinist-style from one such group for my various pro-America and pro-Israel "Thought Crimes." It was a most instructive experience.
Download Chesler_Interview.mp3
It runs a little under an hour, first half focuses on Chesler's background and history (not to be missed), second half addresses how the left destroys this nation, destroyed academia, and enables the Islamofascists to commit the worst acts of barbarism against women (and the West).

CONTROVERSIAL MUHAMMAD CARTOONS APPEAR AT FREEDOM RALLY
LONDON -- About 200 people have turned out for a free-speech demonstration in central London. And some of them carried posters of the controversial cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad that infuriated much of the Muslim world.
Protest organizers had originally invited protesters to display the images on banners and T-shirts. But they later withdrew that invitation to avoid alienating sympathetic Muslims.
The reversal prompted hundreds of angry Internet responses from people who called it political censorship.
Some demonstrators showed their support for the cartoons by carrying signs saying Stop Toonophobia.'' Others draped themselves in Danish flags.
Nine men identified by police as Muslim counter-protesters were escorted away.
And I can almost guarantee that these were amateurs, regular folks not professional protesters that emerge upon command. I saw this at the New York Rally.
