Fellow Freepers, we need to try to block the Bush Amnesty Proposal that is being prepared to be released on Wednesday, by Freeping the GOP members of the House Judiciary Committee:
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A52647-2004Jan3.html
The gist of the Washington Post story is that Bush will propose 3 major components on Wednesday:
1) Give an amnesty to an unspecified amount of Illegal Aliens (Probably a little less than 500,000 people.)
2) Give some sort of Social Security benefits to Illegal Aliens.
3) Create some sort of Guest Worker program.
I believe that if we put enough grass roots pressure on the GOP House Judiciary Committee members (who are listed below) we can have parts 1 and 2 completely removed from any bill in the House, and have part 3 considerably watered down if a large amount of us protest by Phoning/Faxing/E-Mailing the GOP members of the House Judiciary Committee and demanding that they reject the Amnesty (Below is a list of how to contact all members of the GOP House Judiciary Committee memebers).
Now the Buchananites here on FR will no doubt say "The GOP doesn't listen to us/There is no difference between the two parties/ blah blah blah...". But they are wrong, there is considerable opposition within the House GOP to any amnesty for Illegal immigrants.
In August 2001 the House GOP was ready to rebel against the President and kill off the original Bush Amnesty proposal, until the 911 attacks buried the plan.
All GOP politicians (With the apparent exception of Bush and Rove) know very well that illegal immigrants won't vote for Republicans.
Think about it, all politicians absolutely MUST know who is and isn't going to vote for them.
The GOP has studied the 2000 and 2002 Election Exit polls in excruciating detail, and there is no evidence whatsoever that the GOP got any headway in the Latino vote in 2002. Furthermore polls show that no headway will be made by the GOP in the 2004 election.
That is why a number of major Republican politicians in November and December of 2003 have publicly said that there was major hostility to any Amnesty program within Congress.
For Example:
* Texas Governor Rick Perry said (during a meeting with Vicente Fox no less) that there was no support for any sort of Amnesty for Illegal Immigrants in Congress.
* Arizona Senator John Kyl said the McCain/Kolbe Amnesty bill, and other Illegal Immigrant bills, would be impossible to pass in 2004.
* Texas Congressman Lamar Smith (Who sits on the Judiciary Committee) said after the Ridge Trial balloon for Amnesty to all Illegal Immigrants:
"I don't see a substantial change in immigration policy in an election year," said Rep. Lamar Smith, R-San Antonio, a House immigration subcommittee member who has expressed concern that an amnesty program for illegal immigrants could harm national security."
http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/dallas/nation/stories/121203dnnatimmigration.76a1.html
* And Finally Tom Tancredo said in the same article:
"We have enough support on our side to stop them from liberalizing immigration law," said Mr. Tancredo, R" Colo. "And on the other hand, I don't think I have enough [support] to advance our agenda. So, that's why I think we are sort of at loggerheads."
What we Freepers need to do is, instead of voting for the Constitution Party:
1) Phone up the below members of the GOP House Judiciary Committee Members (Who are all listed below) to complain about this Amnesty plan and tell them not to pass it.
2) Fax these Congressmen to tell them to reject the plan.
3) Email these Congressmen to reject an amnesty.
If enough of us complain, it will help block the major portions of the White House's plan in the House where most Republican Congressmen are already very leary of an Amnesty plan.
PS: In your letters/phone calls/E-mails to the below Congressmen, do NOT use any vulgarity.
Regards,
Pubbie

The point is that few here are asking themselves why all the suddenly the left (Washington Post) is so hot to trot on an issue that they seldom paid any attention to in the past?
Could it possibly have something to do with the upcoming elections?
I know some illegal immigrants as well, and lots and lots of native-born Americans who think worse of this country than any one of the illegal immigrants do.
All in all, the solution to this issue is complex, and the roots of the problem are not advertised.
Americans overall want less legal immigration, yet, we are giving birth at way below the replacement rate, and killing a million fetuses yearly to boot.
We also want low taxes, low prices on consumer goods, and tons of services.
Our population is aging, just like in Europe. There, they are repopulating themselves with Muslims, we have Mexico, and the Hispanic Americas. I'll take Hispanics over Muslims any day of the week.
One last thing.
The baby boomers are starting to retire at an astounding rate, we cannot maintain the worker to retiree ratio needed to float the SSA any longer, and the birth facts listed above are adding to our inability to maintain these ratios at pre-millenium levels.
If these figures continue at their predicted rates, we could feasibly allow the entire working age population of Mexico into the U.S. by the year 2050, and still not maintain the SSA viable vis a vis the current worker to retiree ratio.
Most here like to call me a troll, but I insist that until we understand the roots of this issue, we will never find a solution.
This proposal only impacts people who have returned to Mexico!
Why the hell do I even bother?
While Bush is obviously going to be the nominee, a noticable vote against his craven open-borders pandering, may help drive the point home that the base ain't happy with his antics.
Other actions:
Very, very well stated -- and points up exactly IMO the problem in this whole issue.
Honesty.
This "migration" is not just happening. There is a reason, many reasons actually. My displeasure is not so much with the ILLEGALS (though letting it get out of hand angers me) -- it's with our ruling class of both Parties. They are not honest about this.
One reason for both Parties support is certainly concern for who is going to pay the taxes? I remember news of studies from both Parties that said the young would be paying more than 80 percent in taxes. Fat chance. So why can't the politicians come out and state frankly what you have said?
The other reasons are a bit uglier such as preventing revolution in Mexico, forced migration by a corrupt government, our businesses' insatiable appetite for cheap, docile labor, and more plus the small number of Aztlan nuts.
I don't think the W-P is trying to stir up anything, Dem rats would go even further that the President.
I would oppose any attempt to lessen the requirements of citizenship for those who choose to become Americans.
How do you proved you stold a Social Security number 30 years ago --- and what if 5 other guys are claiming that it was they who stold it -- not you? If 6 people get together and claimed each one worked only 2 years for a stolen Social Security number that was used illegally 12 years by only one --- how do you prove they didn't? If someone claims that they stold your Social Security number and it was really them working some of that time when it never really was stolen and only you used it --- that can't be proven ---- especially if you are a dead guy when this happens -- you won't be there to deny it.
There was massive fraud in the 80's amnesty ---- because the undocumented really have no proof.
The Muslims in Europe are there illegally?
I'm against abortion and all that -- but I don't think we're way below replacement rate --- I think we reached an equilibrium. We're the fastest growing country now by far in population growth --- because of immigration --- but do we need cities like Los Angeles, New york, Chicago, Houston growing rapidly? Do we need all our small towns turned into big cities?
High birth rates haven't helped some countries --- like Mexico for example and many of the African countries. It seems that China with it's one-child policy ---- that's way below replacement rate --- is the country that's pulling ahead the fastest.
