The WP article-(without any sources,just Republican "officials") was just a rehash of the Washington Times article a few weeks ago. But,what both articles had in common,was that nowhere in either article was there any mention of amnesty. Maybe one is required to wear special 3 D type glases to see the hidden messages about amnesty in the articles. This quote from Tom Ridge, from his Q&A, always gets overlooked in the white hot fever to accuse President Bush of granting amnesty to illegal aliens -

''I'm not saying make them citizens,'' Ridge said. ``They violated our laws to get here. You don't reward that kind of conduct.''

Don't know which 'Times 'article you refer to but in this W-P it looks like they *spin* amnesty into "mechanism". Any illegal that is allowed to remain in the USA & become *legal* (or *whatever* they're calling it that day) is receiving an amnesty. This also allows then to *legally* line-jump ahead of those waiting to imm. here legally.

Yes, & here's something else Ridge said in the same Q&A, I believe. Except here he says "afford them some kind of legal status".

So if you 'reward' those who have "violated our laws" & 'give them legal status'.......it's the same as amnesty.

Yes. INstead we'll just give them unlimited three year citizenship renewable forever. AMNESTY by another name.
