MAQUOKETA, Iowa (AP) Howard Dean appealed to fellow Democratic presidential candidates Saturday to stop the bitter attack politics that have come to dominate the race for the party's nomination. The race needs "a little character transplant," he said. "It's not necessary to tear down the other opponents," said Dean, whose front-running campaign has come increasingly under fire from Democratic rivals.
In his latest swing through Iowa, where the nominating process starts with caucuses next month, Dean pushed hard at his claim to being an outsider running against Washington-based candidates with no record of accomplishment.
"There are five or six people running for president right now who have a chance at winning," Dean said. "I'm the only person who has done anything about trying to get health care."
Dean is bunched with Missouri Rep. Dick Gephardt in Iowa, but he has developed a wide lead in other early states such as New Hampshire. As his campaign has developed momentum, he's come under fire with regularity.
"This campaign needs a little character transplant," Dean said. "You shouldn't believe what other people say."
Dean argues that his Internet-based campaign is broadening the Democratic Party and offers the most realistic chance of ousting President Bush. He urged backers to commit not only to supporting him but also to changing the party.
"It has to be about rebuilding the Democratic party," said Dean.
Dean argued that his 12 years as governor of Vermont give him experience unmatched by his rivals and a record that draws the sharpest contrast with President Bush.

This is too funny. Dean makes his bones by attacking everyone else in the race and now that he thinks he has a lead he sues for peace.
Dishonest mo fo.

Now isn't that something sweet and special. The guy who has attacked Bush relentlessly as well as any of his opponents about their positions on the war on terror now wants others to quit.
He's a jerk plain and simple.
I want him as the democratic nominee!

This is so funny especially coming from Dean.
It would only be funnier if Pat Buchanan had said it.

Wasn't there a freeper joke about approaching a Peace protester and popping him hin the kisser. And when he goes to retaliate, you say, "Don't do that! You believe violence in wrong, right?" "Oh, yeah, dude, sorry." And then you pop him in the kisser again. Repeat as necessary.
I think of that when I see Dean the attack-dog suggesting, "Can't we all get along? We all realize that attack politics hurts us, right?" Only a fool will listen to him now (I wouldn't be surprised if all the Dem candidates actually do as he says!)

"It's not necessary to tear down the other opponents," said DeanI wonder if this applies to President Bush. Every ad from every democrat I've seen here in South Carolina has attacked the President. I've seen no ads where the democrats attack each other. From seeing the ads, I have no idea where the democrats stand, except that they all hate President Bush.
