[history]
Conspiracy theories continued to sprout among Democrats yesterday in the wake of the capture of Saddam Hussein. Some Democrats expressed alarm that the party was drifting out of the "mainstream."
Madeleine Albright, the secretary of state in the Clinton administration, in a conversation with Morton Kondracke, executive editor of Roll Call and a Fox News Channel political analyst, suggested that Osama bin Laden has been captured by U.S. forces and will soon be produced to the public.

I can see that she
might have been joking .. in this way.
All these Clintonites have no problem with their base thinking GW is an intellectual lightweight. But they know better -- they know, by now, that he's a formidable opponent, both intellectually and politically. And besides all that, NOTHING has gone their way politcally since he came into office, with the exception of the judicial fight.
In the last 30 days, he's made a surprise visit to Iraq where the troops were overjoyed to see him (upstaging Hillary) he's co-opted the Medicare issue and forced the Dems to oppose it, and now, Saddam is in custody. And she might be thinking, "WHAT IS HE GOING TO DO NEXT? PULL A RABBIT OUT OF A HAT?"
She thinks she's talking to a kindred spirit as Kondrake leans liberal. And maybe she was thinking out loud when she said it, in the form of, "What's he gonna do next -- do you think he's got Osama hidden away and will produce him just before the next election?"
I'm not saying that the above scenario is the way it actually happened. It's just a possibility.

What the Dems really can't stand is the vast alternative of cable news, talk radio, conservative magazines and newspapers and the Internet CALLING THEM on every stupid and moronic thing they say that, in the past, was covered up by their willing accomplices in the so-called "mainstream" press.
Tough!

These theories are similar to the wag-the-dog theories Republicans came up with when Clinton ordered bombings during the Lewinsky fiasco.Big difference...those were true. And anyone that thinks otherwise is an idiot. Clinton did NOTHING to hamper or attack terrorism UNTIL he was going to a grand jury and then under impeachment.
And then a few missiles here and there aimed at NO strategic targets (just ask the generals at the time). Sorry, nice try.

There's also a big difference between wasting our missiles firing at empty tents and aspirin factories [yes, that was proven to be a fact] and waging the most efficient war in history, toppling a brutal dictator in the process and then finding him skulking in a rat hole.

Oh. So lobbing a few cruise missiles at an aspirin factory in the Sudan on the eve of Monica's grand jury testimony was military genius?
Like I said, look up the comments from the commanding generals that were not happy with his decision.
And when he lobbed another few fruitless missiles at a "camp" in Afghanistan, one day before the impeachment vote in the House, the decision was ran through his usual political mill (they probably took polls) to the point any opportunity to actually do real damage was hours old once the missiles were flying.
Instead of baseless rhetoric, try facts.

Just keep on hammering with FACTS; they beat out tinfoil everytime. :-)

In all fairness conspiracy theories are cast about with great ease right here on this very website. Speculating that Bush may be keeping Osama under wraps is pretty low level conspiracy spinning.
The Democrats are out of their minds over Bush, no doubt about it. But some of this seems to be something people just do no matter what the political circumstances.

Oh.As devastating rejoinders commonly go: "oh" ranks somewhere midplace between "yo mama" and "I know you are, but what am I?"
Fledermaus and I are, neither one of us, on the other's Xmas card lists... but: he's right, and you're wrong. Clinton's manly, all-out, two-fisted, rip-snortin' war versus the eeeeeeeeeeeeeevil and debauched aspirin factories of the Middle East was the prototypical instance of Presidential Dog-Wagging.
This has been crushingly, concretely proven in more tombs than I have the time to tell... but, for the latest (re-)(re-)telling of same: try Rich Lowry's excellent Legacy.

These conspiracy theories are not being cast about by your average Joe. What these idiots say becomes NEWS, which the media is more than happy to headline.
To: Fledermaus
You're exactly right.
In days gone by this kind of nonsense would make the news, with no rebuttal being offered by the "unbiased" media.
Things have changed and now these clowns realize that they will be held accountable for their words.

This demonstrates one of the sad, hidden little... "limitations" of SpellCheck. Since "tombs," too, is an actual word... :)
