CAIRO, December 15 (IslamOnline.net) Former U.S. Attorney General Ramsy Clarke expressed readiness Sunday, December 14, to act as defense lawyer for ousted Iraqi president Saddam Hussein, with western analysts suspecting the captured leader would be given fair trial.
"Certainly, why not. I am ready to act in his defense," Clarke told IslamOnline.net shortly after the U.S. confirmed the detention of Saddam near Tikrit.
Clarke, currently in Cairo to attend a two-day international anti-occupation conference, stressed that Saddam however brutal should be give a "fair, objective and impartial trial".
"Saddam must be domestically prosecuted first and - if this fails - he should be referred to an international court," said the former American official, known for his staunch opposition to the U.S.-led invasion and occupation of Iraq.
He doubted, however, that the ousted Iraqi president would be given such a fair trial.
Clarke averred that neither the U.S.-installed Interim Governing Council (IGC) nor the occupation forces is eligible to try the overthrown president.
"The IGC does not represent Iraq. It is Bush's council," said the former U.S. attorney general.
He noted that the Iraqi body was quick to say that DNA test proved the captured man was Saddam.
"Do you think that they can take the test themselves. They are puppets," Clarke maintained.
For the occupation forces to take over the trial, he dismissed this as a would-be ridiculous proposal.
"Occupation of Iraq is in itself an international crime" and runs counter to common decency and moral integrity.
Asked if Saddam could be taken to the International Criminal Court, the former U.S. attorney general whimsically ruled out the suggestion, noting Washington does not even recognize the court.

Sure, but this ass clown is actively rooting for Hussein and against us. He's not offering to do it out of some sense of obligation and love of the law, but out of a loathing of the United States of America.***DING DING DING*** No more calls; we have a winner!
John Adams was motivated by respect for the rule of law. Ramsey Clark is acting out of love for publicity.

Couple of notions...
1. War has a constitutional meaning as well.
2. Dissent is not treason. If it were then liberals would have had us in prison long ago.
3. The Iraqi Money funding anti-war protests. I have heard this numerous times in web forums and it has been oft repeated in blogs. I have yet to see any convincing data to support the allegation. Upon inspection it turns out to be that Saddam Hussein gave money to X who later funded organization Y who supported the efforts of Group Z who provided verbal support to A. It becomes a post hoc propter hoc argument. If you have any clear and convinving evidence I would be glad to see it though.

SO, are you saying that, constitutionally, Iraq was not an actual War?
However, International A.N.S.W.E.R. is funded by people like Ramsey Clark, who has received payments from Saddam Hussein - and, in all honesty I would not be surprised if SAddam hasn't been slipping them cash. I have no concrete proof yet, but I've been working on it.
That being said, Ramsey Clark has continually taken sides, providing aid and comfort to our enemies during times of war - witness his Hanoi-Jane style visits to North Viet Nam during the Vietnam War, as a perfect example.

That would be a reasonable assumption from a consitutional perspective. It is laso the reason why Johnny Jihad, Jose Padilla, Jane Fonda and the Rosenbergs were never charged with treason.
Treason has specific elements to charge. Don't meet them then it is something other than treason in any legal sense. It may meet the subjective dictionary or ideological definition of treason but it isn't treason in any legal sense.
As I thought...The " Saddam funding anti-war protests" is so fifth hand as to be ludicrous. A Fallacy of reference just shy of " prove Saddam DIDN'T fund the Anti-war protests."

The CC does not believe in divorce but pay your $$ and your marriage of 20 years and five kids will be annulled. There certainly are some bad bishops who let things like that happen.
Personally, I wish the Pope would put his fist down hard on the bad ones (like I would) but doesn't because the bad ones would probably start a schism and start the "American Catholic Church" a renegade breakaway church. The pope can't allow that many souls to be harmed by schism
Of course that's just my opinion. Instead he lets the bad ones retire or die out andget replaced by solid bishops like the one St. Louis just got.
Shame that a Ramsey Clark thread gets so detoured. And it;s not your fault, as it detoured long before you got here.

Well then YOU should be the moral guiding light of civilization since with incomplete information and only your opinion from afar you can declare the war "moral". Oops, that assumes you are a Catholic. If not I would suggest that you might not fully grasp the concept of the Just War Doctrine.

Why am I not surprised that Ramsy Clarke wants to defend Saddam?! This proves beyond all shadow of a doubt (as if I had any) that Saddam is a creature of the Left.
The Left has given the world some of history's most bloody butchers: Lenin, Stalin, Mao, Hitler (yes, NAZI is an acronym for National SOCIALIST), Pol Pot, the North Korean communists, Castro, Saddam Hussein the list is a long one. I will be an enemy of the Left all my life.
