SADDAM Hussein was no longer in Iraq, the US television network CBS reported today, citing unidentified military sources.
A CBS News correspondent in Saddam's northern Iraq hometown of Tikrit, near where Saddam was captured yesterday, said he had learned from military sources that the former Iraqi president was no longer in the country.
US Lieutenant General Ricardo Sanchez, the top US military commander in Iraq, said in Baghdad that Saddam "is currently under coalition custody and at an undisclosed location".

I'm inclined to
disbelieve it until I see some sort of proof. Sort of the like the WMD. EVERYBODY said there was evidence six months ago. Now where is it?
First, what more proof do you need to see, and second, why not be neutral vis a vis the facts? To "disbelieve" something seems to give a drooling moron like Saddam the benefit of the doubt.
As to you second point, I am sure we will find out where they are buried, but then again, I am fairly sure you think that the evidence was "planted."?

The weather's certainly nicer there than in a Tikrit spider hole.

Funny how the DU goonsquads come here ranting against the ultra-liberals, as if they are the UberPatriots. Reminds me that during the McCarthy era the Communists would stand up in public and decry Communism and say how terrible it is that there are Communists in America, and everyone would applaud them and go look elsewhere for Communists.

....and everyone would applaud them and go look elsewhere for Communists. - yes the greatest thing evil can do is pretend it does not exist.

The French, Germans, and Russians will probably send hit squads to kill off Saddam. Chirac is probably on the line with Schröder now, asking if the Germans can pull off another Skrozney.
On 29th July 1943, Adolf Hitler had a meeting with SS-Sturmbannführer Otto Skorzeny about the possibility of rescuing Benito Mussolini, imprisoned high in the Abruzzi Apennines. Skorzeny agreed and on 13th September he led an airbourne force of commandos by glider to a dangerous landing near the hotel where he was being held. Mussolini was soon freed and Skorzeny flew him to safety.

You seem hung up on this DU thing. Is that because deep down, you know there's very little difference between the Republican party and the Democratic party these days? No, it's because Democrats have revealed today that they are outright evil.
And denying Saddam gassed the Kurds is evil.

I visit DU extremely rarely, but I thought this would be a good day to peek in.
They are in disarrey -- even trying to spin that Saddam's capture is actually bad for Bush:
"The capture of Saddam makes the quagmire in Iraq more apparent,"
These guys are so pathetic, it's hilarious!
My guess is Saddam Hussein doesn't know where in the sand the WMDs are. But now that he is captured, folks will step forward.

Wow! Very roomy interior.
