PARIS (Reuters) - French President Jacques Chirac says he is delighted at the arrest of Saddam Hussein by U.S.-led forces in Iraq and believes it will clear the way for Iraqis to rule Iraq.
"The president is delighted at the arrest of Saddam Hussein. This is a major event which should strongly contribute to the democratisation and the stabilisation of Iraq and allow the Iraqis to once more be masters of their destiny in a sovereign Iraq," Chirac said in remarks transmitted by telephone by his spokeswoman Catherine Colonna.
Chirac strongly opposed the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq and the issue has been a source of friction with Washington.

"Wait till Saddamn starts singing. " Yeah, Saddam has no reason to cover up France's profiting off his cruel tyranny over the Iraqis.
Sadly though that info won't ever be made public. That's just how diplomacy is played.
Baker will just have that little smile on his face as he announces Frances "very, very generous" treatment of those old debts.

xactly. There should be a "nervous laughter" playing in the background with these "congratulatory" notes from our EU backstabbers. I do hope the truth of their support and alliance with Saddam all comes to light - SOON!

France will be lucky if that's all that happens to them....
Mrs. Bat's theory is that the Frogs, Krauts and Russkies will now get very cooperative and do that requested "debt forgiveness" business...perhaps under the gentle prod from Washington that certain revelations will be kept quieter than they might be under other circumstances.

Just what I was thinking.
First question he will ask Saddam is for the number of those Swiss accounts.

Captured hiding in a basement. Just saw the news! Is this great or what?

Ah, no . . . This is much too serious for a slight kick of the poodle. By now he has killed him.
Monsiour, somewhere a remote, uncivilized island awaits your exile--and no Louis XVI furnishings allowed. Rest in peace--NOT!

I slept late because we had our FR Christmas party last night, then my wife came & got me out of bed!!
I'm ecstatic, but can you imagine the joy the Iraqis must feel today?

I guess the Fedayeen and bathhist retreads can enjoy an internal power struggle as well as being wiped out by our troops.

I suspect some of those EU countries, in particular France, are scared to death over what may be revealed during future interrogations with SH. Improper arms sales, business deals, aiding and abetting. They would do well to drop this whole unfair reconstruction contract distribution business.

An excellent cartoon summing it up! What continues to amaze me is that a$$holes like John Kerry, just interviewed on tv, are out there saying: "Oh, let's put this all behind us and kiss and make up with France and Germany and Russia. Let them have part of the reconstruction efforts." -- my own words but fairly accurate.
Kerry needs a reality check. It was American lives and those of some allies that were sacrified in behalf of the Iraqis. No Germans, no French, no Russian troops (screw all of these countries). Make up? No way. I'll not spend a dime of U.S. currency on products made by any of them or travel there. And, I hope Americans have a long memory about this.
I hope that when Saddem "sings," we get more info about the contributions France, Germany and Russia made to his regime!
