The New England Journal of Medicine reports that men who smoke risk cutting 7.3 years off their lives. Oxford University's International Journal of Epidimiology, 1997, reports "...Life expectancy at age 20 years for gay and bisexual men is 8 to 20 years less than for all men...nearly half of gay and bisexual men currently aged 20 years will not reach their 65th birthday. Judging by the years at risk, homosexual activity is up to three times deadlier than smoking. Click on the link and you will be directed to where you can click on another link to see the official statistics from the Oxford University international Journal of Epidimiology. At that link you will also other links showing that men who have sex with men are 860% more likely to contract a sexually transmitted disease(STD), INCREASING up to 500% their risk of contracting HIV/AIDS. As well, Between The Lines, Michigan's statewide gay newspaper reports the risk of anal cancer "soars" by nearly 4,000% for men who have sex with men. Pap smears for women have dropped the risk of cervical cancer by 75% , from 40-50 per 100,000 to 8 to 10 per 100,000. Even if a pap smear for gay and bisexual men is ever developed, not looking likely at present, a similiar drop of 75% would still mean that men who have sex with increase their odds of developing anal cancer by 800%. Between The Lines states that a condom only offers limited protection against developing anal cancer.

So, posting under a different title is the moral equivalent of sodomy?

So, posting under a different title is the moral equivalent of sodomy?Ask God. He went out of his way to forbid false witness. He left sodomy to a different less decernible list.

I wonder how the Gay community would react if employers discriminated against them in their hiring practices...the same way some do smokers? If keeping healthcare costs down is an excuse to deny smokers employment, than couldn't the same logic be applied, here? Or maybe homosexuals should have to pay a higher premium to cover their "risky" behaviour. With the attack on smokers and overwieght Americans by health providers and government, it's only fair that those involved in this high-risk behaviour also be held accountable.

It is an issue for the general population. It's no more of an issue than any other public health issue. Less than most.
Washing hands is more of an issue by a huge margin. Care to have government address that legislatively?
If not, I say, lets have a bunch of threads addressing that as a big issue. I haven't seen one on FR yet.

A sad story, and a sad situation. And an even sadder comment on these times. Most of the "Gays" that we see almost nightly on the TV don't seem to be overly concerned about any of these kinds of reports.
So,like the old guy said to me in my younger days :"You buys yer ticket. And ya takes yer ride."
Still holds.

But, politically speaking, it also means fewer (liberal) older voters in the future.... Not necessarily. A gay (not that there's anything wrong with that...) friend of mine said his worst fear was being thought a liberal.

"There were over 14,000 cases of AIDS where the patient received blood products.
Remember that in America the blood is screened and the chances of contracting HIV and subsequent AIDS is very, very, very, very, very low.
So that infers that either the blood screeners are lying about the chances (there aren't too many blood transfusions statistically speaking) or someone or some group is really working overtime to donate blood disproportionate to the general population. "
Scary, scary stuff. Yet, somehow I've never trusted the "It's OK - our blood is 100% trusted" mantra.
14,000 people are testament to this.

Look, if you will read the entire article I posted, you will see that I CLEARLY stated that one had to click on this link and then click to another link to get the article from The Oxford University's International Journal of Epidemiology, where it showed the higher mortality rate for gays. The Oxford address was gigantic in length to type out, hence I used this method for one to get to it. Ther was no preconceived desire on my part to intentionally deceive, so what's the problem? Maybe you don't want this info posted? Is that it? Seeing how you blew a gasket it is apparent that you need to 1.) go decaf, 2.) maybe take a chill pil, and 3.) BACK OFF!

If this is true, then, like cigarettes, gays should be banned from all public restaurants and public buildings/sarcasm
