Page 1 Editorial: Dean’s smear: Will it be ignored?
Union Leader ^ | 12/09/03 | JOSEPH W. McQUAID , Publisher

ANYONE WHO would insinuate that President Bush knew in advance of the Sept. 11 attacks on America would normally be dismissed as a charter member of the lunatic fringe.

But when that person is the leading candidate for the Democratic Party’s Presidential nomination, it is a different situation.

Asked “Why do you think he (Bush) is suppressing that report?” here is what Howard Dean said:

“I don’t know. There are many theories about it. The most interesting theory that I’ve heard so far — which is nothing more than a theory, it can’t be proved — is that he was warned ahead of time by the Saudis. Now who knows what the real situation is?”

What a clever man is Howard Dean! He spreads — on national radio, no less — an out-and-out world-class smear against the President, while being careful to say this “most interesting theory” is just a theory that “can’t be proved.”

Does Dean have any information at all to back up this “theory”? Of course not. He even admits it in the same breath — “it can’t be proved.”

So why bring it up at all? On Sunday, he was asked just that by Fox News.

“Because there are people who believe that,” Dean said.

“Do you believe that?” he was asked.

“No, I don’t believe that. I can’t imagine the President of the United States doing that, but we don’t know and it would be a nice thing to know.”

It would be a nice thing to know if Dean is going to get away with this stuff. Will his fellow Democratic candidates and the news media at tonight’s televised debate on WMUR-TV let him? These are the same people who went ballistic on Dean when he made his crack about seeking the Confederate flag pickup truck support. This is far more serious.

It was a Democratic President of whom it was claimed that he knew all about the attack on Pearl Harbor. Has FDR’s party now stooped so low as to countenance a similar irresponsible charge against the current President by one of its own presumed leaders?

For shame if the answer is yes.

Dean suffers massive character defects and is obviously mentally unstable. He reminds me of the psycho Presidential candidate in the movie version of the Dead Zone.

So what. Being a Democrat means never having to say you're sorry. Or wrong.

Could be. If you ever look at the Democrat boards, that's exactly the guy they want, the kind who would use a child as a human shield and also happens to be Martin Sheen.

No one of these candidates should make charges they can't back up with facts. No one of these candidates should complain about the current administration or its policies unless they have a better plan, or a track record of opposition.

What I can't figure out is why Gore might support Dean. Does he just have bad judgement, as with choosing Lieberman (for heavens sake, choose someone who will bring in some states) or is their some kind of deep-seated plan to have a reason for the Dems to want to lose?

I keep writing it...Dean as the nominee is not a good idea. The odds of him winning before he ends up in the loony bin are miniscule, but is it worth the risk?

Precisely.

Dean = Martin Sheen of the Dead Zone.

I so wish someone would ask the President about Dean at Planned Parenthood and Bush would reply: “I don’t know. There are many theories about it. The most interesting theory that I’ve heard so far — which is nothing more than a theory, it can’t be proved — is that Dean not only performed abortions, he also raped three girls while they sedated for the procedure. One of them apparently died, it is not clear whether due to negligent procedures during the abortion or the physical trauma of the rape. Now who knows what the real situation is?”

Bingo. Perfect. It is time we turned this tactic around on them. This is the same thing Katie Couric does with her..."Some are saying..." tactic.

Perhaps it's a personal thing and he wants to spit on the Klintons...

Nah. Dean's just the only one with the same pathological, red-faced, sputtering hatred for Bush that Gore not-so-secretly harbors.

The key part of their tactic is to make two charges...one even more outrageous than the last. That way the 'moderately' outrageous charge (in this case abortion) is accepted while the focus is on the even more extreme (rape).

The communists are experts at shifting the 'moderate' position steadily left. Witness prescription drugs.

'Ya Know (to coin a phrase)'ya know all the democratic hopefuls are running their campaigns on Bush Bashing and little else. Their lies are blatant and often and pathetic. Not one of them comes across as a leader and Dean’s (were is Mrs. Dean?) tongue slips/lies more and more – he is not even a little trustworthy. It is about character – ‘ya know..............

The entire Dem party has morphed
into Julianne Malveaux.

A column about Kerry that I saw
today said his latest foreign &
military policy pronouncements
sounded like Kucinich on PCP!

LOL

Some say Dean's madness is making
all of them sick. I agree.

But the pathology of the Clinton
and Gore team started the ball
rolling.

Now, if only I could explain po'
ol' Jimmy Carter.....

Dean accuses others of his own party's evil deeds. Clinton freed Faln and let Saddam and BinLaden run around. FDR also knew about PerlHArbor...

In fact Dean is clutering the airwaves with irrelevant negative politics and has no policy nor a clue about what to do with terrorists.
