The fraud that is OU Football exposed tonight - USC and LSU should meet for the championship
dateline: Texas Stadium | 12/6/03 | Jamail Holloway's fur coat at the Orange Bowl

Posted on 12/06/2003 8:28:52 PM PST by Diddle E. Squat

Congrats to K. State, Big 12 Champs. They spanked the pompous overrated Sooners 35-7 tonight in the Big 12 Championship game. Meanwhile USC and LSU continued to roll with big wins(52-28 and 34-13(with 3 minutes left, respectively.)

No way should OU be chosen by the BCS to play in the Sugar Bowl, the pollsters and computers should drop them hard to at least #3(Michigan is probably better, but they do have 2 losses.) What a fraud the BCS is, can anyone reasonable prove that OU is better than LSU and USC, both of who have dominated late in the season? Yet just like with Nebraska a few years ago, OU will probably back in based on bogus prior rankings, overrated hype, and a scam of a system.

OU didn't just lose, they got their butts whooped. If they had lost by just a few points, one could make a decent argument that perhaps they below in the mythical national championship game. But not after this lame performance, and the impressive play of USC and LSU in the last month. 2 teams are going up, 1 is going down. But once again, the BCS is probably going to show how utterly bogus it is. Besides, I'd say its 50-50 that right now Michigan could beat them all, just as with USC the year before.

Without a playoff, its all just figure skating.

Here is the real BCS nightmare:

1. USC kills Michigan
2. LSU and OU play to 6-3 in OT
3. There is a split NC or USC finishes #1 in both polls with all first place votes.

"Tailgating is better at LSU."

Hey, I've just been trying to remain unbiased...I'm a born and bred Cajun from Ville Platte.

I watched LSU beat Clemson in the Sugar Bowl in 1958 to win the "Championship." Of course I was only 12 so I wasn't an expert.

Over the last 45 years LSU disappoints over and over again, maybe...just maybe this it a Bayou year!

Geaux Bayou Bengals!!!

P.S. On 1/4/04 there will be Chicken and Andoille Sausage Gumbo at the Positive PLace...not enough room for those who won't watch the game seriously but room for those who would...let me know. Orange Country Kalifornia.

Michigan with two losses would never happen when you have two once beaten teams in the Sugar. But I agree with you a dominating win by USC in the Rose and tight low scoring lackluster game in the Sugar would definately invalidate the BCS and that wouldn't make me unhappy one bit. We need a playoff.

The BCSEC is a joke! There is no way a Pac-10 or West Coast team can get into the NC due to SEC and SWC bias. Until there is an 8 game playoff the BCS will be nothing but a beauty contest. This is exactly the same as NE against Miami 2 yrs ago. Any team outside FL, SEC and SWC has no chance unless undefeated...fat chance!

Be heartened read Post #117. This will probably be the outcome. It's better to have 1/2 an NC than none.

The conference championship should mean something, dammit!

Tell that to the last two World Series champions, neither of which won their divisions. How can a team claim to be "World Champion" when they don't even finish first in their division?

I'm a Big Ten backer through and through, and wish my alma mater (Minnesota) had played some real teams in non-conference to perhaps get a better bowl. But I'm rooting for USC in the Rose Bowl because I would love to see them win the AP National Championship and also see BCS die an inglorious death in one stroke. It's a joke.

Thanks. I'm still recovering, even though the handwriting was on the wall at the Coliseum yesterday when they announced the Notre Dame score.

LSU deserves to be in it. They earned their shot. They played well, peaked at the same time, and beat a very good team in the Georgia Bulldogs, twice in one year no less, a very difficult thing to accomplish.

On the other hand, Oklahoma belongs in the Punch Bowl. They choked in their biggest game of the season. No surprise Bob Stoops didn't show up at the BCS press conference today. He's too embarrassed.

As for me, I'll be in Pasadena on January 1, when the Trojans take it all. And everyone knows we will. We may not be the BCS winner at the end of the season. We'll just have to settle to be the best.

And next year, we'll have to look for new and improved ways for that slimey little ferret Mike Tranghese of the Big East/BCS to screw USC out of its rightful place at the top of the heap.

Two things you can count on next year:

1. USC will be the first unanimous national champion since the Trojans did it in 1972.

2. The BCS will find some way to keep their east coast boys club closed.

The BCSEC is a joke!

You mean the Bogus Computer Scam? Put together by a bunch of east coast hacks for the benefit of east coast football.

So what happened to oklahoma? Why did they lose so big and don't you think they are demoralized. It was pitiful to see.

They ran into a very physical football team in Kansas State with a mobile quarterback who can throw. Ell Roberson got hot at exactly the right time, while at the same time OU was sitting on its collective laurels and planning the menu on Bourbon Street on January 4.

I'm sure there will be something exciting to watch on January 4, like the replay of the 1972 Bobby Fischer - Boris Spassky International Chess Championship.

Beats the hell of the the Boring Ccomputer Scam game any day of the week.

TCU wouldnt have finished in the top 5 of any of the major 6 conferences..

Right. Except Miami, OH and Boise State can play with anyone. Boise beat San Jose St by 50 while Ohio State barely won. Miami beat Bowling Green twice decisively while Ohio State barely won and BG beat Purdue.

The Trojans will be pissed too and will drill the Wolverines

Have to agree with you. Ohio State has a truely pathetic offense, ranked about 100 out of 110 divison I teams I think. Even so Ohio shredded the UM defense as did Oregon. USC will score 45-50. The UM offense is also very good, but not good enough.

Here is the real BCS nightmare

The real BCS could have been nightmare would have been if OSU had beaten Wisconsin. OSU did play a really tough schedule and I think the Sugar Bowl could have been #3 Oklahoma against #4 OSU with both teams getting embarrassed in their last regular season games.

bray - bray - bray, you're starting to sound like Howard Dean who was ranting about the Soviet Union the other day.

Assuming SWC means South West Conference, well that ceased to exist several years ago also.

The AP Poll consists of approximately 60 Sports Journalists, and the ESPN/USAToday Poll consists of about 60 coaches, where do you think these writers and coaches come from? Louisiana? Oklahoma?

My guess is there are more votes from the PAC 10, Big 10 (although there are 11 teams in the Big 10) and the Big East.

The computers probably all come from Silicon Valley in Kalifornia.

So where do you get this bias business?

You call me CommieDean again and I am going to kick your A..!! If your a man you'll appologize for that cheap shot. Of the 60 voters most likely 40-45 of them are east of the Mississippi and only watch games east of the Rockies. They assume there is no FB outside of the south and the Big 10.

Well USC ended up #1 on both polls and got left out again just like Oregon was left out 2 years ago. The BCS was developed by the Commissioner of the SEC and has coincidentally been very good for them and horrible for the Pac 10 and Big 10. We should opt out and go back to the original Rose Bowl which this year will be a better game. Enjoy the imaginary NC since I am not watching another second place team playing for the NC!

I speak literally sometimes. Howard Dean made several present tense references to the Soviet Union in a speach a week or two ago. As you might know the Soviet Union has been gone for 10 years or so. In your comment you mentioned the SWC or South West Conference which has also been gone for a few years. Thus the "sound like" reference to Dean. I didn't call you Dean or CommieDean for that matter.

If you are so thin skinned that you can't take a little joke like that, I don't think you would have much luck trying to kick my A.!! whatever that is.

As for the two human polls, I have no idea who they are but it would be interesting information. I do know that it is very unlikely that the coaches see much of the other teams except for those that they meet, so most college football fans could probably be more well informed than the coaches. But then there is that bias thing, it sounds like you'd always vote for a team West of the Rockies for example.

Let's look at a comparison of USC and LSU shall we?

USC 11-1
LSU 12-1

Common opponents

Auburn
USC 23-0
LSU 31-7 (LSU took a knee at the Auburn 2 when time ran out.

Arizona
USC 45-0
LSU 59-13 (the LSU first team played only one series of downs in the second half.)

Points Scored Per Game
USC 42.2 (6th in the Nation)
LSU 34.9 (14th in the Nation)

Points allowed Per Game
USC 18.8 (18th in the Nation)
LSU 10.8 (1st in the Nation)

Yardage Per Game
USC 450.7 (#17 in the Nation)
LSU 426.7 (#26 in the Nation)

Yardage Allowed Per Game
USC 337.8 (#33 in the Nation)
LSU 259.5 (#2 in the Nation)

Pass Interceptions
USC 21 (6th in Nation)
LSU 19 (8th in Nation)

Fumbles Recovered
USC 2 (#33 in the Nation)
LSU 12 (#7 in the Nation)

Passes Blocked by Defense
USC 5 (#44 in the Nation)
LSU 69 (#1 in the Nation)

Sacks by Defense
USC 4 (#39 in the Nation)
LSU 43 (#3 in the Nation)

Punting Average Yardage
USC 49.2 (#1 in the Nation)
LSU 42.9 (#30 in the Nation)

I don't know how the Strengh of Schedule number is computed but I read that LSU beating #5 Georgia and USC beating unranked Oregon State along with Notre Dame and Hawaii (USC victories)both losing on Satuday was the reason that LSU passed USC in the BCS Rankings. That is to say that LSU had a tougher schedule than USC.

But do you hear me whining that since LSU played a tougher schedule and had better stats overall and the same number of losses, that LSU should be #1 in the Human Bowls?

BTW - no hard feelings. BTW2 if you should look up LSU's schedule and see that they played Western Illinois, note that they are a highly ranked 1-AA team, but 1-AA teams don't count in the BCS Ranking system...that game counts the same as a bye week...unless of course LSU had lost, then the Human Polls would have taken an awful toll on LSU.

Yah, but none of those 1-loss teams took a benefitless trip to Autzen. Some loses are flukes, sometimes the gods of football play dice. This is why we need a playoff.

I never realized I was speaking to such a FB genius. Do you really think FB is rocket science?? Who said LSU didn't belong in the game?? My point is that OK does not belong when they lose their last game of the season and get smoked. Sports is not played on a computer or by your logic The Yankees are the World Series Champions because they were the strongest team on paper. We CFB purests want to see the best two teams in the country and those are LSU and USC. Can you honestly say that OK is a better team than KSU?? There needs to be a playoff! And I would be a bit more careful calling too many Conservatives Nakita Dean, way too low a shot even for the thickest skin.

OK, OK - I'll take what I said back. But I insist that if you re-read what I said; I didn't call you any sort of Dean, I just compared your recognition of an extinct college football conference to Dean's recognition of an extinct governmental regime.

I never realized I was speaking to such a FB genius.

I'm certainly no football (assuming you meant football when you typed FB) genius, but I am professionally adept at statistical analysis, and I'm an avid fan.

I have not analyzed Oklahoma's stats...LSU will solve that problem one way or the other.

I did look closely at USC's stats because I thought I would learn yesterday that the Sugar Bowl would be LSU-USC, and as I am a betting man, I find that my heart often misleads me. (I'm a former LSU player and LSU grad.)

No Problem, your LSU grad secret is safe with me! You must be sky high for LSU right now. I grew up in Eugene and have followed the Ducks since I was a kid and graduated hippie U and have season tix. CFB is the greatest sport ever except for one large obvious problem....NO PLAYOFF!!! Go Ducks, Go Tiggers
