Impact of the Consular Registration in Arizona

Phoenix, Arizona, U.S., December 6, 2003 (quepasa.com) - Although it is difficult for the United States government to admit Consular Registration as valid since it is issued by the Mexican government to is citizens residing in North America, the truth is that almost 90 per cent of cities in Arizona, just to give an example, already accept this document as valid ID.

It is precisely thanks to the number of newly opened savings accounts rising from 2002 to the present in the state, explained Mexican Consul General in Phoenix, Rubén Beltrán, as he referred to the fact that there is really much widespread acceptance of this identification document, notwithstanding that the federal government has not given it official recognition.

As to this, he further explained, the identification issued by the government of Mexico to its nationals residing in the United States, is accepted in over 300 cities and counties, as well as by more than 200 banks and private institutions, among them is Wells-Fargo, a company that provides financial services and handles the largest number of money remittances to Latin America.

Not too long ago, the company's branch offices in Phoenix and Nogales, Arizona decided to accept Consular Registration as a valid identification document - benefiting some 200 thousand Mexicans - just as Austin, Texas, the pioneer in giving this recognition, by virtue of which more than 200 accounts were opened.

In addition, pointed out Beltrán, the same thing has happened in many states of the Union that have a high rate of Mexican population, such as Nevada, New Mexico, Illinois and California, among others, therefore we trust that this recognition will spread to other cities in North America.

Based on the results of this same experience, such as the opening of internal savings accounts, he explained that maybe the best suggestion is to call on more cities to join in giving recognition to Consular Registration, in spite of the reticence of the United States federal government.

Beltrán mentioned that the State Department of North America has its reserves about said document, but that in reality, the Mexican government is scrutinizing every application that requests Consular Registration very rigorously, so as to increase security elements making it something impossible to forge.

Nevertheless, the Homeland Security Department of the United States is reticent about the whole idea, following the attempts suffered on September 11, 2001, which explains the controversy with the Mexican government surrounding the recognition of an official identification document issued by it. Oh, "reticent."

Good to know that Homeland Security is finally getting tough on Illegals, and also the conduit their presence provides for terrorists, gangsters, smugglers, and money launderers.

He's pretty active in promoting this. You see his name in the paper all the time in Phoenix.

The Mexican government must be happy with his work. He's being reassigned to head up the consulate in Los Angeles.

How is he not an agent of a hostile foreign power? I'd have these turds declared PNG and shipped out ASAP. Imagine a US official in Mexico doing this in reverse! He'd be in prison.

The US Govt. may well be collecting info on illegals from banks, etc., using this documentation, which brings them out of the woodwork into daylight. This may explain their reticence. OTH, it may not.

Well, you should give credit where credit is due. Reticent is better than willing, able, and happy in MHO. ;-)

90% of Arizona cities accept the Matricula Consular, eh? Using what measurement? Population? That means Phoenix and Tucson are all that's needed...the rest of us don't count.

I'll guarantee you that by number, a whole lot less than 90% accept the card. I doubt that 90% of the cities and towns that make up our two metro areas accept them...and there's a whole lot more of Arizona outside of Phoenix and Tucson.

As far as I am concerned, the United States no longer exists. There is a loose federation of American states that can claim as much citizenship in the US as you and I do. While you and I don't recognize them as having that right, our leaders sure do.

This makes me quite angry, but I don't know what there is we can do about it. Big business, the Mexican and US governments are driving this and we're going to be road kill before we stop it.

The nation we are handing off to our youth will not be a sovereign one. Hell, it isn't now.

I will always wonder what kind of devil's deal was made between George W. Bush and Vicente Fox. There is no other explanation for the fact that America is being invaded by a third world hellhole without firing a shot, and that American taxpayers are being forced to pay for it.

Good grief. Perhaps Arizona should take on the name "New Mexico" while New Mexico will be referred to as "Just Hanging On".
Quite sick of our government allowing any "consular" schemes as they're only about circumventing U.S. law. Now all the other Central and South American countries want in on the cut.
If Mexico's scam isn't stopped they will have precedence. The rest of the third-world anxiously awaits their chance to sluff their dross on us, also.

You have to wonder --- no one much listens to Vicente Fox in Mexico --- he hasn't passed any "reforms" ---- but I doubt he's tried very hard. He seems to be taken very seriously by our politicians though --- whatever he says must go --- in this country.
