New Democrat Network launches anti-Bush ad

In a move aimed at blunting President Bush’s appeal to Hispanic voters, the New Democrat Network (NDN) today will launch two commercials on Spanish-language television stations questioning his commitment to the Latino community.

The message of the 30-second commercials, which will run in Orlando, Florida and Las Vegas, Nevada for two and half weeks, is that Bush has not kept the promise he made during the 2000 campaign to be a friend of the Hispanic community.

“Historically, the Latino community has prospered by embracing the Democrat’s opportunity agenda,” said NDN President Simon Rosenberg. “In the 90s, Latinos thrived. In this decade, they have taken steps backward. These ads remind Latino who their true friends are.”

The first commercial, “Cambio,” (change), features a Hispanic man reading a newspaper with the headline “Latinos Applaud Democratic Agenda.”

He sees a group of children entering a school building covered with graffiti and imagines a clean one. He looks at members of a street gang and sees them happily playing soccer. He gazes at a shopkeeper in front a rundown store and envisions a revitalized business.

In the second commercial, “Broken Promises,” a Hispanic schoolgirl asks the president why he did not invest $18 billion for the poorest schools, as he said he would.

The money was included in the No Child Left Behind Act enacted in 2002. But Bush’s 2004 budget proposed only $12.4 billion for the portion of the act that NDN said funds a majority of Latino children who attend public schools.

The commercials are part of “Democratas Unidos,” a multiyear project designed to help Democrats reach out to the Hispanic community. The NDN will use feedback from the ad campaign for a larger Hispanic advertising effort next year.

Founded in 1996, NDN has helped elect 50 Democrats to the Senate and House.

Umm. How did they thrive? They were b*tching about the same things in the 90s as they are now, only the media didn't cover it then, because there was a D in the White House.

In the second commercial, “Broken Promises,” a Hispanic schoolgirl asks Tom Daschle why he wouldn't allow a vote on Miguel Estrada for the Federal Appeal Court, as he said he would.

"Todays Undemocratic Party...if they don't like the majority opinion, they won't allow you to vote."

Just like back home in Mexico!!!

EXACTLY! The GOP should counter with an ad that has the Democrats blocking Estrada because...according to the secret memo, he's Hispanic. It's time to start using the Dems tactics against them and see how they like it. If not the GOP, then let's get some of these special interest groups running them. The Hispanic community is a very family oriented and religious group and it shouldn't take much to make them see what the Democrats...and their platation attitude, wants to do for them. The libs just can't afford to have successful republican minorities in positions of power and influence. My wifes sees right through it.

"Founded in 1996, NDN has helped elect 50 Democrats to the Senate and House." Do they mean that they saved someone who might have lost their election ro that they helped those people in gerimandered districts? Last time I looked, since 2000, RATS have lost seats every time in three elections.
