November 27, 2003 -- Joseph Dunn, a Democrat senator from California, reacting to a book by some flaming leftist California academic, is part of a movement to pay reparations for a 1930s mass deportation of California Latinos to Mexico.
A class action lawsuit has been filed on behalf of those expatriated against their will, and on behalf of their survivors.
The PBS News Hour segment on this subject showed trainloads of Mexican nationals and Latino-American citizens being put on trains and locked inside until they crossed the border into Mexico.
The segment narrator expressly pointed out that federal agents were involved, but was distinctly indistinct as to the time period.
We think we know why, and the reason is undeniable proof of the Oregon Magazine contention that from Ken Burns Congress to the News Hour, PBS programming is a rape of history, a generic journalistic ripoff and a source of misinformation of such dimensions that all public support for the network should cease immediately....(Snip)

PBS programming is a rape of history, a generic journalistic ripoff and a source of misinformation of such dimensions that all public support for the network should cease immediatelyIt sure is! Why are American taxpayers paying for this type of liberal crap ???
Charity from it's followers is one thing, but forcing the good folks to support it is outright facism!
DEFUND PBS and NPR. Let them support themselves like the rest of the media.

Funny, I've been thinking lately that a mass deportation is just what our nation needs.

From what I can find on the subject, a million or more people of Mexican descent were forcibly deported to Mexico in the 1930s
without regard to their citizenship, in order to make sure that "real Americans" would get whatever jobs were available there during the Depression. The estimates I've seen place anywhere from 50-60% of the deportees as citizens. A lot of those folks (or their kids) are still alive.
There may be a liberal spin to the documentary (I dunno, not having seen it), but it's quite historically factual that these deportations happened. Merely bringing it to light can hardly be classified as "liberal."
Deport all the illegals you want - hell, I'll even help load 'em in the vans. Start deporting citizens in the name of some bigoted crap, and we have a big problem.

I'm with you, Snidely.
It seems to be "all or nothing" with our government all too often. We need to start enforcing immigration laws...seems simple to me. We need to stop handing out Social Security to illegals. Consider the petition to reform Social Security disability.

The point, Snidely, is that the PBS ultra-liberal take on the deportations was that they were done by the federal government and were horrible!
But PBS did NOT mention that those deportations were done at the orders of the most fascist/socialist president America has ever had -- Franklin D. Roosevelt, with the connivance of a Democratic-party-dominated Congress.
Hispanics, when they think about which party to vote for, should keep this bit of history in mind.
Those were U.S. citizens that FDR ran out of the country.

Anyone who can call FDR a socialist/facist is okay is my book, WD. You're tops!

You would have loved my granddad, Miss Annie. He pinpointed the U.S. descent into socialism as beginning with FDR. Not hard to pinpoint, actually, but he didn't share the enchantment with FDR at the time or since. Grandad also got thrown out of the University of Michigan med school a year or two before WWI for carrying a case of beer across the campus!

Thanks, annie. When I read the book "FDR's Follies" it was an eye-opener! The historian said that in private, FDR and his cronies had a great admiration for Mussolini's taking control of business in Italy and wanted to set up the same system here!
And I'd never heard of those Latino deportations until I read this article! But I'm not surprised that the fascist PBS didn't mention that it was FDR's little game!

For a flaky liberal infested state, your Oregon magazine publishes several interesting articles. Of course, I think the review your wrote on Ann Coulter's book exceeded the excellence normally found in this magazine's publishings.

The deportations were started in 1930, at the direction of Herbert Hoover, who was most definitely not a Democrat or liberal. Federal deportation efforts lasted until 1933, the year Franklin Roosevelt became President, but state and local officials did continue deportations throughout the 1930s.

This is just another example of the left spinning the truth, often by simply omitting the facts.
Who was in charge of the interment camps, or the mass deportation of citizens?
Which party passed the Civil Rights Act?
Which party endorsed the Emancipation Proclamation?
