In a demoralizing message to U.S. soldiers serving in Iraq, visiting New York Sen. Hillary Clinton told them that Americans back home are growing increasingly skeptical of President Bush's decision to send them into battle.

Describing two meetings with G.I.s over turkey dinners in Baghdad, Sen. Clinton told reporters later that soldiers wanted to know "how the people at home feel about what we are doing."

Clinton said she told the troops, "Americans are wholeheartedly proud of what you are doing but there are many questions at home about the (Bush) administration's policies."

She also suggested that the U.S. could eventually loose the war in Iraq, contending, "We have to exert all of our efforts militarily, but the outcome is not assured."

Despite her sour pronouncements, the former first lady insisted that the soldiers were just as glad to see her as they were President Bush, whose surprise visit less than 24-hours earlier was greeted with standing ovations.

"It's a positive for the commander-in-chief to visit troops in the field," Clinton told reporters, adding, "the troops [also] seemed to appreciate seeing myself."

Speaking from a secure location just over the Kuwaiti border, Mrs. Clinton launched one verbal salvo after another at the White House, arguing that Bush officials had been "obsessed" with getting Saddam Hussein and saying the perception blinded them to the difficulties of deposing his regime.

"The Pentagon tried to make do with as few troops as possible, as light a footprint as they could get away with," Clinton said. "Now, we're playing catchup . . . Unfortunately, I don't think they fully appreciated the conditions we would encounter."

The top Democrat also reprised her charge that the White House is being less than candid when it comes to apprising the American people of the costs of the war.

"The obstacles and problems here are much greater than the administration usually admits to," she said, adding, "Everybody has to be honest."

Notice how the Bushes actually touch each other. Contrast that to the Demons from Dogpatch.

I see that. Doesn't Bill just look like a Bubba in a too-small tux?

If I controlled the RNC, I'd be running an ad saying "Bush went to Iraq to build up morale. Democrat Senator Clinton went to Iraq to tear it down. Remember that went you vote next year."

Well, I wish you would run. Once, just ONCE, I'd like to see a strong response to this woman's despicable tactics. Is that really asking so much?

"This is a time to pop a beer, really."

I woke up with a minor hangover this morning. After reading this, I think I'll just start slamming beers again! :)

Tough isn't the word for it. I'm looking forward to reading all the creative suggestions on this thread!

Perhaps she had just seen an Austin Powers movie,
"Allow myself to introduce myself"

Comparing those photos is interesting. With the Clintons, the focus seems to be more on the tree and not them. They aren't touching each other at all. They look uncomfortable and unnatural.

With GW and Laura, the focus is on them, not the tree. They are in close contact and holding hands. They look very comfortable and natural. It shows what complete opposites they are.

(the tree is prettier in GW's photo as well)

"Another trait the Clinton's have in common, Milton found, is their ability to avoid the truth. "They both lie, even when they don't have to," Milton told CNS. "

Chad- this is sociopathic/psychopathic behavior. Folks like this are known to associate with one another. I don't think it a stretch to diagnose them as such. What I cannot figure out is why the press enables both of them.

The Press enable them because the Press believes that the Clintons have teh same agenda as the liberal press, not realizing that the Clinton Agenda, which may in some ways coincide with the media's, is actually an agenda of being out for themselves, regardless of what damage it does...

Until the media realizes that, they will continue to enable them.

I heard Laura Ingraham's "Lie of the Day" song playing in my head when I read those words!!

Sorry, didn't see the definition of treason posted before I did it.

I didn't read very far down the thread before posting that, but figured someone must have done so before I got around to it!

If this isn't the definition of the word, I don't know what is.

It's one thing for Sean Penn to go to Iraq and spout his nonsense, but when a US Senator does so, she should be fired at the very least.

Exceptin' that they were Republicans, weren't they? It was SHE who went to the dark side. I have always pitied her parents, much like I have always pitied Chelsea. None of them could very well help their situations.

No .. only her father was, her mother was in name only

If you get a chance, read "Hell to Pay" by Barbara Olsen. She did an excellent job in describing Hellary's earlier years and her activism years in college

In the book, it mentions many times Hellary referring to her mother as loving and her father as a hard core conservative ... IMO, she has major issues with her dad

What's a good website for sending messages to the soldiers? I'd like to send along my personal good wishes, thanks and encouragement... and make it clear that most Americans do not agree with gloomy assessments of the war effort.

Great idea!

Send email messages to our troops at Operation Dear Abby.

Books For Soldiers lists names and addresses of many servicemembers who are deployed and the specific books they would like to receive. (I'm sure they would appreciate anything sent to them - especially supportive letters from back home. I like to print out the Support our Troops Rally threads and include those with an encouraging note.) Be sure to check out the Operation Forgotten Soldier section, which lists troops who don't get mail from home. They need our support most of all.
