It was an historic Thansgiving for Americans, especially those courageously defending our security in Iraq. President George W. Bush successfully completed a secret mission. He went into the belly of the beast, where a plane was shot down with a missle just a few days ago, and had dinner with those who are his heroes.
From the cesspool of the Bush-hating political left, the screams of "cheap shameless photo-op" were all too predictable. But, as usual, they are wrong. Those who still gain daily sustenance from democRAT Kool-aid, are outraged. Their blind hatred of a genuine and decent man still has them reeling.
They should, however, know something about a cheap sleazy photo-op. For Hillary, the classic is the time she visited the children's cancer ward and would not be photographed with sickly children who had lost their hair and had tubes in them. No, her photo-op was with the healthy children of the staff that they brought in for story time.
For Bill, the classic was at Normandy when he made a cross out of rocks on the beach and looked reverently out at a ship. Their are no rocks on that beach. They were left for him to make the cross. It was totally phony, as was everything about the Clinton presidency. He had inheirited a rebounding economy and was lucky to be on an economic upswing.
Was Bush's photo-op with the troops a cynical political trick used to boost his re-election chances?
If you know anything about the man, the question is very easy to answer. He is genuine and he is decent. His belief in God has given him the strength to recognize the evil that we face. He will not allow that evil to grow and dump it in the lap of his successor.
You could see it is in face. Clinton could cry on cue, as he did at the Ron Brown funeral. If you see a tear in Dubya's eye, you know it is real. I had a first hand experience with that almost two years ago when I was lucky enough to give him a message at the townhall meeting in Ontario, CA. When I told him that my son-in-law and the entire crew of the USS ENTERPRISE was honored to call him their commander in chief, he had to hold back tears. We saw that today in the ovation he received from the men and women when they first caught sight of him.
Much to the chagrin of his conservative base, Bush has done many things that have caused displeasure. He is definitely less conservative and spends more money than I would like him to spend. Those who wail about his "right wing" agenda are politically posturing. They should be ashamed of themselves but, of course, they are not. They want power. That is all that matters in this world to them.
This president has earned the respect of the men. He will make decisions based on our national interest, not whether they will produce him more votes. The left is that cynical. He is not.
The "photo-op" today did some important things that will prove their value in the near future. In a time when the other side of the aisle is publicly criticizing the commander in chief during time of war, he gave the troops a much needed morale boost. The effect cannot be underestimated. And it sent a clear message to our enemies. No, not the DemocRAT enemies, the Islamofascist terrorists. He told them that we have a mission to complete, and we will never cut and run. Those smelly, disheveled, hopelessly naive and dangerous street protestors are not going to get their way. This president will not bow to their pressure.
President Bush would like to serve another four years to continue the war on terror that he has so clearly defined and so clearly understands. But that is not why he went to Baghdad. If he enacts policies that risk re-election but are good for the country, he will always choose good for the country.
We knew Bill Clinton. George Bush is no Bill Clinton.
May God, grant wisdom, comfort, and edurance to our commander in chief.

Not exactly shot down, but certainly shot at, hit, wing damaged and managed to land safely; I get your point though ...
Our countrymen and women over there are surely re-moralized by such a trip, it is a grand thing to have done -- photo op or not. It is a trip that saves lives, for any duty in the presences of danger and mortal risk, keeping up one's spirit makes THE difference in judgment and observation.
AMEN! well said.
