A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day
Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997. Over 100,000 people have registered for posting privileges on Free Republic, and the forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.
A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day was introduced on June 24, 2002. It's only a small room in JimRob's house where we can get to know one another a little better; salute and support our military and our leaders; pray for those in need; and congratulate those deserving. We strive to keep our threads entertaining, fun, and pleasing to look at, and often have guest writers contribute an essay, or a profile of another FReeper.
On Mondays please visit us to see photos of A FEW OF FR'S VETERANS AND ACTIVE MILITARY
If you have a suggestion, or an idea, or if there's a FReeper you would like to see featured, please drop one of us a note in FR mail.
We're having fun and hope you are!

From The Loxahatchee River Historical Society, Jupiter, Florida Website:
The Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse is the oldest existing structure in Palm Beach County, FL. It was completed and first lit on July 10, 1860. The lighthouse stands on an ancient Indian shell mound, dated around 700 AD and is 108 feet high with 105 steps from the base to the top.
The light was produced by a first order Fresnel lens made by the Henry-Lepaute Company in Paris. The rotating lens flashes (burst of light when bulls-eye passes viewer's line of vision) is 1.2 seconds, eclipses (darkens) 6.6 seconds, flashes 1.2 seconds, eclipses 21 seconds, and then repeats the cycle. The light can be viewed approximately 20 miles out at sea.
George Gordon Meade, a Lieutenant at the Bureau of Topographical Engineers and later the general who defeated Robert E. Lee at Gettysburg, designed the Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse. Work began on the mound in 1853, but slowed when the inlet filled with silt, the Third Seminole War erupted from 1855 to 1858, and Florida's notorious heat, humidity, and insects took their toll on the workmen.
After the light was lit in 1860, a group of Confederate sympathizers, including some of the Lighthouse Keepers, sneaked into the tower and removed enough of the lamp and revolving mechanism to make it unserviceable. Throughout the war, the light remained dark.
After the war, sections of the lens assembly were returned, and the light once again beamed on June 28, 1866. Captain James Armour became the lighthouse keeper and would serve for forty-two years.
During World War II, it was necessary for wartime safety to dim the lighthouse through the use of a low-wattage bulb. Several ships were sunk offshore, and the sad duty of recovering the bodies as they washed ashore fell to the Lighthouse Keepers.
In 1959, the two-story Lighthouse Keeper's dwelling was torn down and new quarters were built. In 1973, the Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse was put on the National Register of Historic Places. For a number of years, the Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse was painted a "firehouse" red, but during the 1999 restoration, the tower's color was returned to the natural red brick. The work on the tower took 8 months and cost $850,000.
The Loxahatchee River Historical Society administers the Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse. The lighthouse is owned and maintained as an active maritime aid to navigation by the U.S. Coast Guard.

Light the Fire Again (click) by Brian Doerksen
Don't let my love grow cold I'm calling out, light the fire again Don't let my vision die I'm calling out, light the fire again
You know my heart, my deeds I'm calling out, light the fire again I need your discipline I'm calling out, light the fire again
I am here to buy gold refined in the fire Naked and poor, wretched and blind I come Clothe me in white So I won't be ashamed Lord, light the fire again

Thank you for praying for the troops and Kenny. It's the very least any of us can do. I am so grateful to what all of our service people past and present have done and continue to do to preserve our freedoms.
I also pray that the "peaceniks" find the intelligence to see how wrong their actions are.

Comic Relief...
What to do if you happen upon a peace rally. In order to diplomatically teach them why force is sometimes required please follow these simple diplomatic directions:
Approach a person talking about "peace" saying that there should be, "no retaliation."
Engage him in brief conversation, ask if military force is appropriate.
When he says "No," ask, "Why not?"
Wait until he says something to the effect of, "Because that would just cause more innocent deaths, which would be awful and we should not cause more death or violence. " Or " America has brought this on itself, given its imperialist actions and has angered the people of......( what ever country?)
When he's in mid sentence, punch him in the face as hard as you can.
When he gets back up to punch you, point out that it would be a mistake and contrary to his values to strike you, because that would, "be awful and he should not cause more violence." In addition, tell him that his "actions angered you and that he brought it on himself."
Wait until he agrees that he has pledged not to commit additional violence and the reason you punched him was mostly his fault.
Punch him in the face again, harder this time.
Repeat steps 5 through 8 until he understands that sometimes it is necessary to punch back!

Be Thankful Everyday
Even though I clutch my blanket and growl
when the alarm rings each morning
Thank you Lord, that I can hear.
There are those who are deaf.
Even though I keep my eyes tightly closed
against the morning lights as long as possible,
Thank you Lord, that I can see
There are those who are blind.
Even though I huddle in my bed,
and put off the physical effort of rising,
Thank you Lord, that I have the strength to rise,
There are many who are bedfast.
Even though the first hour of my day is hectic,
when socks are lost, toast is burned, and tempers are short,
Thank you Lord, for my family.
There are many who are lonely.
Even though our breakfast table never looks like the pictures
in the ladies magazines,
And the menu is at times unbalanced,
Thank you, Lord, for the food we have.
There are many who are hungry.
Even though the routine
of my job is often monotonous
Thank you Lord, for the opportunity to work.
There are many who have no work.
Even though I grumble and bemoan
My fate from day to day,
And wish my modest circumstances
Were not quite so modest,
I thank you Lord, for the gift of life.
