It is interesting that most people want him to feel something... I can't tell you how true it is that he needs to feel something... It is too late for him to understand the consequences of his actions but this brings me back to something I heard once..."True evil is the complete lack of empathy!" I will wonder for quite some time what makes a person kill an innocent person they do not know from a distance (that may be a combination of cowardice and hostility)...

Well, we will have plenty of opportunities to discuss it... I do have the feeling that as time goes by, Mr. Muhammad is going to come to Jesus... It is just sad that so many people had to die for his enlightenment....

Yes, the actual car, and a mock-up are here for both the Muhammad and Malvo trials. Evidence was presented in the sentencing phase of the Muhammad trial that maps with "good locations" in the Hampton Roads area were found in the snipers' possession. Both had intended to continue their reign of terror down here.

His next appeal will be that he had ineffective counsel in the initial phases of his trial, and thus had to fire his first counsel (HIMSELF!!!!), so he is appealing that he was a stupid counsel, ineffective, and thus got him, the client, convicted!!!!

His attorney objected, the judge strongly advised against it, and he would have to prove (once convicted, the burden shifts to him) that during the brief time that he acted in his own defense (and I believe his attorneys were still available and provided counsel), he did something that irreparably damaged his case... Without that, he is (what is that we like to spread jelly on in the morning? Oh! Yes!) toast!!!....

And I still think he is going to experience an unexpected decline in health if he is not well protected.... This will make his appeal a moot point...

And I am not sure he is going to have anyone stepping up to say, "Free this unjustly imprisoned man!"

It's sort of a catch 22... If he had not been allowed to represent himself, he would appealed stating that he was not represented in the way he wanted to be... Since he was allowed to, he will be able to appeal citing inadequate counsel...

I don't think he has a case...

And he did not make any of the hard or circumstantial evidence against him stronger, weaker, or irrelevant... He simply got to have a "Perry Mason" moment...The moment is over and he is headed for his just reward...

Re: equating people to animals...

I do agree with you in treating people "like animals". First, I think it is important to understand that John Mohammed did not behave like an animal... he behaved like an evil human being. As much as we more sophisticated and morally superior humans want to deny that one of our species could behave in such a manner, the sad fact is... sin resides in all of us. Its too easy to brush off the evil doers among us as "animals". I think its very important for all of us to realize that human beings can and do behave in the most debase manner.

Secondly, this cannot be equated with putting down an animal. This should be seen as a moral society reacting to an evil member in the sanest way possible, and that is by eliminating that member from the very society he corrupts. We have to say as a moral people, that we will not tolerate this reprehensible behaviour by another human.

Leave the animals out of it... they don't care anyway.

Not according to the DOJ. Virginia is down the list a ways - but still on it. By actual executions Tx is #1 and OK is #2, by per capita: OK is #1, MO (6/5.6 mil.) is #2(7/3.5 million) but TX 13/21.0 Mil.) and VA (4/7.2 mil.) are still on the list.

From the DOJ statistics site: "In 2002, 71 persons in 13 States were executed -- 33 in Texas; 7 in Oklahoma, 6 in Missouri; 4 each in Georgia and Virginia, 3 each in Florida, South Carolina, and Ohio; 2 each in Alabama, Mississippi, and North Carolina; and 1 each in Louisiana and California."

Good statistics. The ranking I cite is total number of executions since the death penalty was reinstated in 1976: #1 Texas with 310; #2 Virginia with 89. Your numbers deal with per capita rates and the number of executions by state in 2002. We're on the same wavelength.

I´m an opponant of the death penalty, but in these cases (more than one victim and motives like "just to kill" or "sexual satisfaction"), these f++king a$+es should FRY and burn in #ell!
