My sister-in-law (RADICAL left-winger) once told me I should apologize to a family member by saying "I'm sorry your feelings were hurt", meaning I wasn't sorry I hurt his feelings, merely sorry his feelings were hurt.

I told her I don't play games like that and I'm either sorry for something I did or not sorry at all. I didn't do anything wrong, and I wasn't apologizing for anything.

Liberals use this tactic all the time to get around admiting they did something wrong. "I'm sorry your feelings were hurt"..."I'm sorry you took it personally" doesn't imply blame on the person apologizing. Not like saying "I'm sorry I hurt your feelings" or "I'm sorry that I said something that offended you."

You may be right. I saw his sweet weird mask drop once during an interview,,,what emerged was an angry manipulative sociopath,,it was only for a second or two but very revealing. That soft way he presents himself is a mask. And seducing all those neighbors with gifts etc really is sociopathic. very good point, it is "owning your apology and the behavior that causes you to apologise",,if I offend someone inadvertantly I do say I am sorry that I didn't mean to hurt their feelings and I feel bad they are hurt. But I never say I am sorry their feeling are hurt and add things like I thought you were whacky or humorless. That reminds me alot of bullies who say they were only funnin you when they rolled you in a barrel down a hill cutting you about the head and face and then get all hurt that you don't get the joke. For some reason, a geniune apology usually makes me feel better for making it,,must be like confession.
