Get To Know Southern White Male Somebody with the Democrats needs to get a handle on the quintessential Southern white man, with whom I am well-acquainted by a lifelong coincidence of residence.
Bill Clinton almost got it but was a bit too eastern in his education. His babe magnetism made him resented by this quintessential Southern white man, who does not like to share beauty pageant winners with elitists.
Howard Dean wants to get it for electoral purposes, which is all he has been trying to say with these suddenly controversial declarations that he wants to be the Democrat who wins votes from Southern guys with Confederate flags in their trucks.

If Dean wants the quintessential Southern white mans vote, then he needs to shut up about the Rebel flag and come on down for deer and duck seasons. Then he needs to go the SEC championship game. And of course he should stay for church. He's tryin' real hard, tho....

That's the truth. His columns are run in our hometown paper (which is owned by Stephens Group) and he always manages to disgust me. I posted this to let Freepers have at him.

I have a whole family that lives in Ft Smith.
They aren't the same kind of Southern as SC, GA, AL, or MS.
I'm not sure what the difference is, but there IS a difference.
I don't know this John Brummett guy, but I know he isn't a Southern Man.
To: Lauratealeaf
This guy doesn't know Jack Daniels, and he doesn't know Jack Sh*t. I'd like to knock him into next Tuesday, but that would play into his bigoted, supercilious attitude about "Southern males." I'd like to know where this jerk went to school and absorbed his profound ignorance. But he's not worth the trouble to look up the information.
He's not even worth the time to send this comment to him in an e-mail. This man isn't worth two mouse clicks.

I'm a native Texan. Texas is considered part of the "South". I've only met maybe one or two people that even remotely fit this guys "Southern White Male" mold.

This was, I believe, an attempt at humor:
He passes out drunk during the second half of the night game on ESPN, then goes to church on Sunday because hes a deacon and wants to set a good example for his kids.
Yuk yuk. Does somebody actually pay this clown real money to write?

That's my hometown. We aren't as southern as the southern-most southerners but it might be because of our hardscrabble past. We are on the border of Oklahoma, the foothills of the Ozarks (northwest Arkansas, a long-time Republican stronghold) This part of Arkansas has always resented the controlling tenticles of Little Rock and her dirty politicians. So, we are less southern in some ways than other states at least in the northwest region but we are very patriotic. More recruits in the U.S. military come from the northwest Arkansas region than any other region in Arkansas.

Yuk yuk. Does somebody actually pay this clown real money to write?Since there seems to be an endless supply of Upper West Side liberals who lap this sh!t up so they have plenty of sneer material for the next cocktail party, the answer is probably yes. Disgusting, isn't it?

You get a flat tire on a Southern country road and walk to his door and hell spend all night helping you. He got that part right.
He operates some kind of small business, probably inherited. He doesnt keep the Rebel flag in his pickup, but does affix to it an NRA decal.
And this part, too, although the small business is most likely not inherited.
He lives for deer season, for which he keeps a doublewide in the woods and in which he stocks beer, whiskey and assorted flesh and fowl.
I know two people who are on vacation this week at their "hunt club".
He lives for duck season, for which he keeps a heated blind accessible only by boat and for which his 3-year-old black Lab, named Drake or Jake or Zeke, undergoes intensive training.
Don't know about the heated blind, but these same two guys also live for duck season.
If Dean wants the quintessential Southern white mans vote, then he needs to shut up about the Rebel flag and come on down for deer and duck seasons. Then he needs to go the SEC championship game. And of course he should stay for church.
This isn't bad advice for old Dr. Dean, actually. It would be good penance for that Yankee elitist, especially if he knows he won't get any votes out of it. The Southern thing to do would be to invite him, to show him how clueless he is, bless his heart.

Hey, that's cool!
My family moved there in 1963.
As a matter of fact, I went to school in Spiro, Ok.
We lived right across the state line.
I didn't live there very long, because I got married.
My Family are all coming down here for Thanksgiving this year, because of the situation with Richard being missing.
They will be here for week. They want to see him and make sure he's okay. He isn't, but that's a different story.
They really are different up there.
I was born in the south and raised everywhere because of the military so, nowhere was home until after I married.
I married a guy that had never been out of the state except once.
We went to Arkansas to visit my family, and he was amazed at the difference.
He thought he had landed in cowboy land. He loved it!
There is quite a difference in these last 35 years.
There isn't as much cowboy feeling now as use to be.
It's like they are a mixture of a little southern magnolia, a little Tennessee hillbilly and a lot of Texas cowpoke.
Well, that's how it looks to us anyway. :-)
