As reported in Front Page Magazine, http://frontpagemag.com/Articles/ReadArticle.asp?ID=10699, the Wells College Republicans yesterday published a study showing that Dems outnumber Republicans on the social sciences/humanities faculties by a ratio of 92%/8%.
In response, a Wells prof sent a campus-wide email calling Republicans "stupid" and calling for Republicans to be forcibly lobotomized. See press release below from the Wells Republicans.

AURORA, N.Y. (Nov. 7)--Responding to a study showing a gross imbalance of Democrats over Republicans on the faculty of Wells College, located in Aurora, NY, a Wells professor distributed a campus-wide email calling for Republicans to be forcibly lobotomized and labeling Republicans stupid.
On Thursday, November 6th, the Wells Republicans issued a press release describing the study they had conducted of the political party registrations of the members of the social sciences and humanities faculties at the college. The study revealed that members of parties of the left (Democrats, Greens, Working Families) outnumbered members of parties of the right (Republicans and Conservatives) by a ratio of 92%/8%. The online FrontPage Magazine promptly picked up the story. See article: http://frontpagemag.com/Articles/ReadArticle.asp?ID=10699
Responding to the press release and study, Wells Professor Tom Vawter sent an email to all members of the Wells community calling Republicans stupid. He closed his email with this quote: Lobotomies for Republicans: It's not just a good idea; its the Law! --Yellow Dog.
Wells Republican Chairman Kristy Lee Hochenberger, a junior from Syracuse, NY, responded to Vawters comments: We are outraged by Professor Vawters comments. Calling Republicans stupid is wrong and misguided. Calling for all Republicans to be forcibly lobotomized is frightening, said Hochenberger.
A conservative professor saying a similar thing would be gone. If a professor made an analogous comment in response to a press release from a liberal womens group, he would be out of a job by sundown. Cries of hate crime, threats of violence and misogyny would echo through the land. Feminist and liberal leaders would be flying into Aurora from around the country to support the beleaguered students and call for the punishment of the professor. The national media would focus on the story.
Added Hochenberger: In yesterdays press release, we cited the experience of a number of Wells students who are reluctant to express their Republican or conservative views, given the intimidating atmosphere that some of the liberal professors on the faculty have created. Prof. Vawter has unwittingly given a perfect illustration of the kind of intolerant, intimidating attitudes that the Republican students described in yesterdays press release.
Concluded Hochenberger: We call on the Wells College administration, and in particular Wells College President Lisa Marsh Ryerson, to condemn Prof. Vawters intemperate language and to take measures to ensure that Republicans at Wells will be free to express themselves without fear of this kind of hateful and threatening response.

Project Kaleidoscope has a website that you can refer to. Good luck figuring out exactly what they do. Interestingly, there's a link for "Leadership: Lessons Learned" that states:
"Leadership in reform requires kaleidoscopic perspective. Leaders must give attention to all facets of the undergraduate environment as well as work to ensure that all stakeholders are at the table. The challenge for leaders is to build an environment in which ideas flourish, are shared openly and freely..."
If the professor is involved in the organization, he is not following its principles.

Not enough diversity there, I think they need some protests to get them to diversify the political views of the faculty there.
And the liberal who wrote that e-mail should be fired forthwith for hate speech, and possibly prosecuted.

"
He would seize on the first over-the-top email he receives to say to the press "see, the other side does exactly the same thing."If he does receive an "over-the-top" email, it would most likely come from some liberal organization in an attempt to discredit conservatives. Liberal trolls are everywhere.

Excellent point. The Wells Republicans should be informed of this.

You might well be right. Surely conservatives should not provide any such fodder.

Why do conservative parents keep sending their children to these colleges to pay the salaries of these idiots?
To: Question_Assumptions
I think many parents and students simply don't do their homework. They see the pretty pictures in the brochures (Wells does in fact have a gorgeous campus in a pretty village right on the shores of Cayuga Lake), and buy into all the fluffy stuff that appears there about "diversity," etc.

What`s needed; Home teaching for college. A new breed of graduates who would stay in reality and would know what the hell they were doing for once when they get a job. What's needed is more kids paying their own way thru college. You get much more intolerant of the crap, when it's your own money on the line.

Exactly. And ironically, that is precisely the problem that the Wells Republicans had described in their initial press release on the political affiliation study.
They described being intimidated about voicing their conservative views in the classroom, given the hostile and dismissive reaction they get from the professors. This prof unwittingly provided the perfect illustration of their plight!

I just Emailed the Pres. of wells College with this:
Dear Pres. Ryerson,
I have just finished reading the press release from the Wells
Republicans, and I find Prof. Vawter's comments shocking, at their
worst, and offensive, to say the least.
This disgraceful episode serves to illustrate the lack of diversity on
college campuses nationwide- As a former student and employee of the
City University of New York, I speak from personal experience when I say
that the faculty of most schools these days tends to lean to the
Democratic party, and sometimes even farther left. Apparently, the
"Party of tolerance" has no tolerance for opinions other than its own,
as evidenced by your Professor's lack of respect for others.
I would be interested to know if Prof. Vawter will be sanctioned or
disciplined in any way, or will he be held up to the campus community as
a symbol of "Freedom of Expression"?
Respectfully,
To: LoneConservative
Well done, LC. I think the reasoned and civil tone will have a much more powerful impact than would a rant. Thanks!

I played a hunch and, to no surprise at all, I learned that Professor Vawter also teaches at
Cornell and lives in
Lansing, which is basically considered a suburb of Ithaca.
And, as we all know, Ithaca is the City of Evil.

Would this make them stupid enough to sign up for Professor Vawter's courses?

Good catch. Shouldn't the Chairman of Cornell's Biology Department and the President of the University be aware that they have such a person on their faculty?

I probably shouldn't point this out, but Wells was one of the places that my frat brothers and I used to go to look for attractive but stupid and sexually loose women. Think the scene in "Animal House" where they went to an all-girls school and convinced a group of the girls that Otter was the fiance of a recently deceased student in order to get dates for "Otis Day and the Nights."

Knock 'em did, gl.
To: Behind Liberal Lines
No wonder Vawter doesn't want Republicans on campus. He's avoiding competition.
