[history]
November 3, 2003 -- WASHINGTON - Democrats yesterday dumped on presidential wannabe Howard Dean, after the former Vermont governor claimed he wanted votes from "guys with Confederate flags in their pickup trucks." They said Dean is either aiming to attract votes from Americans who treasure the old racist South or that he lacks awareness of today's South.

Candidate Al Sharpton said he was "surprised and disturbed" by the Confederate flag remark. "If I said I wanted to be the candidate for people that ride around with helmets and swastikas, I would be asked to leave," he said. You have frequently, in the past. championed the goals and sentiments of the helmet-and-swastika crowd; and we are asking you to leave. The country.

"I don't want to be the candidate for guys with Confederate flags in their pickup trucks," said Rep. Richard Gephardt (Mo.). You just lost a load of votes, Gephardt.
Well, maybe you didn't have 'em in the first place.

Now once again... who here is worried about Dean winning?
To: Byron_the_Aussie
He called himself a metrosexual, so it's either a Saab or a Jag, I'm betting. I guess a Volvo is possible, too.

Dean may have just locked up the nomination with his comment. Whether it will help him in the general election I don't know!
One can have a little admiration for a man who says he wants to be the president of all the people...even the ones the cultural elitist snobs of the left don't like!
Bush had better be careful in how he approaches Dean's comments regarding the Confederates in pick-ups! The south is more labile in its politics than it appears! You insult those good ol' boys down there and Dean or Hillary will be elected for sure in 2004!

I don't want to be the candidate for guys with Confederate flags in their pickup trucks," said Rep. Richard Gephardt. You don't want to be candidate for those Americans with any sense of their past. History to the 'rats is at best something to be manipulated to their benefit. At worst, history is warped to trash all things American.

Zell Miller is right. Dean, nor the other dwarves, have any idea how to appeal to the "Southern Voters". His comments are completely from left field and will be viewed as a childish attempt to pander to the southern vote. Not a good idea by a northeastern establishment liberal.

HEY! I'm a Saab owner and love it! Best car I ever owned - a 2002 Saab 4 door hatchback. Silver. Reliable, strong, and chicks love it!
Knocking Dean is one thing! Let's leave Saab out of it! ;-)

I had a good laugh when I heard Dean's comments. I bet he has a standard line when he goes to the africanhyphenamerican community...."Some of my best friends are africanhyphenamerican".

..HEY! I'm a Saab owner and love it!......let's keep that shameful admission to ourselves, shall we? There might be Dems reading. Because you're a long-time Freeper of repute, we're going to say no more about your guilty secret. Get rid of that...thing...by the weekend, and get yourself a proper conservative's car. Cheers, By

Haha! OK, I hope my secret is safe with you.
As for me, my taste in car runs odd, limiting my options.
I will never buy a German car (grudge I have against the master race, what can I say). Japanese cars are ok, but too flimsy for my taste, less sex appeal.
American cars are mostly junky, I won't support detroit (yea I know, GM owns Saab!). That pretty much leaves me with Swedish cars and Italian cars.
Saab fits the bill I want to buy a Saab convertible to match my hardtop. Volvos are nice too, I confess. Alfa Romeo is my dream car - someday, someday!

...American cars are mostly junky, I won't support detroit...All I can hope is that these horrific public confessions somehow have a cathartic effect, and drain the poison from your motoring soul, my friend. Alfa, a grudging pass, but only a Democrat could actually love a SAAB.
I'm not quite sure what we're going to do with you, Hitman. Perhaps some other Freepers have experience with dealing with the psychosis you're sharing with us tonight, and can try a little online deprogramming. As a layman and a fellow Freeper all I can do is try to forget your blasphemy about Detroit Iron, and somehow hope you make it through these automotive delusions and come out the other side. if you do, there's a nice 396 Chevelle waiting for you. In sympathy, Byron

HEY! I'm a Saab owner and love it! Best car I ever owned - a 2002 Saab 4 door hatchback. The thing to get would be a 60's vintage Sonnet. Ideally a model 96.
