Go Green!

They should ask the refs from tonights Red Wings game to try out. They certainly don't know how to call a game...but at least there were fights. :)

You're right. The problem IS the owner. The Fords for two long have been calling all the shots. Joey was drafted because the Fords wanted another Heisman quality QB. It will be interesting to see how Mooch will be able to coach (and field) a decent team with the Fords breathing over his shoulder. One things for sure, Matt Millen's gotta go. 6-33 in three years??? Come on.

No kidding. I don't know what kind of magic Millen used on Ford to convince him he was some kind of football guru. It certainly wasn't based on any kind of experience. Millen reminds me of people who get ahead by impressing the boss with personality, not actual results.

Detroit has talent but no will. A coach can only provide so much. I say Mooch should start cutting people, beginning with Bill 'I can't catch anything' Schroeder and Az "I've lost at least five steps and my spine' Hakim.

Totally agree. What were they thinking? The only reason that Schroeder had any success in Green Bay was that Green Bay had a lot of other weapons and of course, Brett Favre to make him look better than he was.

Too bad Rogers got hurt. He showed a lot of potential for a young receiver. When does 'wait until next year get old'?

Hopefully Rogers will pan out. I think there's gonna be a lot of cuts made in the off season. So that Mooch can actually buid a team to his specs. So IF everything goes to plan, MAYBE a superbowl by 2006. Sigh.

Think about it....what's been the only constant? Coaches have come and gone. We had the best running back ever for 9 seasons and could only manage to win one playoff game. I think the Ford's don't give a crap. The Lions are a big write off for them. Just my opinion and not based in any kind of fact.

I've thought that for a long time. As a Lions fan, I'm sick of the "woe are we" Ford family. It starts at the top. Sell the damn team to someone who wants to win. George Steinbrenner is an a-hole, but at least he wants to win.

Good point. Over the last couple of years I've looked at Donovan McNabb as the NFL's version of Greg Maddux -- a great, talented competitor who can make his team a winner, but strangely unable to carry his team to the very top

That describes almost the entire Atlanta Braves organization. :-)

No list would be complete without Erik Crouch.

Then there are the great winners of years passed. Eric Hipple, Charlie Batch, and we certaintly can not forget Scott Mitchell.

Hipple was probably the toughest quarterback I ever saw play. He had absolutely no line in front of him. Almost every time went back to pass, completion or not, he'd get pulverized into the turf. He played with a flack jacket and separated ribs as a matter of necessity. His problem was, nobody ever convinced him it was a better idea to throw the ball away than to throw an interception. Lousy coaching.

Scott Mitchell. Put up big numbers, except at crunch time, interception guaranteed. Batch. Dud. Can't blame them for giving him a chance, though, he had succeeded at every previous level when no one thought he would. Harrington and McMahon should both be capable of developing into good QB's. There is something wrong if at least one of them doesn't.

Hey, at least Rogers only broke a collarbone. I figured, with the Lions' luck, he would destroy a knee before the second half. After all, we're talking about a team whose star players end up quadriplegics, or get run over by a car in their front yard while raking leaves.

Just confirms what Rush has always humbly said, "on loan from God."! He's brilliant and so much ahead of the pack.

Either way -- McNabb had about as much to do with the result of that game as I did. LOL.

That is exactly right.

Look at the bright side -- for decades the Ford family had only the Lions to play with and run into the ground. But now that they've regained control of Ford Motor Company, they've got a much bigger toy to destroy. They might get bored with the Lions.

You are obviously a racist and a homophobe for posting these facts...I know McNabb's black, but he's gay too?.....

You racist right-wing morons need to get it straight: Donovan McNabb and Steve McNair make Brett Favre look like yesterday's chopped liver. Marvin Lewis (losing record and all) and Tony (Choker) Dungy are the greatest head coaches in the NFL; and Tom Jackson, Deion Sanders and Michael Irvin are the greatest football analysts.

Ah, but a Steinbrenner would fail in the NFL. Remember that the current Yankees dynasty was built in the years that George was banned from running team by the league. Before that the team had spent fortunes but hadn't won since the late 70's. And those two teams won because George was the first to spend big on free agency. Once the rest of the league got a handle on the changed situation, the Yankees didn't win another championship until after George was exiled. But neither their 70's champs nor the current dynasty would be possible in the NFL because of the hard salary cap.

Plus, TV revenue in the NFL is national and shared equally among the teams. TV revenue in baseball is mostly local and it's here that the Yankees make so much cash that they could spend more than everyone else and still break even with zero attendance.

Maybe. Steinbrenner is a meddler that maybe does more harm than good. But, at least he wants to win. Contrast that with the Ford family, the shoulder-shrugging, indifferent, oh well we lost again, woe are we, let's buy one headline player to put butts in the seats, we've been owners for decades but admit we don't have a clue about football or what it takes to win, Ford family.

Well, the Fords hired Darryl Rogers and Wayne Fontes....

I hope you weren't making fun of the Big Buck! Looking back, I loved the Fontes years, because it was clear he loved the players, and they loved him back. They always came on like a freight train in the second half of the season.

(From the late, lamented "BringBackWayne.com" website, which might make a comeback....)

Top Ten Reasons to Bring Back Coach Fontes

  1. Winningest Coach in Lions' History
  2. Won 2 of Lions' 3 All-Time Central Division Titles
  3. Led Lions to Only Playoff Win in the Last 45 Years
  4. He Really Seemed to Care
  5. Coached 3 Lion's Teams to 10+ Win Seasons
  6. 1991 NFL Coach of the Year (12 - 4, Baby!)
  7. Only Lions' Coach to Go Undefeated at Home in Last 40 Years
  8. Top Career Winning Percentage in Last 30 Years (Outside of Coach Mo)
  9. He Got 'Em Fired Up!
  10. He Laughed, He Cried, He Danced...He Bled Honolulu Blue...

Oh, come on. You have to be kidding. Wayne Fontes, burying his head in his hands, I'm depressed, what do I do now that it's the fourth quarter.

Yeah, his players loved him, because he didn't make them work. It was a foregone conclusion that they would crap out in the fourth quarter, due to lack of conditioning.

His playbook was high school. My two younger brothers played youth league tackle football, and they would sit in front of the TV and scream, "NO! NO! DON'T DO THAT!. The other team's defense knew what they were gonna do, they telegraphed it.

Then, there was the year they started off on a hot streak, and their "Blue Rush" theme song became "Another One Bites the Dust". Did Wayne tell them to shut the hell up, and play football? No, he played along with it. Arrogant Idiots, they incited extreme anger in their opponents, and they got creamed in the second half of the season. No playoffs. Then, after he was gone, Wayne the Wuss sued the team for physical damage he incurred while he was the coach. Crap, crap, crap. Good riddance to Wayne Fontes.

They have the best coach right now they've had since at least the 70's. Too bad they still have crap ownership.

If you're bringing up the James "Spiderman" Allen's cover of "Another One Bites the Dust", that was in 1980, placing it in the Monte Clark era. (I know the year well, from playing football in the 8th grade, and it was every Michigan kid's football theme song that year.)

I'm not saying Wayne Fontes was a great coach...I'm saying Wayne Fontes was a great Lions coach....

In McNabb's defense, he has been playing with an injured thumb (and a very mediocre coprs of receivers) all season long.

Pfffffffft. Steve McNair is the best QB in the NFL and he plays injured all the time. And not just a paper cut like poor, pampered McNabb.

Why was Rush wrong when McNabb and his agent used his race to try and get him more money?

And how about the fact Pittsburg was afraid to get rid of Kordell Stewart when he threatened to accuse them of racism if they did?

And ESPN pretends to think Rush was the only person bringing up race in professional sports?

Ridiculous.
