Well, the Fords hired Darryl Rogers and Wayne Fontes....

I hope you weren't making fun of the Big Buck! Looking back, I loved the Fontes years, because it was clear he loved the players, and they loved him back. They always came on like a freight train in the second half of the season.

(From the late, lamented "BringBackWayne.com" website, which might make a comeback....)

Top Ten Reasons to Bring Back Coach Fontes

  1. Winningest Coach in Lions' History
  2. Won 2 of Lions' 3 All-Time Central Division Titles
  3. Led Lions to Only Playoff Win in the Last 45 Years
  4. He Really Seemed to Care
  5. Coached 3 Lion's Teams to 10+ Win Seasons
  6. 1991 NFL Coach of the Year (12 - 4, Baby!)
  7. Only Lions' Coach to Go Undefeated at Home in Last 40 Years
  8. Top Career Winning Percentage in Last 30 Years (Outside of Coach Mo)
  9. He Got 'Em Fired Up!
  10. He Laughed, He Cried, He Danced...He Bled Honolulu Blue...

Oh, come on. You have to be kidding. Wayne Fontes, burying his head in his hands, I'm depressed, what do I do now that it's the fourth quarter.

Yeah, his players loved him, because he didn't make them work. It was a foregone conclusion that they would crap out in the fourth quarter, due to lack of conditioning.

His playbook was high school. My two younger brothers played youth league tackle football, and they would sit in front of the TV and scream, "NO! NO! DON'T DO THAT!. The other team's defense knew what they were gonna do, they telegraphed it.

Then, there was the year they started off on a hot streak, and their "Blue Rush" theme song became "Another One Bites the Dust". Did Wayne tell them to shut the hell up, and play football? No, he played along with it. Arrogant Idiots, they incited extreme anger in their opponents, and they got creamed in the second half of the season. No playoffs. Then, after he was gone, Wayne the Wuss sued the team for physical damage he incurred while he was the coach. Crap, crap, crap. Good riddance to Wayne Fontes.

They have the best coach right now they've had since at least the 70's. Too bad they still have crap ownership.
