UPDATE FROM TERRI'S VIGIL SITE ON LOCATION... by floriduh voter and drk4the1: TERRI IS NOT BEING RE-HYDRATED AT MORTON PLANT HOSPITAL IN CLEARWATER, FL. The Governor's Office is under the impression and reporting that the procedure started at 7:07 pm. While it's being reported to the family attorney that she is not going to receive anything. A telephonic hearing is scheduled to begin at 8:30 pm est with Judge Douglas Baird re: Michael Schiavo's suit against Gov. Bush and his executive order of today. Additionally, Michael S. is disputing his removal as Terri's legal guardian. Anything helpful appreciated. Contact floriduh voter or the drk screen name. We are outside fighting the mosquitoes. Latest update....Delegate Bob Marshall from DC called the hospital and read them the riot act - literally. When he threatened to withold federal funding they tried to tell him they did not believe he was who he said he was - he told them in no uncertain terms "you will know tomorrow who I am!"...It is now 9:30 - and the IV has been inserted! This guy is awesome!!!!! In Christ always, Debi<Good news...Need major show of strength from the administration of FL and any other interested Feds! These folks have had 13 years of arrogance and things going their way...they have to know they are not in control no more!

I think we can all calm down now ---- Per latest news reports, Terri IS receiving IV fluids, (and there isn't a damned thing her good-for-nothing HINO can do about it!!!!!)

Can anyone help me out here? This sounds familiar as the name of the hospital that refused Terri proper care when she had the first UTI. And, I'm thinking I remember some rumor that this was where MS was formerly employed. I don't want to start any fear-mongering, and would appreciate it if someone who knows would tell me I'm imagining this.

There are assistive communication devices and therapies that have restored communication to many people in Terri's condition. She need only be able to puff some air in a tube or move her eyes--something they have documented her doing in a controlled fashion--in order to communicate with these devices. If she can still read and write, she could communicate in sentences; otherwise, she could at least communicate basic ideas like hunger, pain, yes, no.

Michael Schiavo has forbidden their use with Terri. Tell you something?

They are defying the Governor's order!!!! Hospice and Morton Plant Hospital both refused to hydrate her claiming the law passed today is unconstitutional and therefore, they are afraid of being sued. Michael Schiavo's attorney is threatening to sue any doctor who provides feeding or care to her - this is unbelievable and surreal!!!! Terri is still without any food or water and is under armed guard! Totally insane - totally evil!!

P.S Meanwhile I filed a formal complaint today with Ashchroft - it went to several Catholic senators as well - DC is listening...the delegate helping me there in DC is calling Morton Plant Hospital for us right now - someone needs to pull off a political miracle!!

TONIGHT'S FOCUS HAS CHANGED: We were going to bring you Nightline's next installment in the ABC week-long health care series "Critical Condition: Healthcare in America", but there's a breaking news medical story that we feel deserves our attention tonight.

Terri Schiavo is a 39 year-old woman who has been in a vegetative state for 13 years. A heart attack left her comatose in 1990. Her parents say she is responsive and they feel that she should continue to live, assisted by a feeding tube. Her husband told her doctors to discontinue the feeding tube last Wednesday and a Florida court backed his request. He says that his wife told him she wanted to die. That's the main debate. Tonight, Governor Jeb Bush signed a bill passed by the Florida legislature ordering the feeding tube reinserted. Many people are scatching their heads tonight. Why does the legislature have the right to do that? The case had already been through the Florida court system and will probably end up in the United States Supreme Court. Others feel that anyone who is alive — in a vegetative state or not — has the right to live. We'll have a background piece by Jeffrey Kaufman, he's covering the story for ABC News in Tallahassee. Ted will talk to several guests about the various aspects of the case: medical, ethical and legal. We hope you'll join us.
