Hollywood Avoids the War on Terror
PABAAH: Patriotic Americans Boycotting Anti-American Hollywood ^
Posted on 10/20/2003 12:56:33 PM PDT by jonalvy44
According to Daniel Pipes: Jonathan V. Last notes in today's Wall Street Journal that the war on terror is not the subject of a single U.S. feature film already produced or in the works. When asked why should be, head of the Motion Picture Association of America, Jack Valenti, replies with questions of his own: "Who would you have as the enemy if you made a picture about terrorism? You'd probably have Muslims, would you not? If you did, I think there would be backlash from the decent, hard-working, law-abiding Muslim community in this country."

Ten targets. Man, we got lucky.
Not much but chance standing between how we are now and complete and utter US meltdown.

Oh, I try to be a bit more optimistic than that. However, rest assured without the power of talk radio and such wonderful sites as FR on Internet, I would not doubt that liberals were well on the path to destroy this country. I hope that the arrival of truth is not too late to save us.

In all truthfulness, I had second thoughts about even making this comment.
In contrast to the East Coast {NY/NJ area mosques and the Blind Sheik, Florida's Sami al Arian, Michigan's large Islamic population, and those sleeper-clowns they picked up in upper NY state} LA's large Iranian community is largely made up of Westernized Iranians who (for the most part) would rather see the Mullahs in Quom 'go down'.
The only thing I can remember even vaguely being a threat to the West Coast, other than those idiots who were recently sentenced in Portland (?) for trying to enter Afghanistan during our liberation, was that 'Millenium-Bomber' they caught at the Seattle/Vancouver checkpoint with explosives in his trunk who was headed to LA to supposedly bomb the LAX airport.
Still, I feel they are quite complacent out there since the 'action' has all been centered quite aways away from them.

Oh, they can still MAKE war movies, in fact they're usually pretty good at it.
Blackhawk Down and
We Were Soldiers... are examples of some of the finest. But, as you said, they simply refuse to apply that skill to the war we are currently in.
Oh, but I've no doubt that they'll refer to it in the future, when they need a crazed or homeless vet to use as a villain or bad guy, or to bash a conservative over the head with.

There's no free speech in Hollywood. Although a few heretics occasionally go against the Party Line by making Unorthodox Comments, you will never see a movie that runs counter to the ideology of the left.
They are as tightly controlled as movie making was under Mao and Stalin.

But, as you said, they simply refuse to apply that skill to the war we are currently in. They really annoyed me by converting Tom Clancy's mohammedan fanatics into neo-Nazi fanatics in the film version of Sum of all Fears. I did not see it, and I do not own the DVD. I did read the book. More than once. Not his best effort, but neither his worst.

Probably because Hollywood couldn't create one yet.
They'd create a backlash from Muslims to fit their own political goals and ends.
*snort*
I do so hate hollyweird.

Thanks for the pings.
It's almost funny how Hollywood bends over backwards in an attempt to 'not offend the sensibilities of muslims', and yet they'll offend the sensibilities of US soldiers and citizens at almost every chance they get.

You're pretty much right on target, with the exception of the 4th of July shooting at LAX's El Al counter.
I'm hoping things don't change, but they could well do so. I am convinced, ever since we found a diary written in Arabic along a well-travelled smuggler's trail here in Cochise County, AZ, that the terrorists are entering the U.S. along our porous southern border.
Couple that with their identification of Hollywood with the Decadence of the West, and you have a motive for mayhem in Malibu!

Hollywood PC Alert |
Hollywood Avoids the War on Terror According to Daniel Pipes: Jonathan V. If you did, I think there would be backlash from the decent, hard-working, law-abiding Muslim community in this country." Last recalls that the last big-budget movie to deal with terrorism was The Sum of All Fears, based on a Tom Clancy novel. In the novel itself, interestingly, Arab terrorists set off a nuclear bomb at football's Super Bowl. But pressure from militant Islamic organizations caused the identity of the movie's terrorists to be changed in early 2001 to neo-Nazis. ("I hope you will be reassured," wrote Director Phil Alden Robinson back then to the Council on American-Islamic Relations, "that I have no intention of promoting negative images of Muslims or Arabs, and I wish you the best in your continuing efforts to combat discrimination.") And now? "If anything, the PC pressure has been upped since the war on terror began," observes Last. He believes that such pre-9/11 movies with Middle Eastern villains as G.I. Jane, The Siege and True Lies no longer could be made. "The only organized groups you can make as the enemy," he quotes Valenti saying, with a laugh, "would be the U.S. government, the police, the FBI and corporate America." But this crushing bout of political correctness is temporary, reassures an unnamed screenwriter. "In 50 years when this war is over, there will be movies about the war on terror and they will show that the bad guys were the bad guys and that the Islamofascists did want to take over the world." Which makes me wonder: If it takes that long for popular culture to acknowledge who the enemy is, can the war be won in less time? |

That's all the more reason for saving your 8-10 dollars for something more constructive. Like giving to church, charities, or investments. I haven't been to a movie in nearly a year. If I've gone it's only been to those films in which the actors didn't shoot their mouths off about President Bush or the war. Believe me, that's far and few in between.
...Long Cut, from a Navy Vet, a HOO-YAH for your honorable service to our country, and a Double Ping for your great post. Couldn't agree with you more.
