Prevent Florida State Senator James King From Blocking Terr's Law
October 20, 2003 | nickcarraway

Posted on 10/20/2003 2:04:32 AM PDT by nickcarraway

Florida Governor Jeb Bush is finally pursuing a course to save the life of Terri Schiavo. Governor Bush is calling a special session of the Florida legislatureon Monday to pass legislation that he worked on with Florida Speaker of the House Johnnie Byrd. ``Terri's Bill'' would immediately suspend all dehydration and starvation deaths in the state.

LifeNews.com, however is reporting that one man is the greatest obstacle to this happening, Florida Senate President Jim King, the man who controls the state Senate's agenda.

It's obviously important that we contact all state representatives, Senators, and other parties, but it is absolutely critical we put the pressure on Senator King!

Senator James E. "Jim" King, Jr.is the state Senator from Florida's district 8, which covers parts of Duval, Flagler, Nassau, St. Johns, and Volusia counties. Especially if you live in his district, please call him and tell him that he needs to listen to Governor Bush and Speaker Byrd and put this on the agenda tomorrow. Tell him you think this bill needs to be passed ASAP. And call any relatives or friends you have who live in that district to call (or email) him. Right now, he may be the one person with the most power to stop this bill. Let's let him know it needs to get passed. He needs some serious Freeping!

You can read more about this on these threads:

LIVE FROM TERRI'S VIGIL - EMERGENCY - LEGISLATIVE SESSION - CALL FLORIDA REPS NOW!!

PLEASE HELP TERRI - A BILL IS BEING INTRODUCED TOMORROW

"Thanks, FR, but she's looking for the connection between attorney/client/hospice board member ... conflict of interest"

Good. I think she is working a very good angle. These people need to be exposed.

The letters assert that the facts of the case clearly establish probable cause to initiate a formal criminal investigation, yada yada yada...

An absolutely ridiculous assertion. The whole process has been under the scrutiny of multple courts. Negligence, cruelty, etc.... has already been dismissed as being present in Terri's care by the courts allowing the existing level of care to proceed.

I was hoping I was wrong about Jeb and he really did care.

Oh, he "cares" alright. Otherwise he wouldn't be stalling, dragging his heels, lying through his teeth, leading people on, etc.

He really "cares" about this situation.

You do realize that "care" is a value-neutral term, don't you?

Well, heavenly days, are we so naive that we think ol' Jeb is going to trash a new industry in right-to-die - all that money in hospices. Yes, we are.

Not the end of my sarcasm.

Then you haven't been following this case. The husband has a credibility problem. Doctors said there was evidence she may have been abused. It's on the original reports. This woman is brain disabled, not brain dead.

I have had doctors tell me my father was basically brain dead, when he was still talking to the family.

I have seen brain dead with my mother. I didn't need to have the doctors tell me my mother was no longer there. I could see her glazed over eyes. You don't forget something like that.

Terri's eyes are clear. She doesn't drool. She responds to commands. She smiles. You want me to believe the courts. I would rather believe my own eyes.

Her family loves her. They do not want her to suffer. They are more than willing to take care of her, but her husband wants her dead.

We can't have ol' Jebbie go crossing another Republican, now can we. I mean, "The Eleventh Commandment" and all that. It's just not DONE at the Country Club. These are GENTLEMEN, and they're not going to cross one another.

Well, maybe a "heavy" like King will step on a coward like Bushie, but he'll do it with a smile and a polite tone of voice. And Bushie won't talk back to him, because Bushie is a gentleman too, as well as a coward, not to mention King weighing about 250 lbs more than Bushie.

And anyway, a King trumps a Bush. This is so surreal it's right out of Monty Python.

This King went a looking for a shrubbery, and he's got himself one. Not MUCH of one, but it'll do, evidently.

Take a look at the Royal King's "contribution" to the current law.

Warning: it will make you nauseus.

From http://www.worldnetdaily.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=35161

Volunteers with the Terri Schindler-Schiavo Foundation have learned that Senate President Jim King is opposed to the bill and has said he would not present it to the upper house for a vote.

According to his website, King is a member of the Florida Hospice Board of Directors and the Florida Task Force on Government-Financed Health Care, and is a recipient of the Hospice Hall of Fame Award.

Last year he wrote an amendment to the Advanced Directives Law expanding the definition of "proxy."

"The way it reads now, a total and complete stranger that doesn't even know the patient, can come into the institution and say it's in the patient's best interest to die – that was his contribution to the law," said Pat Anderson, attorney for Terri's parents, Robert and Mary Schindler.

A Republican from the Jacksonville area, King served in the Florida House of Representatives from 1986 through 1999, and was elected to the state Senate in March 1999.

Wasn't there an article yesterday about the session beginning at 1:45? Can we still hope they merely broke for lunch and they'll be back? No, I don't suppose so, but wanted to hold out a glimmer of hope. JEB shares equally in this with the other three evil doers.

I guess that Florida's reputation for being God's little waiting room is well deserved as there must be a Hospice on every street corner. It sounds like the death industry is worth billions to the state coffers otherwise the politicians wouldn't be so closely tied to it. This is really scary and needs it own investigation. The Feds need to step in, declare the whole situation a conflict of interest, and start from square one. They are the ultimate funders of what is going on in Florida.

James King has been remiss on women's issues before and wrath doesn't seem to bother him.>>>>>>>>>>

As I understand it Pegita is needing documentation that links Michael Schiavos' attorney, Jim King the Senator, and Judge Greer all to the Sunrise Hospice home!! conflict of interest. Right Pegita?

You are wrong. It has not been under the scrutiny of the courts. Only one, Judge Greer and he refused to look at evidence.

The other courts it was sent up to for appeal denied to even hear it. The appellate court for the 6th Circuit, the Florida Supreme Court refused to hear the appeals. It's not like they heard them and ruled against the family. IF they did, it would have gone to the U.S. Supreme Court. I don't know if it got to the U.S. Supreme Court. The lower court has to make a ruling, for it to get to the U.S. Supreme Court. By the time this happens the poor woman will be gone.
