We need NOW to look forward to winning and victory and shake off the feeling of losing and defeat.
Of course we do....
Go Marlins! Obey the Billygoat!!!!!!!
Be Seeing You,
Chris
p.s.: Cubs fans on WLS going bonkers over the fan who interfered. Meanwhile, here in Florida, the least deserving front-running phony fans in all of baseball had a gift handed to them last night...

If it had been a Cub's batter I bet interference is called.
Just because of the home field not any hatred of the cub.

I guess if things didn't go down this way then it just wouldn't be Chicago.

"The kid reached out over the railing. The ball was heading right into the glove."
When I went to sleep (had to), the Cubs were winning 3-0..... I'm speechless.

"....try more fiber."
I knew someone would say that---of course, it turns out to be DFU. I failed to mention that when I went to the bathroom, I read nearly an entire chapter of STUD---Adventures in Breeding by Kevin Conley, a great book on thoroughbred breeding. The game seemed to turn very quickly, though, and it started with that idiotic incident with the fans interfering with Alou as he was trying to catch that ball just barely into the stands.

Wha' hoppen?
I'm stunned. Still in shock. Unbelievable.
It's the Curse of the Billy Goat, I tell ya!
But tonight we REVERSE THE CURSE!!! Knock on Wood. ))
And I'm going to the game. Got tickets (which, up until the 8th inning last night, I was sure I wasn't going to get to use). Driving up about an hour from now, from here in St. Louis back to my old hometown.
BTW, I'm an ordained Lutheran minister, you know. Maybe I should perform an exorcism of Wrigley Field. I'll look for a Rite of Degoatification.
Look for me on TV tonight. I'll be the guy keeping his hands in the stands on foul balls.
GO CUBS!

Damn, it looks like DU the morning after Bush got elected.
To: Petronski
No, it's true. This town is filled with the phoniest front-runners in sports. If the Marlins hadn't gone anywhere, they'd be lucky to get ten guys to show up in the stands.
Be Seeing You,
Chris

My own personal favorite from the Cubbies board (and there are some JEWELS):
"*****I hope they win but Dusty is still Dusty. There is a reason San Fran didn't want him back!!**** Dusty will allow Wood to pitch until his right arm falls off, then encourage him to pitch left-handed. Farnsy will get up and spend the first ten minutes adjusting his cap. The fans will blame some kid who "interfered" with a ball Alou wasn't going to catch anyway. A bunch of slap-hitters and guys with one testicle will drink champagne at Clark & Addison. You guys can have the next 95 years, I'm out. I will not watch tomorrow. Even if they do win, I will not watch the WS.

I can't help wondering if 'the fan' has game 7 tickets. Outisde of our fine military, that guy would be the bravest guy in America if he had the guts to go back to Wrigley, especially if he sits in the same seat. Considering there was no interference called, security technically has no basis for barring him from the game, right?

I think Dusty Baker was the one who F'd up the Cubbies chances by leaving Prior in too long.

Momentum can be a very powerful thing. I followed the New England Patriots Super Bowl season a couple years back. They started the season 1-3 and lost their starting quarterback (Drew Bledsoe) during a humilating loss to the Jets. The Patriots looked dead in the water for the season.
But in a game against Indianopolis, with an inexperienced Tom Brady as starting QB, linebacker Bryan Cox leveled one of the Colt players with a devastating hit. It literally changed the tempo of the game right then and there and the Pats steamrollered to an easy victory and never looked back.
Tom Brady gets too much credit for that Super Bowl season (though he did play well). It was the Patriots defense along with some clutch field goals by Adam Vinateri that put them there. That one hit by Bryan Cox changed the outcome of the entire season.
True to form, the Pats released Cox the very next year and they haven't been back to the playoffs since!

blaming this fan for the loss is kinda like blaming Monica Lewinsky for Clinton's impeachment.
The reality is that the fan was having fun doing it and it was all a big game to the players, but the rest of the world took matters far more seriously.

I think that those who don't 'get' momentum tend to view individual plays in sports as independent events, like repeatedly flipping a coin. You know, past performance does not influence future events. But there are two key differences in baseball. One, it's not a timed sport. Extra outs give the other team more batters. And two, certain types of plays can rattle a team, while rallying the opponent. If that pop fly had gone in a little further into the seats, Alou doesn't get upset, Prior doesn't feel robbed, and the Marlins don't feel they caught a break. Would that DEFINITELY have led to the Marlins scoring fewer than eight runs. No, of course not. Nobody can say. But, if Alou catches that ball, now there are two outs and the infielders don't have to play at double-play depth, nor rush their throws.
So momentum may not be an actual physical thing. It's an idea. And ideas are powerful things.

yes, but the USC Trojans don't have billy goat problems.
:)
They have that horse that tramples anything in it's path and a dog that did the same.
One horse and one tirebiting dog can chase any goats away.
