Bush 1 knew he was toast against Clinton going into the final stretch. Dole never had any leverage to defeat Clinton. Briefly people thought W was toast against Kerry via the exit polling that was incorrect. The Oct Surprise did hurt W going into the election with Gore. McCain was done in by the economic crisis. Mitt had that 47% video leaked that clubbed him with, was easily painted as a evil rich guy. Looks like the endgame is the Covid stuff to club Trump with? We shall see if that’s the difference maker. The drip of Hunter stuff, no idea if it plays really, but I do think Biden is not an inspiring candidate and the laptop will remind people that Biden is a career politician who has worked for himself.

Can you remember a republican president opposed and obstructed by his own party throughout his presidency?

There have only been 4 times in th r last 120 years where a sitting president seeking a second term did not win. And 3 of them were due purely to recession/depression.

Only 1 president who won his second term did so with fewer votes than his original election that I know of, that was Obama.

Odds have always been in Trumps favor from the start, everyone and everything telling you otherwise are either ignorant of history or flat out liars... just like in 16 odds were that Democrats would lose. It is the large exception that a party holds the White House more than 2 terms..

Do you have negatives about this election...

Do you think they would put a lying old man in who will turn it over to the rabid socialist. And our country goes to hell like Barry wanted ..

Is that going thru your mind?

Bush Sr.’s abandonment of his “no new taxes” pledge is what enabled Perot to gain traction. Perot got the protest vote because of a lack of trust in HWB. A year prior to 1992 the election President Bush had 90% approval rating as a result of the Gulf War. He squandered all of that goodwill.

And yet he ran unopposed for his renomination, and records voted for him anyway in the Republican Primaries.

Kennedy-Nixon

Everyone who listened to the debate thought Nixon won hands down. Vote fraud won the day for Kennedy.

Wrong. I believe that if Perot had not been in Bush just might have won. Clinton did not even have a plurality.

It wasn’t simply Ross Perot splitting the vote. Bush 41 ran a lazy reelection campaign as if he were taking a victory lap or campaigning was beneath him. He didn’t exert himself until after Labor Day.

George H W was in terrible shape on reelection, did not control the conversation, and had Ross Perot splitting the vote. That was NOT an upset.

Dewey losing to Truman was an upset.

While he lost his reelection bid, it was hardly unexpected, for 2 reasons. Number one his statement: read my lips, no new taxes, on his election for his first term. He then turned around and allowed the taxes to be increased rather than veto them. His second blunder was showing complete amazement of the checkout process at a store, signaling to people that he was out-of-touch with what real American’s experiences were on a daily basis.

Clinton did not have a majority even on reelection.

“McCain was done in by the economic crisis.”

McCain lost because he campaigned harder for 0bama than for himself.
