Dewey was upset in 1948.
Reagan and W seemed mostly relaxed. GH was a little tightly wound but I wouldn't set he was upset.
Trump doesn't seem very upset.
Well, President Trump wasn’t very happy when he had found out that the Obama/Biden Admin had been spying on his campaign
When you combine GHWB’s poor campaign combined with Ross Perot getting nearly 20% of the vote, you’re right, he never had a chance.
Bush 41 had an approval rating around 90% after the first Gulf War. Thats why Mario Cuomo didnt enter the race or, heaven help us, we would have been dealing with the Cuomo boys for nearly thirty years by this point.
He was the favorite.
“McCain was done in by the economic crisis”
I prefer to think of it as McCain/Palin.
Read my lips sunk Bush 41. He had lying lips.
And none of the other Bushes learned a darn thing from their dad’s experience. Even after we gave Dubya a chance to redeem the Bush name, he failed miserably, even after garnering sympathy for 911 and winning reelection. His second term was the final nail in the coffin of the political Bush dynastic machine. George might be the exception, but no one in their right mind will take the chance to find out.
Ford - Carter.
“””But lets be honest: 41 didnt have a chance against Clinton.”””””””””
Couple of things
That election was when I noticed the media taking off the gloves. They stopped pretending to be impartial.
Clinton won with 42% of the vote. So 58 % didn’t want him.
Perot stuck his goofy head in and gave Clinton a win.
I’d highly recommend you vote early if possible.
1. Expect some longer lines due to social distancing. They won’t actually be longer, but will appear so and may discourage others from voting.
2. Possible poll fear on election day or civil unrest. Going early will make your vote in the bag already
3. With the glut of people on election day, you have more opportunity for trouble with the machines and no backup date to come and vote.
4. Liberals expect that the early vote will be majority theirs, when we have a stronger showing early they will maybe stay away from the polls and our side will be encouraged to vote.
5. If you get hurt or other issues arise, your vote will already be cast. Don’t delay.
Dewey was the challenger not the incumbent.
I’ve never waited more than a few minutes to vote, what’s all the fuss about?
Bush 41 had Republicans so upset for violating his “No new taxes” pledge that many stayed home.
Disagree about ‘04. The media was calling it a dead-heat/ tossup. Hell, early in the evening on election night, John Kerry was receiving (premature) “Congratulations, Mr President” calls.
Clinton beating Bush 1992. Should have won a 2nd term, but he said “read my lips, no new taxes” then proceeded to raise taxes. Base didn’t vote for him, and instead voted for the ‘outsider’ Ross Perot (”that great sucking sound you hear” are the jobs that will be going to Mexico under NAFTA).
Agree about Ross Perot in 1992. Bush 41 would have been reelected if not for him. Perot deftly latched onto to one big issue: trade (i.e., NAFTA). Perot was sort of a proto-Trump in that regard. He correctly recognized that bad trade deals were destroying U.S. manufacturing. He played that up, and Bush’s globalism seemed clueless by comparison.
Everybody gets angry from time to time ;-)
